Mercado Play is Mercado Livre’s ad-supported video service, with a free catalog of movies, series and other programming plus some titles available as paid rentals. The free catalog does not require a monthly subscription or Meli+, but it is available only in selected Latin American countries, and the titles vary by region. Mercado Livre lists Argentina, Brazil, Mexico, Colombia, Chile, Peru and Uruguay as supported markets.
What is Mercado Play?
Mercado Play is Mercado Livre’s on-demand entertainment service. Launched in 2023, it brings licensed content from third-party studios and partners into the Mercado Livre ecosystem. Its free offering uses an advertising-supported video-on-demand model, or AVOD: viewers can watch without paying a monthly fee, while advertising supports the service. Some films are offered separately as rentals, a transactional video-on-demand model (TVOD). Mercado Libre describes both models in its service terms.
It is a standalone streaming product, not another name for Meli+. Mercado Libre has also described Mercado Play as a video environment that complements its Mercado Ads business. That connection explains the role of advertising; it does not mean the service is merely a storefront for Mercado Livre listings.
Is Mercado Play free?
The free catalog has no monthly subscription charge, but it is not ad-free. Ads are part of the viewing experience, and their format or frequency can vary by title, country, device and current implementation. The service terms allow for ads that may be skippable or non-skippable; there is no dependable universal ad-break schedule to quote.

Not every title shown in the service is necessarily included for free. Selected films can be rentals with a one-time charge. Look for the title’s access label before pressing play: wording differs by market and language, but it should make clear whether it is included or requires payment. Rental prices are title- and country-specific. Internet access and any mobile-data charges are also your responsibility. Mercado Livre’s help page on pricing says the free access does not require a monthly subscription.
What can you watch?
The catalog includes movies, series, documentaries, reality programming and children’s content, with material from Latin American and international—including Hollywood—partners. It is a licensed, rotating selection, not a fixed library of Mercado Livre originals. Mercado Livre’s terms explain that availability depends on third-party agreements.
A February 6, 2024 company announcement reported more than 1,200 titles and more than 100 additions per week at that time. Those are historical figures, not a current audited count or a promise about what is available now. Since rights and schedules differ by country, a movie available to a viewer in Argentina may not appear in Mexico or Brazil. Subtitles, dubbing and ratings may differ too.

Where is Mercado Play available?
Mercado Livre’s corporate disclosures identify Argentina, Brazil, Mexico, Colombia, Chile, Peru and Uruguay. Treat this as a market-specific service rather than a platform available throughout all of Latin America. The company’s regional access guidance says viewers receive the catalog for the region where they are located.
The cited corporate information does not establish general availability in the United States. If you are outside the named markets, check whether Mercado Play appears in the official Mercado Livre app, website or your local TV app store rather than assuming you can sign up. A VPN is not a reliable or appropriate workaround for territorial licensing.
How to start watching
- Open the Mercado Livre website or app for your country, or the Mercado Play app if it is offered there.
- Search the app for Mercado Play. The menu location and label can vary by country, language and software version.
- Sign in or follow the on-screen access flow. Account requirements and terms can depend on your market; check the local service terms if you are unsure.
- Choose a title and check whether it is free/included or a paid rental before starting playback.
You can also watch in a computer or mobile browser where the service is available. The free catalog does not require a Meli+ subscription. Rental purchases may require an active Mercado Livre and/or Mercado Pago account and an enabled payment method under the local terms.

Watching on a smart TV
Mercado Livre expanded Mercado Play to connected TVs in 2025. Availability is not universal: the app must be distributed for your country and supported by your television’s operating system. On its Brazilian TV support page, Mercado Livre lists Samsung televisions with Tizen 5.5 or later, Android TV/Google TV with Android 6 for TV or later, LG televisions with webOS 6.0 or later, and Android devices with Android 6 or later. These are Brazil-page specifications, not guaranteed global requirements; check your local app store and the TV’s compatibility.

To install on a supported television:
- Connect the TV to the internet and open its app store.
- Search for Mercado Play and install the official app if it appears.
- Open it and choose Iniciar sessão (sign in) or the equivalent option.
- Complete the pairing shown on screen. The Brazilian instructions offer a QR code, a browser code at play.mercadolivre.com.br/mercado-play-tv, or account linking through the Mercado Livre app. Prompts can vary by market and app version.
If pairing fails, check that the phone and TV use the intended account, generate a fresh code if the first has expired, or try the QR option. Do not enter account credentials on unofficial pairing sites.
The app is missing from your TV
A missing listing can mean the TV model or operating-system version is unsupported, Mercado Play is not available in your country, the TV’s app-store region differs from your location, or distribution has changed. Check the TV’s country and software version, install available firmware updates, and search the exact app name in the official store. If the app remains unavailable, try a supported phone, tablet or computer instead. Do not sideload APKs from unknown sites; another streaming device is not a guaranteed fix unless Mercado Play officially supports it in your region.

Mercado Play and Meli+ are different

Meli+ may include or discount other entertainment services in some markets, but that is separate from access to Mercado Play’s free catalog. Check the local Meli+ offer for its benefits and price; subscribing solely to watch free Mercado Play content is not necessary.

Mercado Play is presented by Mercado Libre as a commercial platform distributing licensed content from third-party studios and partners, including through revenue-sharing arrangements. That is a different stated model from unauthorized streaming sites or illicit IPTV services. Licensing is territorial, however, so this does not mean every title is offered in every country or that catalog availability cannot change.
Account, age and privacy rules are set out in country-specific terms. For example, the Mexican terms describe eligibility and supervised access for some minors, and require a stable internet connection. Check the terms for your country, especially when creating a child’s account or renting a title.

Mercado Play is a sensible option if you live in a supported market, want legal viewing without another subscription and are comfortable with ads. It is less suitable if you need an ad-free experience, a stable lineup of current blockbusters, guaranteed 4K or offline downloads, or a consistent catalog across borders. Do not assume advanced profiles or any particular feature unless it is listed in the local app.
How it compares with other streaming services
- Pluto TV: a free, ad-supported alternative with live, linear channels as well as on-demand programming. It is a closer fit if you want a channel guide and lean-back live viewing.
- Tubi: another free, ad-supported on-demand service. Tubi says its service is legal and does not require a credit card, but its catalog and availability vary by market.
- Netflix: a paid service for viewers seeking originals and a more conventional subscription library. Prices and plan availability vary by country; U.S. prices should not be used as a guide to Latin American pricing.
- Prime Video: may make sense for existing Amazon Prime members or people who want a mix of included titles, rentals and channel add-ons. It is not a like-for-like free substitute.
Check each service’s local catalog and availability before choosing: none of these comparisons implies that the same titles or features are offered everywhere.
Quick fixes for common problems
- A title asks for payment: It may be a rental rather than part of the free AVOD catalog. Check its access label and the displayed price before confirming.
- Your catalog differs from someone else’s: This is expected. Compare country, date checked, language and whether the title is rented or included; licensing changes what each region can show.
- Playback buffers or fails: Confirm your connection, try another title, restart the app or TV, and install available app and TV updates. Sign out and back in, or test a supported browser or another device. If only one title fails, the issue may be title-specific rather than a general device problem. Mercado Livre does not specify a universal minimum internet speed in the cited guidance.
- TV sign-in does not work: Generate a new code, try QR pairing, and confirm the TV and phone are linking the intended account. Pairing cannot overcome country-level unavailability.
