Nvidia’s partnership with MediaTek is bringing G-SYNC technology into monitor scaler hardware, removing the need for a separate dedicated G-SYNC module in qualifying designs. The first commercial products arrived on January 7, 2026, as 27-inch, 1440p, 360Hz IPS monitors featuring G-SYNC Pulsar.
That could make advanced G-SYNC displays easier for more manufacturers to build and potentially reduce production costs. It does not mean every MediaTek monitor supports G-SYNC, however, and the first products remain premium esports-focused displays rather than cheap gaming monitors.
What Nvidia’s MediaTek partnership changes
Nvidia and MediaTek announced their display-scaler partnership at Gamescom on August 20, 2024. The arrangement integrates Nvidia’s G-SYNC technology into qualifying MediaTek scaler silicon instead of requiring monitor makers to install a separate dedicated G-SYNC module.
Nvidia says the approach can simplify monitor production, reduce design complexity and make feature-rich G-SYNC displays more accessible to manufacturers and consumers. Those are potential manufacturing benefits, not a guarantee that every resulting monitor will have a low retail price.

The partnership became a consumer product in January 2026. Nvidia announced that the first displays built in collaboration with MediaTek would be available from Acer, AOC, ASUS and MSI beginning January 7, 2026. Nvidia’s 2024 announcement explains the original partnership, while its January 2026 launch announcement covers the commercial models.
What a monitor scaler does
A monitor scaler is the display’s processing hardware. It receives video signals from a PC or console and handles tasks such as input processing, resolution conversion, refresh-rate control, adaptive sync, overdrive, HDR processing and the on-screen display.
In an older native G-SYNC design, a monitor could contain its normal scaler plus a separate Nvidia G-SYNC module. In the new arrangement, qualifying MediaTek scaler hardware incorporates the relevant G-SYNC implementation directly.

The scaler must be designed, licensed and validated for Nvidia’s implementation, so buyers should look for an explicit G-SYNC or G-SYNC Pulsar designation on the exact model.
What G-SYNC Pulsar adds
The first MediaTek-based monitors combine ordinary G-SYNC variable refresh rate with G-SYNC Pulsar. Pulsar adds variable-frequency backlight strobing, which flashes the backlight in coordination with the display’s refresh behavior to reduce perceived persistence blur.

Nvidia markets Pulsar as delivering four times the effective motion clarity and, on supported displays, more than 1,000Hz of effective motion clarity. Those are Nvidia’s technology claims. “More than 1,000Hz” does not mean the panel physically refreshes at 1,000Hz: a 360Hz monitor remains a 360Hz monitor. The figure describes the perceived-motion benefit Nvidia associates with backlight strobing.
Backlight strobing is also not universally perfect. Depending on frame rate and refresh rate, it can introduce brightness changes, crosstalk or double images. Nvidia’s firmware notes specifically document fixes for sharp double images below 90 frames per second, showing why operating range and firmware tuning matter.
The first commercial G-SYNC Pulsar monitors
Nvidia’s current firmware documentation identifies four first-generation G-SYNC Pulsar models:

Nvidia’s 2024 announcement mentioned an ASUS ROG Swift PG27AQNR, but the later commercial launch and current firmware page identify the shipping ASUS model as the ROG Strix Pulsar XG27AQNGV. Buyers should rely on the current manufacturer and Nvidia support pages when checking availability or firmware.
Nvidia describes the initial generation as 27-inch, 2560×1440, 360Hz IPS displays with HDR support. Individual specifications still vary. Check the manufacturer’s page for brightness, color coverage, ports, stand adjustment, warranty, response-time behavior and firmware features.

Ambient Adaptive Technology
The first Pulsar monitors also include Nvidia’s G-SYNC Ambient Adaptive Technology. A built-in light sensor can automatically adjust brightness and/or color temperature for changing room conditions.

This is separate from G-SYNC variable refresh rate and separate from the MediaTek cost and scaler integration. It should be treated as a comfort and visibility feature, not as part of Pulsar’s motion-processing system.
Native G-SYNC, G-SYNC Pulsar and G-SYNC Compatible
The labels are important because they do not describe the same feature set.

A G-SYNC Compatible monitor can be an excellent choice, but certification alone does not imply Pulsar, variable-frequency strobing, identical adaptive-overdrive behavior or the same low-refresh characteristics as a native G-SYNC display.
Nvidia’s G-SYNC monitor directory describes its validation process and lists supported displays. Use the exact product listing rather than relying on a retailer’s generic “G-SYNC” filter.

What hardware do Pulsar buyers need?
At least for the MSI MPG 272QRF X36, Pulsar requires:
- A compatible Nvidia GeForce RTX GPU.
- A DisplayPort connection.
- Pulsar enabled in the monitor’s settings.
Do not assume every input supports every G-SYNC feature. HDMI behavior, supported refresh rates and GPU requirements are model-specific. Before buying, check the manufacturer’s specifications for the exact input, cable, GPU generation and driver requirements.

Nvidia’s firmware page currently lists version 1.1.8 for the four named Pulsar monitors. The update reduces input lag for 240Hz Pulsar/ULMB2 operation, improves 120Hz ULMB2 quality, fixes an issue where G-SYNC and Pulsar could disappear after monitor sleep, and includes additional bug fixes.
Earlier updates also improved Pulsar operation between 100Hz and 180Hz, removed sharp double images below 90 frames per second, corrected the below-90-FPS in-monitor frame-rate display and fixed a 60Hz strobing mode.

- Confirm that the display is one of Nvidia’s supported Pulsar models.
- Connect the monitor to the computer with a Micro-B USB data cable.
- Keep the display, USB and power cables connected and ensure stable power.
- Use a supported browser: Chrome 61 or later, Edge 79 or later, or Opera 48 or later.
- Open the official Nvidia G-SYNC firmware updater and follow its instructions.
The updater supports Windows, macOS, Linux, Android and ChromeOS. Do not disconnect the USB or power cable, close the updater or interrupt the process. Nvidia warns that an interruption can cause malfunction, loss of functionality or a permanently unusable monitor.

Are these monitors actually cheaper?
Not necessarily. Removing a separate dedicated module may lower manufacturing complexity and give more monitor brands access to G-SYNC technology, but retail price also depends on the panel, refresh rate, HDR implementation, electronics, stand, warranty, regional distribution and retailer promotions.
The first products are premium 1440p 360Hz esports monitors. For a dated price signal, Acer’s U.S. store listed the Predator XB273U F5 at $649.99 regular price and $579.99 promotional price, with stock shown when observed on August 16, 2026. Prices and availability change, and that U.S. listing says nothing about availability in other regions.
The defensible conclusion is that MediaTek integration may broaden the supply of G-SYNC displays over time. It is not proof that G-SYNC monitors have become budget products.
Who should buy a G-SYNC Pulsar monitor?
Choose Pulsar if you:
- Own a compatible GeForce RTX GPU and can use DisplayPort.
- Play competitive games at frame rates high enough to exploit 360Hz.
- Value motion clarity more than OLED-level contrast and black levels.
- Want VRR and backlight strobing in the same display mode.
- Are comfortable checking firmware and tuning strobing for your games.
Choose G-SYNC Compatible instead if you:
- Want the widest choice of sizes, resolutions, panel types and prices.
- Need 4K, ultrawide, OLED, lower-refresh or productivity-oriented options.
- Use an AMD GPU, console or mixed-device setup.
- Do not need backlight strobing.
Choose OLED if you:
- Prioritize contrast, black levels and HDR impact.
- Accept the possibility of burn-in and the panel-care requirements.
- Prefer image quality over the specific motion goals of a 360Hz IPS esports monitor.
Consider a dedicated-module G-SYNC monitor if you:
Find a well-reviewed current model with suitable low-refresh behavior, variable overdrive and a good price. The MediaTek implementation does not automatically outperform older dedicated-module designs. The complete monitor—panel, firmware, inputs and tuning—determines the experience.
Buying checklist
- Verify that the exact model says G-SYNC Pulsar, not only G-SYNC Compatible.
- Confirm GPU, DisplayPort and refresh-rate requirements.
- Check whether your games can sustain frame rates that make 360Hz useful.
- Look for independent testing of input lag, brightness, overshoot, crosstalk, HDR and strobing behavior.
- Check regional stock, warranty and support before ordering.
- Confirm that the monitor’s USB service port and Micro-B data cable are accessible if firmware updates are required.
- Expect to choose between maximum VRR flexibility and the motion benefits of backlight strobing in some games or frame-rate ranges.
The bottom line
Nvidia’s MediaTek partnership is a meaningful platform change: qualifying MediaTek scalers can integrate G-SYNC functionality without a separate dedicated G-SYNC module, making it easier for more manufacturers to build advanced displays.
The first commercial result is the G-SYNC Pulsar generation launched in January 2026. These monitors are promising for high-frame-rate competitive gaming, but they are still premium 1440p 360Hz IPS products. The partnership points toward broader availability and potentially lower manufacturing costs—not an immediate guarantee of inexpensive G-SYNC monitors.
