Motorola’s US product is officially called moto g – 2025; “Moto G 5G (2025)” is a common shorthand, not the confirmed retail name. It launched at a US MSRP of $199.99 on January 30, 2025. On paper, it combines 5G, a 6.7-inch 120Hz display, a 5,000mAh battery, expandable storage and a headphone jack. The trade-offs are equally clear: the screen is only HD+, physical RAM is limited to 4GB, and the rear camera system is basic.
What the moto g – 2025 is
The phone sits at the inexpensive end of Motorola’s 2025 lineup. Its MediaTek Dimensity 6300 platform and Motorola’s listed 5G bands make it a 5G-capable device, while Android 15 is installed at launch. Motorola also sold the more expensive moto g power – 2025 separately; that is a different model with a higher $299.99 launch MSRP.
The previous moto g 5G – 2024 used a Snapdragon 4 Gen 1, a 6.6-inch display, Android 14 and 18W charging, so its specifications should not be mixed with this model’s. (Motorola’s 2024 specifications)
Design, ports and durability
The phone measures 167.05 × 76.30 × 8.16mm and weighs 193g. Motorola uses a vegan-leather back, a side-mounted fingerprint reader built into the power button, a USB-C port and a 3.5mm headphone jack. The tray accepts a nano-SIM and microSD card; supported versions also list eSIM.

IP54 means limited protection from dust ingress and splashing. It is not waterproof, and it should not be submerged or deliberately exposed to pools, showers or heavy rain. The phone also has stereo speakers, Dolby Atmos, FM radio and three microphones. USB-C data is limited to USB 2.0 speeds.
Display: smooth refresh, modest sharpness
The 6.7-inch LCD has a 1604 × 720 HD+ resolution, 263 pixels per inch, a 20:9 aspect ratio and Gorilla Glass 3. Its 120Hz refresh rate should make scrolling and supported animations feel more fluid than a conventional 60Hz budget panel.
That refresh-rate headline comes with a major compromise: HD+ is relatively low resolution for such a large screen. Text, fine interface details and high-resolution photos will not look as sharp as they do on a Full HD+ or OLED phone. This is a specification-based assessment, not a substitute for hands-on display testing.

Performance, memory and 5G
The Dimensity 6300 is an octa-core chip clocked up to 2.4GHz with an Arm Mali-G57 MC2 GPU. Motorola lists 4GB of physical RAM. Its “up to 12GB” figure refers to RAM Boost, which uses storage as virtual memory; it does not turn the phone into a device with 12GB of physical RAM.
Storage is listed as 64GB or 128GB depending on market or configuration, with microSD expansion up to 1TB. Check the exact listing before buying, particularly if the lower-capacity version is being sold. The available specifications do not establish benchmark scores, gaming frame rates, thermal behavior or sustained multitasking performance, so those claims belong in a full review rather than a first look.
Motorola lists 5G NR bands n2, n5, n7, n12, n14, n25, n26, n28, n29, n30, n41, n48, n66, n70, n71, n77 and n78, alongside numerous LTE bands. Band lists do not guarantee every carrier feature: aggregation, standalone 5G, VoLTE, Wi-Fi calling and carrier provisioning can vary. Verify the exact model and carrier before purchase.

Cameras: one useful sensor and a basic macro camera
The rear array consists of a 50MP f/1.8 main camera with PDAF and Quad Pixel technology plus a 2MP f/2.4 macro camera. There is no listed ultrawide camera. Rear video is Full HD at 30fps from the main camera and HD at 30fps from the macro sensor, with digital zoom up to 8x.

The specifications alone cannot establish low-light quality, dynamic range, stabilization or video quality, so camera performance remains a hands-on question.
Battery, charging and software
A 5,000mAh battery and support for up to 30W TurboPower charging are the strongest endurance features on paper. Motorola advertises more than a day of use and rapid top-ups, but those are manufacturer claims rather than standardized independent test results. The specifications mention at least 800 battery cycles.

“Supports 30W charging” does not confirm that a 30W TurboPower charger is included in every box. Check the retailer or carrier package contents before buying an additional adapter.
Android 15 runs with Motorola’s Hello UX/My UX layer. Listed tools include customizable themes, wallpapers, layouts, fonts, colors and icon shapes, dark mode, gestures, attentive display, lock-screen options, Moto Secure and Google Assistant. Motorola’s cited specification page does not provide a complete update timetable for this model, so no specific number of Android upgrades or security years should be assumed.

Motorola announced a $199.99 US launch MSRP, with unlocked online sales beginning January 30, 2025 through Motorola, Amazon and Best Buy. It also announced carrier availability through T-Mobile, Metro by T-Mobile, AT&T, Cricket, Straight Talk, Total Wireless, Verizon, Boost Mobile, Xfinity Mobile, Consumer Cellular, Google Fi, Spectrum Mobile, UScellular and Optimum Mobile. That is the verified launch price, not a guaranteed current price. Retail discounts, carrier promotions, required plans, activation fees and trade-in conditions can change, so compare the live offer and exact model number.
Who should consider it?
- Good fit: buyers replacing an old LTE phone who want inexpensive 5G, long battery life, a large screen, expandable storage, stereo speakers and wired headphones.
- Less suitable: photographers, heavy gamers, buyers who want a sharp Full HD+ or OLED display, people needing stronger water resistance, or anyone expecting premium cameras, high physical RAM or a guaranteed long software-support period.
First-look verdict
The moto g – 2025 looks compelling when its priorities match yours: low upfront cost, 5G, a large 120Hz panel, a 5,000mAh battery, microSD support and a headphone jack. The compromises are not hidden, though. HD+ resolution, 4GB of physical RAM, a 2MP macro sensor, USB 2.0 and IP54 protection keep it firmly in budget-phone territory. It is a promising value option on specifications, but camera quality, real-world performance and battery endurance still require independent testing.
