Netflix removed Black Mirror: Bandersnatch from its streaming service on May 12, 2025. It was not literally deleted from existence, but its original interactive playback experience was withdrawn. A later report said Netflix planned to bring it back through Netflix Games, although that relaunch was not officially confirmed in the report.
Whether you can watch it now depends on your country, subscription plan, device and the version Netflix offers there.

Was Bandersnatch really removed on May 12?
Yes—but the correct year is 2025. Removal notices reportedly appeared on Netflix title pages before Monday, May 12, 2025. Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt: Kimmy vs. the Reverend, another Netflix interactive special, was removed at the same time.
The phrase “Netflix is deleting Bandersnatch” is headline shorthand. Netflix removed access from its platform; there is no evidence that it destroyed the film, erased its underlying assets or made every copy impossible to recover.

Netflix normally describes this kind of change as a title “leaving Netflix” or becoming unavailable. The service says titles can leave when licensing agreements expire or when renewing them no longer makes financial or strategic sense. Its decisions may consider rights availability, regional popularity and licensing cost. Netflix explains the process in its Help Center.
What exactly disappeared?
Bandersnatch premiered in December 2018 as an interactive film. It follows Stefan Butler, a young programmer adapting a dark fantasy novel into a video game in 1984. Viewers make choices that change the story, leading to multiple paths and endings. Netflix’s official title page describes the film as having “multiple endings.”
The May 2025 change primarily ended access through Netflix’s original interactive streaming system. That system included the branching video, choice prompts, decision tracking and the infrastructure needed to deliver different scenes based on a viewer’s selections.

That is different from deleting a conventional video file. A linear recording of one route would not preserve the complete interactive experience, and a title page remaining searchable would not prove that the film can still be played.

Why did Netflix remove it?
Netflix’s official explanation for titles leaving the service is general rather than specific to Bandersnatch. In contemporaneous coverage, Netflix was also reported to be moving away from its older interactive-special technology as it focused on other technological priorities, including games and mobile or cloud-based experiences.
One report quoted Netflix spokesperson Chrissy Kelleher as saying the technology had served its purpose but had become limiting as the company pursued other efforts. That explanation comes from secondary reporting, not a clearly located Netflix announcement devoted specifically to the removal of Bandersnatch.
So it is safest to separate the claims:
- Officially established: Netflix titles can leave because of rights, popularity, cost and renewal decisions.
- Reported explanation: Netflix was phasing out the original interactive-special system while emphasizing other technology and games.
- Not established: That licensing alone was definitively the reason Bandersnatch left in every country.
Why was the timing so surprising?
The removal came shortly after Black Mirror Season 7 premiered on April 10, 2025. The season’s episode “Plaything” contains substantial connections to the Bandersnatch universe, including references to Tuckersoft, the fictional video-game company, and Colin Ritman, the character played by Will Poulter in Bandersnatch.

Netflix also released Thronglets, a mobile game connected to “Plaything” and described as being set in the same universe as Bandersnatch. The timing was therefore awkward and surprising, but there is no evidence that Netflix accidentally forgot the removal date or delayed Season 7 because of it.

Was the removal permanent?
At the time, it appeared that Bandersnatch was permanently leaving the original Netflix interactive player. That conclusion became less certain in July 2025, when What’s on Netflix reported that Bandersnatch and Kimmy vs. the Reverend were expected to return through the Netflix Games section.
The reported plan involved emulated versions of the interactive experiences rather than the old native Netflix-player implementation. The report said the interactive functionality was expected to remain, potentially with additional control options. Netflix did not comment to that outlet, so this should be treated as reported information rather than a confirmed Netflix announcement.
As of August 18, 2026, Netflix’s official Bandersnatch title page still resolved in at least some markets. However, that page displayed Brazil-specific pricing and indicated that the title was unavailable on an ad-supported plan because of licensing restrictions. This does not establish current availability in the United States or every other country, nor does it confirm which playback system is being used.

Can you watch Bandersnatch legally now?
If it appears in your Netflix catalog
- Search for Black Mirror: Bandersnatch in the Netflix app or open the official title page.
- Confirm that playback actually starts; a search result or indexed page is not enough.
- Check whether Netflix presents interactive choices rather than only a conventional video.
- Verify your plan and test a supported device if the title will not play.
Availability is country-specific. Netflix says titles may be hidden or unavailable because of regional rights, VPN use, profile maturity settings or profile-language settings. Its troubleshooting guide lists these causes. Plan restrictions can also apply: the official title page showed licensing-related limitations for an ad-supported plan in at least one market.

If it does not appear
There is no established official physical disc, standalone download or competing streaming release for the original interactive experience in the sources available for this article. A screen recording or linear fan edit would not provide the complete branching structure.
Do not assume that a VPN, unofficial archive or browser extension is a legitimate solution. Regional availability can change, but access should be checked through Netflix’s own catalog and according to its terms.

It is not a replacement for Bandersnatch. It does not provide Stefan’s branching film, its scenes or its endings. It is best understood as related Black Mirror game content, not an alternative way to replay the interactive movie.

How Netflix signals a removal
Netflix says that a title leaving within the next month normally displays a “Last day to watch on Netflix” notice on its details page or briefly when playback begins. The timing can still vary by country, time zone, app and device.
That is why “Netflix removed it globally” should be read as a description of the reported 2025 catalog event, not as proof that every viewer lost access at exactly the same moment or that a title page cannot remain online afterward.
The bottom line
Black Mirror: Bandersnatch did leave Netflix on May 12, 2025, but “deleted” is inaccurate. Netflix withdrew the original interactive experience from its normal streaming system. A later report said the special could return through Netflix Games in an emulated form, but Netflix did not officially confirm that report. Check Netflix directly in your country and on your plan: successful playback, not a surviving title page, is the only reliable proof that you can watch it.
