Short answer: Windows Calculator did not receive a major new calculation mode in 2026. The latest documented release, version 11.2605.9.0, focuses on a rare square-root accuracy correction, High Contrast readability, right-to-left language layout, and upgrade reliability. Graphing, Programmer, Date Calculation, converters, history, memory, and Keep on top are established features—not 2026 launches.
Availability depends on your Windows release, Calculator app version, Microsoft Store rollout, language, and (for the June release) Insider channel. Microsoft’s current feature guide is at Use the Calculator in Windows.
What is genuinely new?
Microsoft’s release notes identify Calculator version 11.2605.9.0 as rolling out to Experimental channels on June 12, 2026, and to Beta and Release Preview on June 24, 2026. The notes do not describe a new consumer-facing mode:

Graphing and the Windows 11 Calculator redesign were highlighted by Microsoft in 2021, not introduced in 2026. The open-source project also documents the long-standing standard, scientific, programmer, date, conversion, history, memory, and precision capabilities: Microsoft Calculator on GitHub.
How to open Calculator modes
Open Calculator, select the navigation (hamburger) menu, then choose a mode or converter. Exact labels can vary slightly by language and app version.

Using Graphing mode
- Choose Graphing from the navigation menu.
- Enter an equation in the equation field.
- Add additional equations when comparing curves.
- Adjust the visible graph area if the curve or intersection is off-screen.
Graphing is useful for visual exploration and checking approximate intercepts. A pixel-level crossing is not proof of an exact root; use algebra or a computer algebra system when precision matters. Discontinuities and values outside the visible range can also make a correct equation appear to produce an unexpected graph.

- Select Programmer.
- Choose the required base, such as hexadecimal, decimal, octal, or binary.
- Enter the value and switch bases to inspect its equivalent representation.
- Use the available bitwise and programming operations as needed.
This is convenient for quick conversions and simple bitwise work, but it is not a debugger or compiler. Check word size, signed versus unsigned interpretation, and leading zeros when interpreting hexadecimal values. Exact integer behavior in your programming language may differ.

Using Date Calculation
Date Calculation has two distinct jobs:
- Difference between dates: Measures the time separating two dates.
- Add or subtract: Finds a date a specified number of years, months, or days before or after a starting date.
Results can differ from manual calculations because inclusive and exclusive counting are different. Calendar-month arithmetic is not the same as adding a fixed number of days, and leap years matter. Calculator does not automatically apply business-day rules, holidays, payroll conventions, or time-zone calculations unless those rules are explicitly represented.
Unit and currency conversion
- Open the navigation menu and select a converter.
- Enter the value.
- Choose the source and destination units.
For currency, choose Currency, enter an amount, and select both currencies. Microsoft says rates update automatically when the app has an internet connection. That does not make the result a guaranteed live interbank, bank, card, broker, or remittance quote. Fees, spreads, rate timestamps, and offline or stale data can materially change the amount. Verify any transaction, tax, invoice, or accounting figure with the provider handling the payment.

History, memory, and Keep on top
History lets you review previous calculations. The memory controls are MC (clear), MR (recall), M+ (add), and M− (subtract).
To keep Calculator visible:
- Switch to Standard mode.
- Select Keep on top, or press
Alt + Up Arrow. - Use the same control, or press
Alt + Down Arrow, to disable it.
How to get the update
- Open Microsoft Store.
- Open Library and choose Get updates (wording may vary).
- Relaunch Calculator after updating.
- Check the Store page or Windows app settings for the installed version.
Do not join Windows Insider solely for a small Calculator fix unless you accept prerelease software and its stability risks. A missing change may reflect a staged rollout, an older Windows release, language availability, or confusion between an existing feature and a new release-note item.

If Calculator will not update or launch
- Confirm your Windows and Calculator versions.
- Run Microsoft Store updates, then close and reopen Calculator.
- In Windows app settings, use Repair; use Reset if Repair does not help (Reset can remove app data).
- Reinstall Calculator from Microsoft Store if necessary.
- For a reproducible defect, report it in Feedback Hub under Apps → Calculator.
The June release’s upgrade fix addresses one class of stale-setting failures, not every possible launch problem.

Windows Calculator remains a capable, convenient built-in tool. The accurate 2026 description is evolutionary: a small but useful reliability, accessibility, localization, and numerical-correctness update layered onto an established set of modes.
