The U.S. Motorola Edge (2024) is a lightweight midrange phone with a 6.6-inch 144Hz pOLED display, 5,000mAh battery, 68W wired charging, 15W wireless charging, IP68 protection and 256GB of storage. It launched at $549.99 on June 20, 2024, but in 2026 it makes sense mainly as a well-tested open-box or refurbished purchase. Its main compromises are the Snapdragon 7s Gen 2 processor, inconsistent camera processing and a shorter support horizon than newer rivals.
This is the North American motorola edge — 2024, not the Edge+ 2024 or the international Edge 50 Fusion/Edge 50. Regional specifications, bands, accessories and software availability can differ.

Motorola announced U.S. availability for June 20, 2024, with a $549.99 MSRP. It was sold unlocked through Motorola, Amazon and Best Buy, and offered through carriers and brands including T-Mobile, Metro by T-Mobile, Spectrum, Consumer Cellular, Straight Talk, Total by Verizon and Visible. The launch color was Midnight Blue with a vegan-leather-style rear.

The MSRP is historical, not a sensible 2026 benchmark. Remaining new stock may be scarce, while used and open-box listings are more common. Best Buy search results observed during research showed unlocked 256GB open-box examples around $165.99–$214.99, although price, condition and local stock change constantly. Check the current listings rather than treating those figures as a guaranteed price.
Design, display and durability
At 174g, the Edge is light for a phone with a 6.6-inch screen. Its curved “Endless Edge” pOLED panel gives it a more premium appearance than many flat midrange phones. Resolution is FHD+ (2400×1080, 402ppi), with DCI-P3 color, 10-bit depth, DC dimming and a listed 720Hz PWM mode. The 144Hz maximum refresh rate makes scrolling and supported games look fluid, but it does not mean every app renders at 144 frames per second; the system can lower refresh rate to save power.
The panel’s 1,300-nit peak brightness is useful outdoors. Curved sides can also introduce reflections, edge distortion and accidental touches. Gorilla Glass 3 is older cover glass, so a case and protector are sensible. The rear finish is comfortable to hold but is not a substitute for drop protection.

It is not “waterproof.” Do not charge the phone while wet, use it in salt or chlorinated water, or expose it to high-pressure spray. Liquid damage and protection after a repair may not be covered.
Performance and storage
The Snapdragon 7s Gen 2 is a midrange chip. Messaging, streaming, navigation, photography and ordinary multitasking should be comfortable, and the high-refresh display can make the interface feel faster than the processor sounds on paper. It is not a flagship platform, however. Demanding 3D games, sustained high frame rates and long-term performance headroom are weaker than on newer performance-focused phones.
The U.S. model has 8GB of LPDDR4X RAM and 256GB internal storage. Motorola’s U.S. specification list does not include a microSD slot, and there is no headphone jack. An in-display fingerprint reader, stereo speakers with Dolby Atmos, NFC and ThinkShield security branding are included.
Cameras: capable hardware, uneven processing
The main camera combines a 50MP Sony LYTIA 700C sensor, f/1.8 aperture, 1.0µm pixels, optical image stabilization and Quad PDAF. The 13MP ultrawide has a 120-degree field of view and doubles as a macro camera. The 32MP autofocus front camera records 1080p at 30 or 60fps.

Rear video supports 4K at 30fps and 1080p at 30/60fps; slow motion reaches 1080p at 120/240fps. There is no dedicated telephoto lens, so distant subjects rely on digital or computational zoom rather than optical magnification.
Motorola includes Ultra-Res, Portrait (24mm, 35mm and 50mm options), Pro and long-exposure modes, Night Vision, RAW capture, Dual Capture, Spot Color, Tilt-Shift, Google Lens, Auto Enhance, Smart Composition, Audio Zoom and adaptive stabilization. Those features describe possibilities, not guaranteed image quality. Reviews found the Edge’s camera processing less consistent than Google’s Pixel phones, particularly for HDR, motion and low-light scenes. The sensor and OIS are promising, but computational photography remains a major part of the result.
Battery and charging
The 5,000mAh battery is one of the Edge’s strongest features. Motorola advertises “up to 36 hours,” a manufacturer estimate based on a mixed-use profile rather than guaranteed screen-on time. The efficient midrange processor, large cell and optional lower refresh rates can support a full day for many users.
TurboPower wired charging is rated at 68W, while Qi-compatible wireless charging reaches 15W. Actual speed depends on the charger, cable, temperature, battery level and regional packaging; charging naturally slows near full. A used phone can have substantially less battery capacity than a new one, so battery health matters more than the printed 5,000mAh figure.

Software and updates
The phone shipped with Android 14 and Motorola’s relatively restrained interface, including Moto gestures, Moto Unplugged, Family Space and customization tools. Motorola now publishes an Android 16 help guide for the Edge (2024), documenting features such as the Settings > Modes hub, same-Google-account Wi-Fi and hotspot handoff, improved Bluetooth hearing-aid support and general security and stability improvements.
That documentation confirms Android 16 functionality exists for the relevant North American software channel, but it does not make every carrier rollout simultaneous. Unlocked and carrier models can receive updates at different times, and security-patch availability must be checked for the exact unit. To check manually, use Settings > System updates > Check for updates. Motorola says its plans can change and advises against casual downgrades after installation.

Motorola lists sub-6GHz 5G, 4G LTE, 3G WCDMA, 2G GSM, Wi-Fi 6E, Bluetooth 5.2, NFC and GPS support including GLONASS and Galileo. The USB-C port supports USB 3.1 and DisplayPort 1.4, making wired display output a useful capability that many specification summaries omit.

Do not assume every unlocked Edge works on every U.S. carrier. Confirm the exact SKU or IMEI, required LTE/5G bands, eSIM support, carrier lock status and firmware channel before buying. Wi-Fi 6E also depends on a compatible router and local regulatory conditions.
Who should buy it?
- Buyers who want a smooth, large OLED display and a relatively light phone.
- People who value 5,000mAh endurance, very fast wired charging and wireless charging.
- Motorola users who like gestures and a less cluttered interface.
- Anyone finding a clean, unlocked 256GB unit around $150–$200 with a return window and healthy battery.
Who should skip it?
- Heavy gamers who need sustained flagship performance.
- Camera-first buyers who want the most reliable point-and-shoot processing or optical zoom.
- Owners planning many years of updates and predictable support across every carrier.
- Anyone paying close to $550, or even $300 without strong warranty coverage, when newer phones are available.
Used and open-box buying checklist
- Confirm the exact U.S. 256GB model, clean IMEI and unlocked status.
- Check carrier bands, eSIM activation and return eligibility.
- Inspect the curved screen for cracks, dead pixels, burn-in and deep scratches.
- Test USB-C, 68W charging, wireless charging, cameras, autofocus, OIS, speakers and fingerprint reader.
- Ask about battery health, overheating and rapid drain.
- Confirm the charger and cable are included if TurboPower speed matters.
- Do not assume IP68 protection remains intact after opening or repair.
- Check that the device receives updates through its expected unlocked or carrier channel.
Alternatives to consider
A Google Pixel A-series phone is generally a better fit for computational photography and longer support. A newer Motorola Edge may offer a faster processor and more remaining software life, but international Edge 50 or Edge 60 specifications are not automatically equivalent. Samsung Galaxy A models can provide a longer support policy and flat screens, while OnePlus and similar performance-focused midrange phones may be faster or charge aggressively. Compare the exact U.S. model, warranty and current price—not just the family name.
Final verdict
The Motorola Edge (2024) remains an appealing hardware package when discounted: light body, excellent-looking 144Hz OLED, big battery, 68W wired charging, 15W wireless charging, IP68 protection and 256GB storage. Its processor and cameras are adequate rather than class-leading, and software longevity is less reassuring than on newer alternatives. In 2026, buy it when the condition and price are right—roughly $150–$200 for a well-checked open-box or used unit is compelling. Near the original MSRP, choose a newer phone instead.
