Fatman did stream free on Tubi from January 1, 2025—but that was a dated availability announcement, not a permanent offer. The latest U.S. listing reviewed, dated July 28, 2026, showed the film free through Fawesome, with subscription options and digital rental or purchase alternatives. Streaming rights can change by date and region, so check the destination service before watching.

What the January 1 announcement meant
The original announcement said that Fatman would begin streaming on Tubi on January 1, 2025. Because that report appeared in December 2024, “from January 1” referred to that historical launch date—not an upcoming January 1 in 2026 or 2027.
Older streaming stories often continue to appear in search results after a licensing window changes. That is why the Tubi report and the later U.S. availability listing should be treated separately: Tubi was the announced platform for the 2025 window, while the current service listing must be checked independently.

What is Fatman about?
Directed and written by brothers Eshom Nelms and Ian Nelms, the 2020 film follows Chris Cringle, played by Mel Gibson, as a worn-down, financially troubled Santa trying to keep his workshop operating.
After a wealthy child receives coal, the boy hires an assassin to kill Santa. The target is pursued by Jonathan “Skinny Man” Miller, played by Walton Goggins. The result is an unusual collision of Christmas fantasy, dark comedy, action thriller, western imagery and siege-movie tension.

The film plays its premise more seriously than a broad parody. Gibson’s Santa is an exhausted, armed working man rather than a cheerful family-film mascot, while Goggins’ hitman supplies much of the story’s grimly comic edge.

Is Fatman suitable for children?
No. The film is rated R and contains strong violence, firearms, killings, profanity and an adult, bleak tone. Santa’s presence and the Christmas setting can make it look like a family movie in search results, but Fatman is intended for adults and is not a conventional holiday film for children.

Fatman is a reasonable choice for viewers who want a strange, violent Christmas story, or who enjoy Mel Gibson, Walton Goggins and genre movies that combine familiar mythology with action conventions. Its main appeal is the unusual premise and the contrast between Gibson’s battered Santa and Goggins’ methodical assassin.

It is a poor fit if you want a cheerful Santa comedy, a traditional Christmas adventure or a child-friendly holiday movie. Viewers choosing the free option should also expect commercial interruptions, and viewers using a subscription service should confirm that the film is included rather than available only through a separate channel or transaction.
