Nothing confirmed that it would announce the Phone (4a) and Phone (4a) Pro on March 5, 2026—one day after Apple opened iPhone 17e preorders. The wording matters: March 5 was the Nothing announcement date, not the general retail release date for both phones.
The announcement covered the global and India launch event. Nothing’s later sales schedule separated the two models, with the standard Phone (4a) becoming available first and the Phone (4a) Pro following later.

Apple’s official iPhone 17e release confirms its March 2 announcement, March 4 preorder date, March 11 availability date and U.S. starting price of $599.
What Nothing actually confirmed
Nothing confirmed a March 5 announcement for the Phone (4a) series, comprising both the Phone (4a) and Phone (4a) Pro. Reporting from Android Central placed the event at 10:30 GMT, or 5:30 a.m. ET, and described it as a global and India announcement.

At the time of the confirmation, Nothing had not released the full specifications. Reports mentioned a possible Snapdragon 7s Gen 4 processor and Android 16, but those details were pre-launch reporting rather than confirmed information and should not be treated as the basis for the announcement itself.
The practical distinction is simple:
- March 5: product announcement.
- March 5–12: Phone (4a) preorder period under Nothing’s cited terms.
- March 13: Phone (4a) availability began.
- March 13–26: Phone (4a) Pro preorder period.
- March 27: Phone (4a) Pro delivery or pickup began under the cited schedule.
Was Nothing deliberately responding to Apple?
The timing and presentation made the comparison hard to miss. Nothing CEO Carl Pei shared promotional artwork that visually referenced Apple’s event invite, replacing the event information with Nothing branding and the March 5 date. Coverage described the move as Nothing “crashing” or following Apple’s event.
That supports calling the timing a marketing signal, but it does not prove that Nothing intended a direct product-to-product challenge. The two companies sell phones in different ecosystems and use different strategies. Nothing’s event followed Apple’s preorder date by one day; it was not evidence that the Phone (4a) models were equivalent competitors to the iPhone 17e in every respect.

The standard Phone (4a) and Phone (4a) Pro followed separate sales tracks and should not be treated as interchangeable. Nothing’s official product material positions the Pro around a three-camera system, a Sony sensor, a 3.5x optical periscope zoom and an advertised maximum of up to 140x ultra zoom.

The 140x figure is a manufacturer claim and includes digital zoom. It should not be interpreted as 140x optical magnification. Nothing also markets the Pro with Nothing OS and Essential AI tools.
Nothing’s official U.S. product page lists the Phone (4a) Pro at $499 for the 8GB/128GB configuration. Official UK terms listed the following launch prices:

How the iPhone 17e differed
Apple positioned the iPhone 17e as a more affordable member of the iPhone 17 family. Its announced features included:

The iPhone 17e started at $599 in the U.S. with 256GB of storage. Its strongest advantages are not only hardware specifications but also access to Apple’s wider platform, including iMessage, FaceTime, Apple Watch integration, AirPods features and Apple’s established support and retail network.
The Phone (4a) Pro was instead aimed at buyers who prefer Android and Nothing’s design-led software experience, camera flexibility and lower U.S. starting price. These are ecosystem alternatives rather than identical phones competing on the same specification sheet.
What buyers should check
- Country availability: A global announcement did not mean identical retail availability in every country.
- Model and storage: Compare the same storage configuration before comparing prices.
- Retailer and carrier support: Nothing’s U.S. footprint and sales arrangements differed from Apple’s, and availability varied between the standard and Pro models.
- Network compatibility: Check supported bands and carrier certification for the exact regional model.
- Warranty and returns: Confirm whether the seller provides local warranty coverage.
- Delivery date: The Phone (4a) and Phone (4a) Pro were not available on the same schedule.
For current regional stock and pricing, use Nothing’s official Phone (4a) Pro page and Apple’s official iPhone store rather than assuming that launch prices or promotions still apply.

The event happened, but March 5 was not the general retail release date for both Nothing phones. The Apple-referencing promotion made the timing look deliberately competitive, but the buying decision ultimately depends more on ecosystem, regional availability, camera priorities, storage and price than on the one-day launch gap.
