Yes—Microsoft 365 Business Basic without Teams is a separate Microsoft subscription, not just the regular plan with the Teams app hidden. It keeps Microsoft business email, 1 TB of OneDrive storage per user, SharePoint, and web and mobile Office apps; what it removes is the bundled Teams service. It is a sensible fit if your business already uses another collaboration platform and does not need desktop Office.
One caveat: Microsoft’s US pages have shown conflicting prices for the no-Teams plan. Treat the figures below as dated price signals, not a guaranteed quote, and verify the price and terms at checkout.
What is Microsoft 365 Business Basic without Teams?
Microsoft presents Microsoft 365 Business Basic (no Teams)—also described as Business Basic without Teams—as a distinct subscription option alongside Business Basic with Teams. It is not a setting that disables Teams on an otherwise identical license. The key difference is the Teams service entitlement: the no-Teams plan does not bundle Microsoft Teams business chat, meetings, calling, and related collaboration features.

Microsoft lists Business plans for organizations of up to 300 users; special programs and licensing channels can have different terms. US price: check the exact offer before buying
As of August 16, 2026, Microsoft’s US pages did not agree on one price for Business Basic without Teams. Some displayed $4.40 per user per month with annual billing and $5.28 per user per month with monthly billing; Microsoft’s main business pricing page displayed $5.40 per user per month with an annual subscription. Microsoft showed the standard Business Basic plan at about $6.00 per user per month annually and $7.20 monthly on several pages.
Those figures make the apparent annual-plan difference between the no-Teams and Teams versions either $1.60 or $0.60 per user per month, depending on which no-Teams price applies. That is $19.20 or $7.20 per user per year before tax. Do not base a purchase decision on that estimate alone: Microsoft’s plans and pricing page and its product page have shown different figures. Your region, billing term, sales channel, taxes, and checkout offer can affect the amount. Check renewal and cancellation terms before subscribing.
What remains included
Web and mobile Office apps
The plan includes web and mobile versions of Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and OneNote. It does not include the full desktop Office apps; those are associated with Business Standard and higher plans. If your staff depend on desktop Excel features, macros, desktop add-ins, or offline workflows, Basic may not be enough.

Business email and calendar
You can use a custom domain for business addresses such as [email protected], with Exchange-based email and calendaring. This is business email in a Microsoft 365 organization, not simply a consumer Outlook.com mailbox. Microsoft lists spam and malware filtering as plan features.

OneDrive, SharePoint, and file collaboration
Microsoft lists 1 TB of cloud storage per user, OneDrive, and SharePoint team sites (SharePoint Plan 1). Staff can share files and coauthor documents in supported web and mobile Office apps. Without Teams, you still have Microsoft’s storage and SharePoint infrastructure; those services are not Teams-only.
Other services, administration, and support
Microsoft’s plan materials list services such as Planner, Forms, Bookings, To Do, Lists, and Microsoft Search, though the precise app list and feature descriptions can vary with the plan matrix and market. Microsoft also lists identity and access management, support, and a financially backed uptime guarantee for applicable services. These features should not be mistaken for a complete advanced security or device-management suite: capabilities such as conditional access and advanced endpoint protection may require another plan or product.
AI features: distinguish chat from paid Copilot
Current Microsoft plan pages describe an AI chat experience with web grounding, writing help, data analysis, and access to agents, and list Microsoft 365 Copilot separately as an add-on. Availability can depend on the app, tenant, region, and account configuration. Do not assume that the no-Teams subscription includes the full paid Microsoft 365 Copilot experience; confirm the applicable license and features with Microsoft.

Business Basic without Teams does not bundle Microsoft Teams for business use. In practical terms, do not count on this subscription to provide the plan’s Teams chat, channels, business calls, video meetings, scheduled meetings, guest access, screen sharing, meeting collaboration, Teams app integrations, or Teams-based workspaces. Microsoft’s comparison identifies these as capabilities of the Teams version.

This is more than the absence of a Teams desktop app. It is the absence of the bundled Teams service entitlement. At the same time, it does not remove Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Exchange, OneDrive, SharePoint, or the other services listed for the plan. Nor does an included Exchange mailbox mean that Teams meetings are included.
A person may still encounter a separate free Teams experience through a personal account or another license. That is different from having Teams business capabilities bundled with this subscription. Microsoft may offer separate Teams licenses, but whether one suits your tenant depends on region, purchase channel, and what you need Teams to do.

For email, files, and browser-based Office work, the plans are closely aligned. The meaningful difference is the collaboration platform entitlement, not the Microsoft productivity and storage foundation.
Basic without Teams or Standard without Teams?
If you do not want Teams but do need installed desktop versions of Word, Excel, PowerPoint, or Outlook, compare Business Basic without Teams with Business Standard without Teams. Standard adds desktop apps alongside web and mobile apps; Microsoft also describes additional features such as webinars, Loop workspaces, and Clipchamp, with packaging subject to change. The Standard choice is about desktop apps and its other included features—not a larger OneDrive allowance. Both plans are generally listed with 1 TB of storage per user.
- Choose Business Basic without Teams for business email, storage, SharePoint, and browser/mobile Office when desktop apps are unnecessary.
- Choose Business Standard without Teams if users need installed Office apps but not Teams.
Check Microsoft’s current small-business plan comparison and purchase page for current packaging and the Standard price; do not infer Standard’s price from Basic’s.
Is it really cheaper for your business?
It is cheaper than the Teams version only if the offer you receive is lower—and the saving matters after you account for how your staff communicate. If you already pay for Zoom, Google Meet, Slack, Webex, or another platform, removing bundled Teams may avoid paying for a service you do not use. But the relevant comparison is the total cost of Microsoft 365 without Teams plus the communication tools you need, not just the Microsoft 365 line item.
A separate service can also mean another user-provisioning system, admin console, support path, and set of retention or compliance settings. If your organization does need Teams, Microsoft lists Teams Essentials at $4 per user per month paid yearly on its comparison page; it is a separate product, not a replacement for Business Basic’s Exchange email, OneDrive, SharePoint, and Office apps. Possibly, but treat this as a licensing question rather than assuming there is a universal one-click conversion. Microsoft offers separate Teams products and licensing paths, but availability and suitability depend on your country or region, tenant, direct or partner billing, and whether you need meetings, full Teams collaboration, or telephony.
- In the Microsoft 365 admin center, check Billing → Your products and the available purchase options. Labels can change.
- Look for a Teams license that matches the functions your users need; do not assume a meetings-only product includes every Teams business capability.
- Confirm that the license can be assigned to the intended users in your tenant and review any service or data implications before changing subscriptions.
- If billing is partner-managed, licenses are mixed, or the correct Teams product is unclear, confirm the route with Microsoft or your licensing partner.
For existing customers: plan a switch, not just a purchase
Buying a new no-Teams subscription is different from replacing Teams licenses already assigned to employees. Before moving existing users from Business Basic with Teams, identify who relies on Teams chat, channels, calls, scheduled meetings, integrations, and shared workspaces. Check how meeting scheduling and participation will work after the change, especially for recurring meetings and external guests.
Test any mixed-license arrangement with representative users: some employees may retain Teams while others use the no-Teams plan, but shared workflows can behave differently across those groups. Also review Microsoft’s current Teams deprovisioning, data-retention, and compliance rules before removing a license. Do not assume Teams data will be deleted immediately, retained indefinitely, or migrated automatically; the public plan descriptions do not settle every offboarding consequence.
Who should choose Business Basic without Teams?
It is a good fit for a small business that needs Microsoft-hosted email, OneDrive, SharePoint, and web/mobile Office, but has deliberately standardized on another chat or meeting platform—or does not need one bundled with Microsoft 365. It can also suit contractors and browser-first teams that want those Microsoft services without desktop Office.
Choose another option if your staff rely on Teams chat, channels, meetings, calling, or integrations; if users need desktop Office; or if you need advanced identity, device management, security, compliance, or analytics capabilities beyond Basic. Ordinary Business Basic is the simpler choice when you want the integrated Teams experience and its price works for your organization. Consider Standard without Teams when desktop Office is the missing requirement.
Before you buy: quick checklist
- Confirm Teams is genuinely unnecessary for the users covered by this subscription.
- Verify that web and mobile Office are enough; Basic does not include desktop Office apps.
- Check the US checkout price, billing term, renewal terms, taxes, and cancellation conditions rather than relying on an old or conflicting page figure.
- Compare the cost of the separate communication service you will use, including its administration and security overhead.
- If replacing or mixing existing licenses, test user workflows and review current Teams data and retention rules first.
