The Moto G Power 5G (2024) launched in the U.S. at $299.99. In 2026, it is worth considering only at a substantial discount: observed Best Buy listings put a new unlocked unit at $126.99, while other offers start lower but may be used or sold by marketplace sellers. Motorola currently schedules security updates through March 2027, making this a short- to medium-term budget choice rather than a long-term investment.
Moto G Power 5G (2024) price and availability
Motorola introduced the moto g power 5G – 2024 in the United States in March 2024. The unlocked version had a launch MSRP of $299.99 and went on sale through Amazon, Motorola.com, and Best Buy on March 29, 2024. Cricket availability began March 22, with carrier prices and promotions varying. Motorola’s launch announcement is the reference for those original dates and price.
That $299.99 figure is historical, not a reliable guide to what the phone should cost now. A Best Buy result crawled in 2026 showed a new unlocked 128GB listing at $126.99, with other buying options from $92.85. A separate Best Buy open-box example showed $194.99 for an “Excellent” unit. These are observed listing signals, not guaranteed prices or proof that every offer is new, unlocked, or sold directly by the retailer. Check the current listing’s seller, condition, warranty, and returns before paying.

Motorola’s U.S. specification sheet lists the full feature set. Actual network features and included accessories can depend on the model and carrier package.
What kind of phone is it?
The name matters: this is the Moto G Power 5G (2024), not the Moto G Power 2023, 2022, 2025, or 2026, and not the separate Moto G 5G (2024). “Power” identifies Motorola’s battery-oriented budget-phone line; it does not mean flagship-level processing power. “5G” describes cellular connectivity, not a performance class.
Display, design, and everyday handling
The 6.7-inch screen is roomy for video, reading, and large on-screen controls. Full HD+ resolution is sharper than basic HD, and the 120Hz refresh rate can make scrolling and supported animations look smoother than on a standard 60Hz screen. It is still an LCD, not OLED: buyers who care about deeper blacks, stronger contrast, or an OLED-equipped display should compare newer phones before choosing it.

The back has a vegan-leather finish, and the phone weighs 201g. It also keeps a 3.5mm headphone jack, a useful feature for wired headphones. Motorola describes the construction as water-repellent, but does not give it an IP67 or IP68 rating in the cited specifications. Do not treat it as waterproof or safe to submerge; a protective case is sensible around rain, spills, or outdoor work.
Performance, memory, and storage
The MediaTek Dimensity 7020 and 8GB of physical RAM are aimed at everyday tasks: messaging, web browsing, video, navigation, and ordinary app switching. This is a budget processor, not a reason to expect top-tier gaming performance. Demanding games may require lower graphics settings, and the official specification sheet does not provide benchmark results to support a more precise performance comparison.
Motorola advertises RAM expansion up to 16GB, but that does not mean the phone contains 16GB of physical RAM. The additional capacity is virtual memory allocated from storage, which is not equivalent to adding physical RAM. The 128GB internal capacity also has less usable space after Android and preinstalled software take their share; a microSD card can provide room for compatible files and media.

Battery and charging
The 5,000mAh battery is a substantial capacity for this price category, but actual endurance depends on signal strength, screen brightness, refresh rate, apps, and usage. “Power” is not a guarantee of a particular number of hours or days for every owner.

Those are device capabilities, not a promise that every package includes a 30W adapter or a wireless charger. Motorola notes that some carrier configurations may include a 10W or 20W charger. Check the box contents and budget for a compatible charger if fast wired charging matters. Wireless charging is slower than the maximum wired rate, and performance depends on the charger, alignment, case, and conditions.
Cameras: useful features, with budget limits
The rear camera system pairs a 50MP main camera with optical image stabilization (OIS) and an 8MP ultrawide/macro camera. The selfie camera is 16MP. OIS can help steady the main camera, but megapixel counts alone do not establish photo quality, especially in low light. Motorola lists rear video recording up to 1080p at 60fps and front recording up to 1080p at 30fps; the cited specification sheet does not list 4K recording.

Software support is the key 2026 trade-off
The phone launched with Android 14 and is eligible for Android 15. Motorola currently lists it as receiving regular security updates, with updates scheduled to stop in March 2027. Motorola says updates are at least bi-monthly, while warning that timing may vary with region, carrier, and other release conditions. Check the security-update schedule and Android 15 support information for the latest status.
That deadline changes the value calculation. Buying in 2026 leaves a limited scheduled security-support runway, so the phone is easier to recommend for a low-cost temporary or one-to-two-year role than for someone who expects to keep a phone for many years. The published date is Motorola’s current schedule, not an unconditional guarantee; the company notes that support timing and plans can vary.

Carrier compatibility: verify the exact unit
Motorola lists compatibility with major U.S. networks including AT&T, Verizon, T-Mobile, U.S. Cellular, Google Fi, Boost Mobile, Cricket, Metro, Tracfone, Consumer Cellular, Straight Talk, Mint Mobile, Visible, and Total Wireless. Its compatibility page lists Republic Wireless, Ting, and Xfinity Wireless as unsupported. Even for a listed carrier, features such as 5G, VoLTE, Wi-Fi calling, and video calling may vary. Consult Motorola’s carrier compatibility page and the carrier before purchase.

For marketplace or clearance stock, confirm the exact model, U.S. variant, and IMEI with the intended carrier. Make sure the phone is unlocked if you plan to switch networks. A compatibility listing does not guarantee every carrier feature, and an MVNO’s device rules can change independently of the phone’s hardware.

Should you buy the Moto G Power 5G (2024)?
These are buying guidelines, not Motorola prices. They reflect the observed 2026 listings and the phone’s remaining scheduled security-support period:
- About $100–$130, new and unlocked: A strong value if it is a U.S. model from a reputable seller with a clear return policy.
- About $130–$160: Potentially reasonable from a reliable retailer, especially if wireless charging, the headphone jack, and microSD matter to you.
- About $160–$200: Usually questionable for open-box or refurbished stock unless you specifically want those features and the condition, warranty, and returns are clear. Compare against current alternatives first.
- Near $300: Skip it. That was the launch MSRP; at that level, a newer phone with a longer support runway is a more sensible comparison.
Buy it if you need an inexpensive unlocked phone for roughly one or two years and find a verified new unit near the low-to-mid-$100 range. Consider it as a backup, travel, or family phone only when the condition and seller protections are clear. Skip it if long-term updates, OLED, certified water resistance, or demanding gaming matter most.
At prices approaching $300, compare the newer Moto G Power (2026) and current budget phones with longer support. A newer model may offer a longer runway, but feature sets change; for example, coverage of the 2026 model indicates it drops wireless charging, so the 2024 phone may still suit someone who values that feature above longevity. Compare total cost, including the service plan and any required charger or accessories, rather than judging on handset price alone.
