Yes—but only at the right price and in the right market. The Nothing Phone (2a) Plus remains a stylish, smooth and long-lasting midrange phone, with a 120Hz AMOLED display, 5,000mAh battery, 50W charging, clean software and 256GB of storage. Its main improvements over the regular Phone (2a) are a faster processor, better selfie camera and faster charging—not a larger screen or dramatically better rear cameras.
In 2026, however, its age matters. The US model is currently listed as sold out, and US carrier compatibility is not guaranteed. Outside the US, it can still be a good discounted purchase. In the US, buy only if you have verified your carrier support, a reliable return policy and a price well below its original $399 launch MSRP.

The Phone (2a) Plus was good value at launch, but a 2026 buying decision must account for current stock, remaining software support and newer competitors. It is not automatically a bargain simply because its specifications remain respectable.
Price and availability
Nothing launched the Phone (2a) Plus on July 31, 2024, with a US starting price of $399 for 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage, according to Tom’s Guide. That is the launch MSRP, not a guaranteed current price.

Nothing’s US product page currently lists the phone as sold out. Third-party listings can also be risky: launch-era coverage recorded listings approaching $799, which makes no sense for an older midrange phone unless its condition, warranty and scarcity genuinely justify the premium.
Before buying, compare the actual price with newer Nothing and CMF phones. A discounted Phone (2a) Plus can make sense; an expensive imported or used unit usually does not.
What does “Plus” mean?
The Plus is not a larger Phone (2a). Both phones use a 6.7-inch display and have broadly similar rear-camera hardware, battery capacity and software experience. The Plus mainly adds:
- A faster MediaTek Dimensity 7350 Pro processor.
- A 50MP selfie camera instead of the standard model’s 32MP camera.
- 50W wired charging instead of 45W.
- A 12GB RAM and 256GB storage configuration.
- Slightly different design detailing.
The upgrade is worthwhile when the price gap is small or when you specifically want the faster chip, better selfie hardware or 256GB storage. Otherwise, the regular Phone (2a) delivers much of the same experience.
Design and Glyph interface
The Phone (2a) Plus is one of the most visually distinctive phones in its price class. Its transparent or semi-transparent rear styling, metallic detailing and Glyph lighting around the camera area make it immediately recognisable. Flat sides and fairly even display bezels add to its modern appearance.
That visual premium does not mean premium construction. The rear is plastic, attracts fingerprints and does not feel like a glass-and-metal flagship. At 161.7 × 76.3 × 8.5mm and 190g, it is also a large phone rather than a compact option.
The Glyph system is more than decoration if you use the phone face down. It can identify notifications, show timers, act as a torch and volume indicator, and support Glyph Progress features. Its usefulness depends on whether you actually place the phone screen-down; otherwise, it is mostly a design differentiator.

Display
The phone has a 6.7-inch flexible AMOLED panel with a 1084 × 2412 resolution, adaptive refresh rate up to 120Hz, Gorilla Glass 5 and support for up to 1.07 billion colors. It delivers the qualities that matter most in daily use: smooth scrolling, strong contrast, vibrant colors and wide viewing angles.
It is a good display for video, reading and games, although the resolution is adequate rather than exceptionally sharp and the panel is not LTPO. Nothing claims a 1,300-nit peak brightness, while Tom’s Guide measured 959 nits under its test conditions. Those figures may use different brightness modes and testing methods, so the practical conclusion is that outdoor visibility is good, but it should not automatically be described as flagship-level.
Anyone sensitive to low-brightness flicker or PWM should consult independent testing for the phone’s current software version before buying.
Performance and gaming
The Dimensity 7350 Pro is a capable midrange chip built on a 4nm process, with two Cortex-A715 performance cores reaching 3.0GHz, six Cortex-A510 efficiency cores up to 2.0GHz and a Mali-G610 MC4 GPU.
In Tom’s Guide testing, it scored 1,154 single-core and 2,650 multi-core in Geekbench 6, 29.96 frames per second in 3DMark Wild Life Unlimited and completed an Adobe Premiere Rush export in 1 minute 32 seconds. The regular Phone (2a) scored 1,103 and 2,586 in Geekbench, and 25.46fps in the graphics test.
That is a measurable improvement, particularly for graphics, but not a transformation. Apps open quickly, multitasking is comfortable and ordinary games run well with sensible settings. It is not a flagship gaming phone, and sustained performance, heat and frame rates will vary with the game, brightness, network and software version.
Be careful with Nothing’s “20GB RAM” description. The phone has 12GB of physical RAM; the remaining advertised capacity comes from storage-based RAM expansion. Storage is 256GB, with no indication in the supplied specifications of expandable storage.
Battery life and charging
The 5,000mAh battery is one of the Plus’s strongest features. Tom’s Guide recorded 14 hours and 8 minutes in its battery-drain test, while a 15-minute charge reached 41% and 30 minutes reached 76%.
Nothing claims up to two days of use and says the battery should retain more than 90% capacity after 1,000 charging cycles. Those are manufacturer claims, not universal results. Endurance depends heavily on 5G reception, Wi-Fi use, brightness, refresh rate, gaming, camera use, dual-SIM operation and background apps.
Charging is rated at 50W, but the phone does not appear to include a charger in the listed box contents. You need a compatible charger to reach the advertised rate, and not every USB-C charger will deliver 50W to this phone.
Cameras
The rear system consists of a 50MP main camera with optical and electronic stabilisation and a 50MP, 114-degree ultrawide camera. The front camera is a 50MP unit with an f/2.2 aperture and 4K video recording at 30fps.

The important distinction is that the most obvious camera upgrade over the standard Phone (2a) is on the front. The rear cameras remain competent rather than exceptional.
Daylight and HDR
The main camera can produce good daylight images with useful detail and attractive color. The ultrawide is helpful for landscapes, interiors and groups, although it will not match the main camera’s quality. HDR, skin tones and color consistency can vary by scene and processing mode.
Low light and zoom
Night photography is not class-leading. Digital zoom is also a weakness because there is no telephoto camera, and distant subjects quickly lose detail. Buyers who prioritise night shots, portraits or zoom should look at a Pixel A-series phone or another camera-focused alternative.
Selfies and video
The 50MP selfie camera is useful for detailed selfies, video calls and creators who want front-camera 4K video. It does not automatically make the phone a flagship camera phone, however. Rear and front video are limited to 4K at 30fps, and moving subjects can still expose the limits of midrange processing.

Software and updates
The phone launched with Nothing OS 2.6 based on Android 14. Nothing’s product information lists Nothing OS 3.0 based on Android 15, and the company promises three Android updates plus four years of security patches.
Nothing OS is one of the phone’s highlights. Its monochrome, dot-matrix visual style is distinctive, animations are smooth, widgets are useful and the software is relatively restrained compared with many budget Android interfaces. Some users will dislike the monochrome aesthetic, and features can change with future updates.
The more important 2026 question is how much of the promised support period remains. The update clock does not restart when you buy the phone. Check the latest software status before purchase through Settings → System → System update, and compare the remaining support with newer models.

US carrier compatibility: the major warning
For US buyers, compatibility is the phone’s biggest problem. The Phone (2a) Plus was offered through Nothing’s developer or beta-style US programme rather than as a conventional universally supported carrier phone. Nothing’s current US Beta Program says participation does not guarantee full compatibility with all US carriers.
Coverage reported by Android Authority found T-Mobile to be the most viable major carrier, while some 5G bands were unsupported, AT&T support was limited and Verizon compatibility was particularly poor.
Do not interpret “the SIM works” as full compatibility. A phone may obtain partial service while lacking dependable 5G, VoLTE, Wi-Fi calling, emergency calling or carrier-specific features.
US buyer checklist
- Confirm the exact model and region, not just the phone name.
- Check your carrier’s LTE and 5G bands.
- Verify VoLTE, Wi-Fi calling and emergency-calling support.
- Confirm whether you need eSIM or a physical SIM.
- Buy only from a seller with a clear return period.
- Test calls, texts, mobile data and 5G immediately after activation.
If you need guaranteed AT&T or Verizon support, or cannot tolerate activation risk, skip this phone.

Choose the Plus when the price difference is modest, you want 256GB storage or you value better performance and selfies. Choose the regular Phone (2a) when it is meaningfully cheaper; much of the everyday experience is the same.
Alternatives in 2026
Google Pixel A-series
A current Pixel A-series phone is generally the better choice for point-and-shoot photography, night images, image processing and long-term software support. The Nothing offers faster charging, a larger battery, a 120Hz display and a more unusual design. Tom’s Guide found the Phone (2a) Plus lasted longer than the Pixel 8a in its battery test, while the Pixel was stronger in benchmark performance and camera reputation.
OnePlus midrange phones
OnePlus alternatives may provide faster charging, higher performance, larger batteries and stronger gaming results. The Nothing counters with cleaner, more distinctive software and the Glyph interface. Tom’s Guide measured the OnePlus 12R ahead of the Nothing in battery life, charging speed and graphics performance.
Newer Nothing and CMF phones
Newer Nothing phones and the CMF Phone 2 Pro deserve close attention because they offer newer hardware and more remaining support. Nothing says the CMF Phone 2 Pro will receive six years of updates from initial availability. The trade-off is that the CMF model does not provide the Phone (2a) Plus’s Glyph experience.
Compare current prices, official warranty coverage, carrier support, camera hardware, storage and remaining updates—not just launch specifications.
Who should buy the Nothing Phone (2a) Plus?
- Buy it if you are outside the US, find it at a substantial discount, want a distinctive design, value clean software and need strong battery life, fast charging and 256GB storage.
- Buy it cautiously if you are in the US and have independently verified your carrier, purchased from a seller with a return policy and paid well below launch price.
- Skip it if camera quality, night photography, zoom, wireless charging, flagship gaming or maximum remaining software support is your priority.
- Skip it if the seller is charging close to $399—or more—for an old, imported or unsupported unit.
Final verdict
The Nothing Phone (2a) Plus remains an appealing midrange phone because its strengths are still relevant: distinctive design, a smooth 120Hz AMOLED display, excellent battery endurance, fast wired charging, clean software and generous storage. The Plus upgrades are real, but modest; it is a faster and more selfie-friendly Phone (2a), not a completely different class of device.
Outside the US, it is worth considering when discounted and backed by a proper regional warranty. In the US, the sold-out status and uncertain carrier compatibility make it a specialist purchase rather than a safe mainstream recommendation. Buy it only after checking the network, return policy and actual price. Otherwise, a newer Nothing, CMF, Pixel or OnePlus phone is likely the wiser 2026 choice.
