On a desktop, open the page, press Ctrl+Shift+S (or open Screenshot from the context menu or Settings and more), then choose Capture full page or drag a region. You can mark up the result with a mouse, pen, or touch, then copy it or save it as an image.
The feature captures content below the visible viewport, so it is useful for long articles, dashboards, receipts, and documentation. The exact menu and behavior can vary by Edge version, device, market, and enterprise policy.
What happened to Edge Web Capture?
Microsoft renamed Web Capture to Screenshot. Microsoft Learn’s policy documentation states: “Note: the web capture feature is rebranded to ‘Screenshot’.” Older help pages and administrator settings may still use the Web Capture name, which is why both terms appear in searches and company documentation.
Screenshot is a browser feature, not a separate extension. Microsoft describes it as a way to turn anything on the web into a shareable image. It has two capture scopes:

- Capture full page: creates one image of the complete document, including content that is currently below the viewport.
- Capture area: lets you drag around a specific region, such as a chart, product card, or paragraph.
After capture, Edge provides drawing and annotation controls. The result can be copied to the clipboard or saved to a file. Microsoft specifically documents pasting a copied capture into Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and OneNote.
Which capture mode should you use?

Platform and policy requirements
The documented enterprise policy, WebCaptureEnabled, lists support for Edge 87 or later on Windows and macOS. It lists Android and iOS as not supported for this policy. That policy covers web and PDF capture, inking annotation, and visual image search.
If the policy is enabled or not configured, Microsoft says Screenshot is exposed in the context menu, the Settings and more menu, and the Ctrl+Shift+S shortcut. An organization can manage the feature, so a missing command on a managed computer may be an administrative choice rather than a broken browser.
Microsoft also warns that availability and functionality vary by device type, market, and browser version. Treat labels and shortcut behavior as version-sensitive. On a phone or tablet, do not assume that the desktop feature or the enterprise policy is available; the policy documentation explicitly excludes Android and iOS.
How to take a full-page screenshot in Edge
- Open the page. Navigate to the webpage you want to capture and wait for the main content to appear.
- Open Screenshot. Press Ctrl+Shift+S. Alternatively, right-click the page and choose Screenshot/Web Capture, or open the Settings and more menu and select the same command. The wording may differ between versions.
- Select the scope. Choose Capture full page for the complete document. If you only need part of it, choose the area option and drag over the required region.
- Review the capture. Check the bottom of the image and any sections that were loaded after scrolling. Full-page capture is intended to include content that was not visible when you started.
- Add markup if needed. Use the draw tools with a mouse, pen, or touch input. Add notes, highlights, arrows, or other callouts without changing the source webpage.
- Choose an output. Select copy to place the image on the clipboard, or save it to a file. A copied capture can be pasted into Word, Excel, PowerPoint, or OneNote.
If the command is not in the right-click menu, use the Settings and more menu or the shortcut. If all three entry points are absent, check the troubleshooting section below and your organization’s policy.

How to capture only a region
Use the area mode when a full-page image would include private information, irrelevant navigation, or an unnecessarily large document. Start Screenshot from the shortcut or a menu, choose the area option, then drag from one corner of the required region to the opposite corner. Release the pointer, review the selection, and annotate, copy, or save it in the same way as a full-page capture.
Area capture is also the safer choice for sharing a single table or error message. Crop before adding marks so annotations stay aligned with the content you intend to discuss.
Annotating a capture with a mouse, pen, or touch
Screenshot’s draw tools accept mouse, pen, and touch input. Use a mouse for quick arrows and boxes, a pen for handwriting on a compatible device, or touch for a tablet-style markup workflow. Keep annotations on the captured image rather than the live page; closing the source tab does not remove a saved image.

For review workflows, copy the marked image into the document where the discussion is happening. Saving a separate file is preferable when the image must be uploaded to a ticket, attached to an email, or retained as an evidence record.
Capturing pages with video, GIFs, and carousels
Microsoft’s feature description notes that moving content such as videos, GIFs, and web carousels can remain active while you capture a precise frame. Pause or position the moving element first when the exact frame matters. If the content changes during a full-page capture, repeat the capture after selecting the desired state; Screenshot does not turn a live video or carousel into a static, time-stamped recording.

Pages that load content only after scrolling can also require a review pass. Scroll the source page once before invoking Screenshot when you know images or cards are lazy-loaded, then inspect the lower portion of the resulting image.
Troubleshooting Edge Screenshot
The shortcut does nothing
- Open Screenshot from the right-click menu or Settings and more menu to determine whether only the shortcut is affected.
- On a managed Windows or macOS installation, ask an administrator whether the WebCaptureEnabled policy has been disabled. When the policy is disabled, the documented menu and shortcut exposure may be removed.
- Confirm that you are using a supported desktop Edge version. The policy documentation names Edge 87 and later for Windows and macOS, while mobile platforms are not supported by that policy.
“Web Capture” appears in one place and “Screenshot” in another
This is normally a naming difference. Microsoft rebranded Web Capture to Screenshot, but older documentation, policy references, or cached help can retain the former label. Use the command that opens the same capture interface.

Capture full page is missing
- Open Screenshot from a different entry point; menus can vary by version and policy.
- Update Edge through its normal browser update channel, then restart it.
- Check whether the page is a restricted document or an embedded view rather than a normal webpage. If the command is still absent, verify enterprise policy settings.
The bottom of the page is incomplete
First let the page finish loading, then scroll through it once so lazy content has a chance to appear. Capture again and inspect the lower edge. A page that requires interaction, authentication, or continuous scrolling may not expose every element in a single static state; capture the relevant area separately when necessary.
Annotations are hard to control
Use a mouse for precise short marks or a pen/touch device for handwriting. If the input device is not recognized, finish the capture, save it, and annotate the image in an editor that supports your hardware. The Screenshot feature itself is documented as supporting mouse, pen, and touch input.
The feature is unavailable on a phone
The WebCaptureEnabled policy lists Android and iOS as not supported. Use desktop Edge on Windows or macOS for the documented workflow, or use the mobile operating system’s own screenshot function when a simple viewport image is sufficient.

Edge Screenshot versus an automated screenshot API
Edge is convenient when a person is already looking at a page and needs a one-off image with quick markup. An API is better when a server, build job, monitoring task, or AI agent must capture URLs repeatedly without opening a browser window.

Screenshot is local to the browser session, so it is practical for an immediate human decision: open, capture, mark up, and paste.
