If a Teams meeting disconnects and the desktop app shows CoreError Layout_Error or Loading chunk 7520 failed after 1 tries, Teams failed to load part of its interface while trying to render or recover the meeting. The number 7520 is a client component identifier, not a code that identifies one universal cause. Rejoin in a browser first; then use the checks below to distinguish a brief connection drop from a desktop-client, cache, WebView2, security, or broader service problem.

What “Loading chunk 7520 failed” means

Teams loads its interface in separate application modules, often called chunks. This message means the client could not load one of those modules after one retry. A stale cache, interrupted connection, failed update, blocked request, damaged local app data, rendering problem, or service-side issue could each contribute; the message by itself does not identify which one happened.

The exact wording reported in a new Teams meeting-disconnection case was “Loading chunk 7520 failed after 1 tries.” A report published April 13, 2023 associated that particular incident with an internet interruption and an external-monitor connection failure. That is one user’s observation, not proof that monitors or internet drops always cause this error. Read the original incident report.

“Chung 7520” is likely a misspelling of “Chunk 7520.” The identifier is not a standalone Microsoft error code with a fixed meaning across Teams versions.

  • Great for Music and Talking with immersive sound for listening to music and a noise-canceling mic that ensures that your voice is heard on the other end of a call—not the noise around you.
  • On ear controls to adjust volume, start/end calls, and invoke Teams. Plus button controls for power, active noise cancellation (ANC), wireless Bluetooth pairing, and mute on/off or use the flip-to-mute mic feature.
  • Certified for Microsoft Teams ensures it’s easy to pick-up or answer Teams meetings, calls, messages, and notifications with a single press to the Teams button. Or apply a longer touch to invoke Cortana voice skills.

Rejoin the meeting before repairing Teams

  1. Open the meeting invitation again and try to rejoin. Let the organizer know you were disconnected, especially if the meeting is still in progress.
  2. If the desktop app fails again, open Teams on the web in a supported browser and join the same meeting. If needed, try another device or phone.
  3. If your connection dropped, reconnect to the network. If permitted by your organization, test a different network or disconnect and reconnect the VPN.
  4. Fully quit Teams from the taskbar or system tray, then open it again and rejoin.

Web access is also a useful comparison: if the meeting works in the browser but not in the desktop app, focus on the desktop client, its local data, WebView2, graphics, or endpoint controls. If both fail, check the connection, meeting or account context, and service health before repeatedly clearing local data.

Work out whether the fault is local or broader

  • One user, one device: Check the desktop client, local cache, network path, VPN, WebView2, graphics, and security software.
  • One user on desktop and web: Investigate the user’s network, account, meeting, or a service-side problem.
  • Several users in one organization: Check Microsoft 365 service health, tenant policies, identity services, firewall or proxy changes, and shared network telemetry.
  • Users across unrelated organizations: Check Microsoft 365 service status and current incident reports; do not assume a local cache repair will resolve a widespread problem.

Microsoft recommends examining network, compute, device, and media factors when troubleshooting meeting problems. Its Teams connectivity guidance also notes that firewall and proxy connectivity can be a source of client problems.

Reset or clear the new Teams cache on Windows

Start with the Windows reset option. Microsoft notes that resetting deletes Teams app data, including personalization settings, and you may need to sign in again. Menu labels can vary somewhat by Windows and Teams version.

  1. Open Settings → Apps → Installed apps.
  2. Search for Microsoft Teams, then select More options (…) → Advanced options.
  3. Under Reset, select Reset.
  4. Open Teams again and sign in if prompted.

If reset does not help, Microsoft documents this cache location for new Teams on Windows:

  1. Quit Teams completely from the taskbar or system tray.
  2. Open the path above in File Explorer and delete the files and folders inside it.
  3. Restart Teams. Its first launch may take longer while it rebuilds local data.

Follow Microsoft’s cache-clearing instructions if the path or steps differ in your installation.

Use the correct cache instructions for classic Teams or macOS

Classic Teams on Windows

Do not use the new Teams package path for classic Teams. For classic Teams, Microsoft documents %APPDATA%MicrosoftTeams: quit Teams, delete the contents of that directory, and reopen the client. Confirm which Teams generation you have before removing app data; the Microsoft cache guide covers both clients.

New Teams on macOS

Quit Teams first. Microsoft’s documented new-Teams cache locations are:

rm -rf ~/Library/Group Containers/UBF8T346G9.com.microsoft.teams
rm -rf ~/Library/Containers/com.microsoft.teams2

These commands delete application data. Confirm you are using new Teams and have selected the intended paths before running them; you may need to sign in again and restore local preferences.

Test network, VPN, proxy, and display changes carefully

A short Wi-Fi roam, packet loss, VPN renegotiation, proxy interruption, firewall filtering, or ISP drop can interrupt a meeting. A large download-speed result alone does not establish that the Teams connection is healthy: stability, latency, packet loss, DNS, and proxy behavior can matter. Compare desktop and browser behavior, test another network where policy allows, and ask IT to review Microsoft 365 URL and IP access if Teams works only on some networks.

If the error appeared while docking, undocking, waking a display, or changing monitors, try reproducing it once with the dock and external monitor disconnected. If that changes the behavior, have IT check graphics, dock, USB-C or Thunderbolt, and display drivers or firmware. Timing alone does not establish that the monitor caused the failure.

Check WebView2 and endpoint security on managed devices

New Teams uses Microsoft Edge WebView2 for part of its desktop interface. Investigate it if Teams repeatedly opens to a blank or error screen, crashes during interface transitions or meeting recovery, works in a browser but not on the desktop, or logs show WebView2 failures. Microsoft’s client-crash guidance covers WebView2 and other possible stability factors.

Antivirus, data loss prevention (DLP), firewall, proxy, or other endpoint controls may interfere with Teams or WebView2. Microsoft lists these process names for security-tool allowlisting:

  • msedgewebview2.exe
  • ms-teams.exe
  • ms-teamsupdate.exe
  • msteams_autostarter.exe

Executable paths and policy procedures depend on deployment. Ask IT to verify vendor-specific rules against Microsoft’s Teams antivirus and DLP guidance. Do not disable protection or uninstall WebView2 as a first step; it may be managed centrally and used by other applications.

Administrator checks for recurring meeting failures

For repeated incidents, use the Teams admin center meeting troubleshooting experience to examine the affected user or completed meeting, then review meeting, participant, and session-level details. Compare reconnect attempts and the diagnostic categories Microsoft provides, including network, compute, device, and media. Available telemetry and retention depend on license and meeting state. See Microsoft’s meeting and call monitoring guide.

  1. Open the Teams admin center and locate the affected user or completed meeting.
  2. Open the meeting details and inspect participant and session diagnostics.
  3. Compare sessions and reconnect attempts, then follow the suggested checks for the relevant issue category.
  4. Correlate the time with network, proxy, firewall, identity, endpoint-security, and service-health changes.

When escalating, provide the exact error text and screenshot, timestamp with time zone, Teams version and operating system, network and VPN status, whether other users were affected, and any monitor, dock, camera, or headset changes. Include the meeting identifier or organizer details only through approved support channels.

Browser diagnostics can help when the issue is reproducible in a browser. Open edge://webrtc-internals/ in Edge or chrome://webrtc-internals/ in Chrome, reproduce the problem, then save the relevant page content for support. Microsoft explains browser traces and WebRTC logs in its Teams browser logging guide. Treat logs as sensitive: share them with authorized support staff, not publicly.

When to reinstall Teams

Resetting or clearing the correct client cache is a reasonable early repair when the issue appears limited to one desktop installation. Reinstall only after checking connectivity, service health, WebView2, and endpoint controls. A reinstall is more disruptive and will not correct a blocked network path, tenant policy, service incident, or security rule. If several users are affected or both browser and desktop fail, route the case to the responsible administrator rather than repeatedly repairing one client.
