Choose Nebo (now MyScript Notes) to turn handwriting into editable text and structured notes; choose Notability for lecture or meeting capture with audio and PDF markup; choose Notewise for visual, flexible handwriting, collaboration, and broad platform access. They overlap, but they are built around different ways of working—not simply different feature counts.

The former Nebo brand is now presented by MyScript as MyScript Notes, formerly Nebo. The app name “Nebo” remains useful when comparing options because that is the name many people know.
The core difference: text, capture, or canvas
Nebo / MyScript Notes: make handwriting reusable
Nebo’s defining idea is that handwriting is structured input. It is the most natural fit when notes need to turn into editable text, organized documents, or mathematical notation—not just remain as ink on a page. A third-party comparison describes it as particularly strong for recognition, structured text, equations, and reusable documents, but that is a qualitative assessment, not the result of a controlled accuracy test. It suits people who want to write while a lecture, meeting, or presentation is happening, then revisit notes alongside the recorded material. Notewise: think spatially and work across devices
Notewise emphasizes a digital canvas for handwriting, sketching, planning, and visual work. Its official site also advertises OCR, searchable handwriting, audio transcription, collaboration, and AI tools, so it should not be dismissed as a drawing-only app or described as lacking handwriting recognition. Handwriting recognition and conversion
If your deciding question is “Can I turn what I wrote by hand into clean, editable content?”, start with Nebo. Its workflow is centered on converting handwriting into structured text and mathematical notation. That makes it a strong candidate for study notes, technical material, and drafts that will be reused in other documents. Do not treat qualitative praise for recognition as proof of a universal accuracy lead: results depend on handwriting, language, and the material being written.

Recognition and conversion are not identical. Search lets you find ink without necessarily changing it; conversion turns writing into text or notation you can edit and reuse. If preserving original ink matters, test the conversion flow on a sample note before moving a large archive. Audio, transcription, and lecture capture
Notability is the clearest choice when notes need to stay connected to a recording. Notability’s notebooks and pages suit linear class notes and document markup. Notewise’s digital-canvas positioning makes it worth considering for diagrams, planning, and visual layouts.

Claims about exact canvas behavior, pen latency, stroke smoothing, palm rejection, pressure sensitivity, shape recognition, or how layouts survive export need checking on your own device. AI features: compare the job, not the label

Notability’s feature table and pricing presentation can differ between pages, so confirm what a particular purchase includes rather than relying on an old list. Privacy, backups, and leaving the app
Before storing private meeting, research, or school material, check where notes and recordings live, whether cloud sync is optional, what AI processing sends to a service, and which export formats preserve usable content.
