If your Moxee hotspot is not working, first identify whether the fault is with its Wi-Fi network, cellular service, SIM or account, or one connected device. Check the model, restart it, then test Wi-Fi and cellular access separately. Exact menus and reset instructions vary: the K779HSDL is a documented 4G LTE model, while Moxee also offers newer 5G models such as the K873 family. Find your model under the battery cover, in Device Information, or on your carrier’s support page before following model-specific steps. See AT&T’s K779HSDL support page and Moxee’s product page.

Start here: charge and restart the hotspot; test beside it with a second device; check its cellular signal separately from Wi-Fi; verify the SIM, service and plan; and save your settings before considering a factory reset.

Identify what is failing

A device connected to the hotspot’s Wi-Fi has reached its local network; that does not prove the hotspot has cellular internet access. Use the symptom to choose the right checks:

If only one phone or computer fails while another works, troubleshoot the failing client first; its VPN, proxy, firewall, DNS or saved Wi-Fi configuration may be responsible.

Safe first steps for most Moxee hotspots

  1. Charge and restart. Use a compatible charger and allow the hotspot to start fully. If a K779HSDL is frozen, its manual says to hold Power for about eight seconds. That timing is model-specific; check your own manual for other models. K779HSDL user manual.
  2. Test nearby. Put your phone or computer within a few feet of the hotspot. If Wi-Fi works there but not in its usual location, distance or obstructions may be the issue. Keep the hotspot out of a metal cabinet and away from dense walls or appliances.
  3. Forget and reconnect. In the client’s Wi-Fi settings, choose the saved Moxee network and select Forget this network. Rescan, select the correct SSID and enter the current Wi-Fi key exactly.
  4. Try a second client. If one device cannot connect but another can, do not reset the hotspot yet. Fix the affected device’s saved network or Wi-Fi settings.

The K779HSDL quick-start material describes SSIDs with 2.4-GHz and 5-GHz variants, but names and available bands depend on model and carrier. In general, 2.4 GHz offers more range and compatibility; 5 GHz can work well nearby but has shorter reach and may not appear on older devices. If one band fails, try the other if your hotspot offers it.

If the Wi-Fi network does not appear

  1. Wait for the hotspot to finish starting, then check whether its Wi-Fi indicator is active.
  2. Move the client next to it and refresh the Wi-Fi list. Test with another phone or computer.
  3. Check whether the SSID was hidden or renamed in the hotspot’s settings.
  4. Restart the hotspot. If no client can see its network afterward, a disabled WLAN, faulty configuration, firmware issue or hardware fault may be involved.

A missing network on only one client can point to that device’s Wi-Fi adapter or saved-network state, rather than a hotspot failure.

If the password is rejected or forgotten

On a K779HSDL, check the device’s Wi-Fi Info screen for the current network name and key. On other models, use their on-screen instructions or manual; a label beneath the battery cover may show default details on some models, but this is not universal. Check capitalization and similar-looking characters, and forget the saved network before trying again.

If a computer is prompting for WPS, cancel that process and connect with the Wi-Fi password instead. If you cannot recover the password, reserve a factory reset for last: it removes user-defined Wi-Fi and administrator settings.

If Wi-Fi connects but there is no internet

Check the cellular side in this order. The hotspot’s Wi-Fi indicator and cellular signal are different things: strong Wi-Fi bars do not mean it has mobile service.

  1. Read the service indicator. Check the screen for signal bars, LTE/4G/5G, “No Service,” or a SIM message.
  2. Change location. Try a window, a higher unobstructed spot or another area. Wait several minutes after moving it. If service returns elsewhere, reception at the original location is likely the issue.
  3. Check the SIM. Confirm it is seated correctly and recognized. If the device requests a PIN or PUK, do not guess; see the SIM lock guidance below.
  4. Verify the line and plan with the carrier. Ask whether the device and IMEI are active and eligible, the SIM is provisioned, the account is in good standing, and the plan includes hotspot data. Check whether a high-speed allowance has been used or service suspended.
  5. Consider an outage or congestion. Try again later and consult the carrier’s service-status or support tools. Multiple clients failing at once makes a hotspot-side or carrier-side problem more likely.
  6. Check settings and error messages. If available, inspect Mobile Data and the connection or SIM status in the WebUI. Avoid changing APN, roaming or network selection unless the carrier gives you the correct settings.

For the K779HSDL, the manual documents auto-APN, so manual APN editing is normally unnecessary. If APN details are uncertain, ask the carrier rather than trying values found online. K779HSDL manual.

A useful split test is to connect two client devices. If both join Wi-Fi but neither reaches the internet, focus on coverage, SIM, account, plan or carrier settings. If one has internet and the other does not, investigate that client’s VPN, proxy, firewall, DNS or saved connection.

If the screen says “No Service”

Weak reception and hardware trouble are both possible causes; account or SIM problems can also prevent registration. Move the hotspot near a window or to a different known-coverage location, keep it clear of large metal objects, wait a few minutes and restart it. Check whether the SIM is detected and inspect the WebUI for errors. Moving the hotspot may improve cellular reception, but it is not guaranteed to do so.

If “No Service” follows the device across multiple locations, while the carrier confirms the SIM and account are active, ask the carrier to diagnose the device and check its IMEI eligibility. A 5G label does not guarantee 5G coverage or faster service: a 5G-capable model may fall back to 4G LTE, and actual performance depends on coverage, plan, supported bands and congestion.

Use the WebUI carefully

The K779HSDL manual documents a management WebUI. A manual reference lists http://192.168.1.1 and http://device.WebUI as possible addresses for that model family, but address, login and menu labels can vary. Use the instructions for your exact model and carrier, and connect to the hotspot’s Wi-Fi before opening its management page.

Depending on model, the WebUI may show device information and software version, mobile-data status, APN, roaming, network operator, connected clients, SMS, reboot and reset controls. Check whether mobile data is enabled, whether the network is registered, whether the SIM has a lock, and whether a client is blocked. Do not change APN, roaming or operator selection casually: incorrect settings can make a working connection fail.

SIM PIN and PUK: do not guess

On the documented K779HSDL, three incorrect SIM PIN attempts can require a PUK, and ten incorrect PUK attempts may permanently lock the SIM. Counts and behavior can be model- or carrier-specific, but the safe response is the same: stop entering codes and get the correct details from the carrier or SIM documentation. Factory reset only after other checks

A reset may clear a bad local configuration, but it cannot fix weak coverage, an inactive or incompatible SIM, a suspended account, exhausted plan allowance, carrier restrictions or damaged hardware. Before resetting, record the SSID, Wi-Fi key, administrator credentials, any carrier-provided APN settings and custom security, blocking or roaming settings. Keep your carrier account details and device IMEI available.

For the K779HSDL, the manual describes reset through the WebUI or the physical reset button under the back cover, held for about five seconds. Follow the instructions for your exact model; related hotspot manuals use different reset timings. Do not assume this duration applies to every Moxee device. K779HSDL user manual.

Slow, unstable or hot hotspot

Slow service can reflect weak signal, network congestion, multiple connected clients, high-speed data limits or carrier traffic management—not necessarily a defective hotspot. Compare performance in another location and at another time, check plan usage, and pause large downloads, streaming or cloud backups. Moxee’s product page advertises speeds “up to 150 Mbps”; that is a product-page maximum, not a guaranteed or typical result. Moxee product page.

Repeated drops can also follow overheating, unstable power, weak signal or a client limit. Let the device cool, keep vents unobstructed, use a compatible power source and reduce connected clients while testing. Ordinary warmth can occur under sustained use; stop using the device if the battery is swollen or damaged, the case is compromised, there is a burning smell, or the charger becomes abnormally hot. Follow the carrier or manufacturer’s safe replacement and disposal guidance.

If travelling internationally, confirm roaming with the carrier before enabling it. A device’s roaming setting alone does not authorize service or ensure the plan covers it.

When to contact the carrier or replace the hotspot

Contact the carrier when you need to confirm activation, IMEI status, SIM provisioning, plan eligibility, data allowance, roaming, outage status or warranty. For a carrier-supplied K779HSDL, start with AT&T’s model support page; for other carriers, use the original provider’s official support.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Ask the carrier to consider diagnostics or replacement if the hotspot never powers on with a known-good compatible charger, never detects an active SIM, shows no service in multiple known-coverage areas, or still cannot broadcast Wi-Fi after model-appropriate troubleshooting and reset. Also escalate suspected physical or battery damage. If replacing it, confirm model, carrier lock, IMEI eligibility, supported bands and plan compatibility before buying; a random used unit or a 5G label alone does not ensure it will work on your service.
