Nike error code 98D2586B is commonly reported when an order fails at checkout, but Nike does not publicly define this exact code as one specific problem. It does not, by itself, prove that your card was declined or that your account was blocked. First check whether an order or payment authorization already exists. Then verify the item, address, payment and promotion before trying Nike’s official reset: sign out, clear browser data, wait 30–45 minutes, sign back in and retry once.
What does Nike error 98D2586B mean?
Customers commonly report seeing 98D2586B while submitting an order on Nike.com or in the Nike App, sometimes with a message such as “Sorry, we are unable to process your order.” Nike’s official order-error guidance covers checkout failures generally; it does not publicly map this code to a single cause.

Nike says an order can fail because shipping, billing or payment details are incorrect or incomplete; Nike cannot ship to the entered address; an item sells out before checkout finishes; or a promo code does not apply to an item. A stale session, browser or app issue, payment authorization problem, or temporary service issue may also be worth investigating, but those are possibilities—not confirmed definitions of this code.

First check whether the order went through
Before clicking Place Order again, check your Nike order history and the email address associated with your account, including spam or junk folders. Look at your card, bank, PayPal or gift-card activity for a pending or completed payment. A pending authorization does not confirm that Nike accepted the order.

If you see a payment authorization but no order confirmation, avoid more attempts. Note the time and amount, then ask Nike to verify the transaction before retrying. This reduces the risk of duplicate orders or authorizations.

Nike’s published website troubleshooting sequence is:
- Sign out of Nike.com and the Nike App on your devices.
- Clear your browser’s cache and cookies. This can sign you out of other websites too.
- Wait 30–45 minutes.
- Sign back in and try the order again once.
Use your browser’s privacy or settings menu to clear cookies and cached data; the exact labels differ by browser. If the first clean attempt fails, avoid rapid repeated submissions and move on to the checks below.

Quick fix for the Nike App
Nike’s app troubleshooting steps include force-closing the app, clearing relevant data, resetting your Nike password, trying cellular data and testing another device.
- Fully close or force-quit the Nike App, then reopen it.
- On iPhone, Nike directs users to clear Safari data at Settings > Apps > Safari > Clear History and Website Data. Menu names can vary with iOS versions.
- On Android, clear the Nike App cache. A typical route is Settings > Apps (or Applications) > Nike App > Storage > Clear cache; labels vary by phone maker and Android version.
- If the error continues, reset your Nike password, sign in again, and try once. To reset it, select Sign In, enter the email on your Nike Member profile, choose Forgot Password? and follow the email instructions. Nike’s password requirements are at least eight characters, including one uppercase letter, one lowercase letter and one number.
- Turn off Wi-Fi and test over cellular data. If possible, also try another device.
Keeping the Nike App and your device software current, restarting the phone, or reinstalling the app can help rule out a local app problem. Treat those as general troubleshooting, not a guaranteed fix for code 98D2586B.
Check the order details before another attempt
Product and stock
Nike says an item can sell out after it is added to your bag. Confirm that the exact color and size are still available; remove the item and add it again if needed. If only one limited or high-demand product fails, inventory or product-specific checkout is more plausible than a general account problem. Waiting cannot guarantee that sold-out stock will return.

Shipping and billing addresses
Check spelling and completeness, including street, apartment or unit, city, state and ZIP or postal code. Make sure the billing address matches what your card issuer has on file, and check that the shipping destination belongs to the Nike country or regional site you are using.

Payment
Recheck the payment details and billing postal code. If using a digital wallet, confirm that its billing information is current. Check with your bank or payment provider to see whether a transaction was declined or paused, and whether the method is enabled for online purchases. Payment methods and regional availability vary.

If the bank shows no authorization, the failure may have occurred before the payment reached the issuer. If you see repeated authorizations, stop and contact Nike rather than cycling through cards.
Promo codes and gift cards
Nike identifies an ineligible promotion as a possible order problem. Remove the promo code and test once without it; check its exclusions and regional terms. For a gift card, verify the number, PIN, balance and country or region compatibility. Do not keep retrying if you think a balance or payment authorization may have changed.
Run one controlled test
If the official reset and detail checks do not help, change one variable at a time so you can tell what matters. Use one in-stock item, one valid payment method and one shipping address for a single clean attempt.

You can also try a different browser or a private window, and temporarily disable extensions that affect cookies, scripts or checkout pages. As a clean-environment test, temporarily turn off a VPN or proxy if you use one. These are diagnostic suggestions, not evidence that Nike blocks every extension, VPN or network.
Do not create a string of new accounts, repeatedly change billing identities or use checkout bots. These actions can complicate account and order issues; user speculation about account, email, device or IP blocks is not an official explanation for this code.
If sign-in or verification is the obstacle
If you cannot sign in after a password reset, Nike’s sign-in and password help suggests checking browser data, trying another browser, restarting your device and updating the browser or operating system. If you are waiting for a verification code, check spam, junk and trash folders and request a new code. Nike says SMS codes can take up to five minutes; its mobile verification guidance says VoIP and landline numbers are not supported for mobile verification. These steps address access problems and do not establish the cause of 98D2586B.

Contact Nike if the error persists across the app and website, on more than one device or network, or if a payment authorization appears without a confirmed order. Use the official Nike Help page to find support options for your country or region.
Share the code and exact error text, the time of the attempt, whether you used Nike.com or the app, your device and operating-system details, the product and size, the payment type, and whether an authorization is pending.
