NordVPN is the better choice for most people. It is a full VPN service with apps for computers and phones, advanced options, and publicly documented independent assessments of its no-logs practices. The product most likely meant by “Now VPN” is a free, ad-supported mobile app; the public evidence available for it does not establish comparable privacy assurance or platform coverage.
This comparison refers to Now VPN at now-vpn.com, listed in Apple’s App Store as Now VPN – Best VPN Proxy and associated with World Creation Technology Limited. It is not the separate service at vpn.now. Check the developer and app identity before installing a similarly named VPN.

Short version: choose NordVPN for a regular, multi-device VPN or when privacy assurance and support matter. Consider Now VPN only for casual mobile use where free access outweighs ads and the gaps in public documentation. “Not verified” does not mean a feature is absent or that the app is unsafe; it means the available evidence does not support treating it as equivalent.

The name is ambiguous. The app compared here is the one at Apple’s App Store listing, associated with World Creation Technology Limited and linked to now-vpn.com. The separate site vpn.now advertises another product; its claims should not be attributed to this app.

The App Store listing advertises a free tier with ads, unlimited time, data and bandwidth, one-tap connection and automatic server selection. It also advertises premium features and a trial of up to seven days, with in-app purchases. “Unlimited” is a claim about the advertised allowance, not evidence of unlimited speed, server choice, privacy, or support. The current premium price should be checked in the relevant app store because it was not reliably established here.
App-store availability also does not prove that a service offers full VPN clients for computers, routers or TVs. The listing confirms Apple mobile availability; equivalent support elsewhere, a device limit and the underlying protocol options were not established in the available material.
Privacy: compare evidence, not slogans
NordVPN
NordVPN says it does not log VPN activity and describes repeated external assessments of its no-logs practices in its trust center and no-logs information. This is stronger public assurance than a marketing statement alone: an external assessment can examine practices within its scope at a particular time.
It is not an absolute guarantee. An assessment does not prove how a provider will behave indefinitely, and “no activity logs” does not necessarily mean that a company processes no account, payment, support, diagnostic or marketing information. Readers should distinguish VPN browsing records from information needed to run an account or provide a service.

Now VPN
Now VPN’s privacy policy says it does not collect certain personal information, such as names, addresses or telephone numbers, unless voluntarily provided for particular interactions, settings or subscription purposes. That statement does not, by itself, answer every question about connection timestamps, IP addresses, device identifiers, diagnostics, analytics or advertising data. The available evidence does not establish a comparable independent no-logs assessment or a full metadata-retention picture.
Apple’s App Store privacy labels are developer-provided disclosures; Apple says it does not independently verify them. Treat those labels as useful disclosures, not an audit. The practical conclusion is not that Now VPN is proven unsafe; it is that its privacy claims are harder to verify publicly than NordVPN’s.
Neither service’s claims should be read as a promise of complete anonymity. A VPN encrypts traffic between a device and the VPN server and can mask the device’s IP address from ordinary websites. It does not hide activity from accounts you sign into, prevent cookies or browser fingerprinting, protect against every malware or phishing attack, or erase data you submit to websites.
Features and security controls
NordVPN documents NordLynx and OpenVPN protocol options, split tunneling and specialist server choices such as Double VPN, Onion Over VPN and obfuscated servers. Its feature set also includes threat-protection functions, with some additional protection and bundled tools dependent on plan and platform. Now VPN’s listing uses broad language about encryption, privacy and automatic server selection, but does not provide enough technical detail to establish a comparable protocol selection, kill-switch behavior, DNS or IPv6 leak handling, split tunneling, or specialist-server options. Do not infer feature parity from generic “secure” or “fastest server” claims. Likewise, a server-selection feature is not an independent speed test.

Platforms and device coverage
NordVPN documents apps for Windows, macOS, Linux, Android and iOS, as well as browser extensions and TV- and router-related use cases. It allows up to 10 simultaneous connections on one account, according to its pricing page. This is useful if you want to protect several personal devices, though a router setup and an app installed on each device are different configurations.
For Now VPN, the App Store listing confirms availability for Apple mobile devices. The evidence here does not establish a full desktop client, router support, TV app or simultaneous-device policy. If you need one VPN across a laptop and phone—or want to protect devices that cannot run the app—verify the exact platform support before relying on it.

Check the live official pricing page for the offer and renewal terms available to you, and set a reminder if you do not want an annual renewal. The highest tiers bundle tools some VPN users may not need; compare the included features rather than choosing by tier name.
Now VPN’s free, ad-supported option may cost nothing upfront, but free access is not enough to assess value or privacy. Ads, premium conversion, server availability, support and data practices all matter. Its current premium price was not reliably visible in the available authoritative material, so compare the live in-app purchase terms before starting a trial. Check when the trial ends, what it converts to, and how cancellation works through the store where you subscribed.

- For a free, occasional mobile connection: Now VPN may be worth considering if you accept ads and do not need extensive platform support or independently assessed privacy practices. Avoid using an app whose data practices you cannot accept for highly sensitive activity.
- For regular public Wi-Fi, travel or everyday privacy: NordVPN is the more defensible choice on the evidence available, thanks to its broader documented platform coverage, controls and external no-logs assessments. It still does not make you anonymous or protect an infected device.
- For multiple devices or a computer: NordVPN has the clearer fit, with up to 10 simultaneous connections and a documented wider ecosystem. Verify Now VPN’s support directly if you are considering it for anything beyond an Apple mobile device.
- For streaming: NordVPN has a more developed platform and server offering, but access to a particular streaming service changes and cannot be guaranteed. No comparable reliable streaming evidence was established for Now VPN. Check the service’s terms and test your own combination of country, account and device.
- For sensitive privacy needs or censorship circumvention: Prefer a provider with transparent technical documentation and stronger independent evidence. NordVPN documents obfuscated and specialty server options, but their availability can vary by network and platform. Speed, streaming and troubleshooting
There is no fair head-to-head speed result here, so do not treat “fastest server” as proof that one app is faster. VPN performance depends on distance, server load, protocol, device, ISP and time of day. NordVPN appears in current third-party testing, but those results apply to the tester’s locations and methods, not every user; no comparable independent Now VPN performance test was established. If speed matters, compare both on the same connection and at similar times.
- Record download speed, upload speed and latency without a VPN.
- Connect to a nearby server and repeat; then test a distant server.

Streaming access can change as services block shared VPN addresses. Do not assume any provider will reliably unblock Netflix, BBC iPlayer, NOW or another service in every country. For NordVPN, try another server or protocol if a site fails; temporarily changing a blocking feature may help diagnose a conflict, but do not leave protection disabled without understanding the trade-off. Banking, workplace and other services may reject VPN addresses; disconnect temporarily, use a suitable split-tunnel setting where available, or ask the service provider.

If a free mobile connection is slow or fails, first complete any Wi-Fi captive-portal sign-in, then reconnect and try a nearby location. Check whether battery-saving settings are stopping the app. If it repeatedly fails to reconnect or blocks ordinary traffic, stop relying on it and remove it rather than assuming the connection remains protected.
Bottom line
NordVPN wins this comparison for most readers because it is a broader, better-documented VPN platform with more verifiable privacy assurance, wider device coverage and clearer subscription and refund terms. Its main drawback is cost: promotional rates can renew at a substantially higher price, so check the total first-term charge and renewal before subscribing.
Now VPN is a possible no-subscription option for low-stakes mobile use if ads and less public documentation are acceptable. The evidence does not justify calling it unsafe, but it also does not justify treating it as an equivalent to NordVPN. If privacy is the reason you want a VPN, prioritize transparency and independent assurance over a free label.
