The best verified value is the unlocked Moto G Stylus 5G (2024): about $180 for 128GB, or roughly $190 for 256GB when Best Buy has stock. The Moto G Stylus 2025 costs considerably more, while the 2026 model’s observed $499.99 price is regular retail—not a verified sale. Prices and availability below are a U.S. snapshot checked August 18, 2026; confirm the final checkout price and stock before buying.

Prices are not directly interchangeable: verify the model year, storage, condition, seller, and whether activation or another promotion is required. Best Buy availability can depend on ZIP code. Motorola’s 2024 128GB listing, its 2024 256GB listing, and Best Buy’s unlocked-phone sale page are the relevant starting points.
Best deal: Moto G Stylus 5G (2024)
At $179.99 for 128GB unlocked, the 2024 model is the standout bargain. Its 256GB version is an especially attractive buy around $190, but stock is less certain: Motorola showed that configuration out of stock, while Best Buy listed it at $189.99. Check the exact listing and local inventory rather than assuming either retailer has it available nationwide.
The 2024 phone has a built-in stylus, a 6.7-inch pOLED display, a 50MP main camera, and a Snapdragon 6 Gen 1 platform. It is aimed at everyday note-taking, signatures, annotations, and casual drawing—not at matching the newer model’s active-pen capabilities. Choose it if keeping the price down matters most and you want a built-in stylus. The trade-off is age: it has less remaining software-support runway than a 2026 phone. Confirm Motorola’s current support information for the exact model before buying if update longevity is a priority; do not infer an exact end date from the model year alone.
What the 2026 model adds—and what it costs
Best Buy listed the unlocked 128GB Moto G Stylus 2026 at $499.99, with no verified discount. Motorola markets this generation as “moto g stylus – 2026”; the product title does not consistently include “5G,” although the specifications include 5G. The price is therefore a current retail price in this snapshot, not a sale just because older generations cost less. A 256GB price of $599 has been reported by Android Central, but it was not independently confirmed on Motorola’s live product page.

The higher price buys meaningful hardware changes. Motorola lists an active stylus, a 6.7-inch Extreme AMOLED Super HD display, a Snapdragon 6 Gen 3 processor, 8GB physical RAM, up to 256GB storage, and microSD expansion up to 1TB. RAM Boost can add up to 16GB of virtual memory, but virtual RAM is not the same as physical RAM. The phone also has a 5,200mAh battery, 68W wired charging, 15W wireless charging, a 50MP Sony LYTIA 700C camera with OIS, 4K recording, NFC, and Android 16. At roughly $310 more than the 2024 128GB deal, the 2026 is for buyers who specifically value its active stylus, newer display and camera hardware, wireless charging, faster wired charging, durability claims, and newer software starting point. It is difficult to justify for someone who only wants an inexpensive phone with a pen.
Where the 2025 model fits
The unlocked Moto G Stylus 2025 with 256GB was listed at $349.99 at Best Buy, $50 below a stated $399.99 comparable value. That is a modest reduction, not a price that beats the 2024 model on value. It can make sense if you want a newer generation but do not need to pay for the 2026 model’s active stylus and other listed upgrades. Secondary comparison coverage describes the 2025 and 2026 models as broadly similar in core specifications, but that does not make them identical or establish which is better for every user. Compare the exact features and support terms you need.

Which one should you buy?
- Spend as little as possible: Get the 2024 128GB model around $180, provided it is new, unlocked, and sold by a seller whose return and warranty terms you accept.
- Get the most storage for your money: Look for the 2024 256GB version around $190 at Best Buy, but check local inventory; Motorola’s own listing showed it out of stock in the observed snapshot.
- Choose a newer model at a middle price: Consider the 2025 256GB model around $350 if the newer generation matters to you enough to pay substantially more than for the 2024.
- You need an active stylus or want the newer hardware: Consider the 2026 model, but treat $499.99 as full retail unless checkout shows a genuine discount.
- You plan to keep the phone for years: A newer starting OS can mean more remaining support time, but verify the current policy for the exact SKU. A Motorola customer-care response displayed in the Best Buy 2026 listing says up to two major Android upgrades and security updates through April 2029. Treat that as an attributed retailer-hosted answer and check Motorola’s security-update page for confirmation.
Check these details before checkout
- Confirm the generation and capacity. “Moto G Stylus” is not a complete model identifier. Check the year and storage in the listing; do not assume a low price applies to the newest generation.
- Make sure the price is truly unlocked. Separate an unlocked price with no activation from an offer that requires a new line, port-in, trade-in, carrier activation, financing, or prepaid service. Compare the total cost, including any required service, rather than the phone price alone.
- Check the seller and condition. Prefer Motorola or the named retailer when possible. For marketplace offers, inspect who sells the phone, whether it is new, refurbished, or open-box, the warranty, return window, and included accessories.
- Match the exact model to your carrier. “Unlocked” does not mean identical service on every network. Confirm the SKU and carrier’s compatibility, including 5G bands, VoLTE, Wi-Fi calling, and eSIM support if those features matter. Best Buy lists the 2026 model for broad U.S. carrier use, but carrier databases and features can vary by model and change over time; verify with your carrier before ordering.
- Read the checkout terms. Check local stock and pickup availability, shipping, taxes, activation charges, and return terms. Retailer savings may compare the sale price with a list or comparable value, not a recent street price.
