As of August 2026 in the U.S., HBO Max does not offer a universal free trial to every new customer. You can watch House of the Dragon without paying only when a qualifying plan, provider, or limited promotion displays a genuine trial at checkout. If no trial appears, the lowest-cost direct option is one month of Basic with Ads at $10.99 before tax.
HBO Max’s current catalog lists House of the Dragon, including Seasons 1 and 2, and records the Season 3 premiere on June 21, 2026. Availability and offers can vary by country and billing provider.

Is there a Max free trial for House of the Dragon?
There is no standing “seven-day Max trial” that every U.S. customer can claim. HBO Max says most subscription providers do not offer a free trial to new subscribers. A trial is available only when the specific plan or promotion shows one during enrollment; the displayed length, eligibility rules and billing date control.

When a legitimate trial is offered for a plan that includes the series, trial users can stream the same catalog covered by that plan. It is not a special House of the Dragon trial. Do not rely on old articles promising a standard trial, or on third-party “free trial” pages that are not confirmed by HBO Max or the company that will bill you.
How to check for an active trial
- Open the official HBO Max product page.
- Select a plan or an eligible bundle.
- Create an account or sign in, then add a payment method.
- On the final checkout screen, look specifically for “Free trial,” the trial length, eligibility restrictions, first paid billing date and renewal price.
- Proceed only if those terms are acceptable. The checkout offer—not a historical article—is the controlling source.
- After activation, open HBO Max and search for House of the Dragon. If it is missing, complete any provider activation and check that you are using the correct account and region.

How to cancel before a trial charge
Cancel through whoever bills you. A subscription billed directly by HBO Max is canceled in its account subscription controls; Amazon, Apple, Google Play, Roku, Samsung, a mobile carrier, television provider or another partner generally requires cancellation through that provider.

- Cancel at least 24 hours before that date where possible.
- Save the confirmation email or a screenshot, then verify the displayed end date.
- Deleting the HBO Max app does not cancel a subscription.
Use HBO Max’s billing-provider guidance to identify who charges you. If a charge appears, contact that billing provider first.
Cheapest legal ways to watch if no trial appears
One month of Basic with Ads
For viewers who want only the series, one month of Basic with Ads is usually the simplest low-cost route: $10.99 monthly (or $109.99 annually), before tax. HBO Max says this plan includes Full HD and two simultaneous devices. Ads appear before and during shows at approximately six minutes per hour.
Student pricing
Eligible students at U.S.-accredited colleges or universities can check the verified UNiDAYS offer: Basic with Ads for $5.49 per month, available for up to 12 months under the provider’s terms. It is discounted access, not a free trial.
Existing provider benefits
Check accounts you already pay for before starting a new subscription. HBO Max lists access routes including existing HBO television subscriptions, Amazon Prime Video Channels, Hulu, Philo Core, eligible Verizon myPlan Unlimited perks, Xfinity, YouTube TV and other participating providers. Inclusion is conditional: you may need to activate the benefit and connect the provider inside HBO Max. Simply having a qualifying account may not create access automatically.
Disney+, Hulu and HBO Max bundle
The bundle costs $19.99 per month with ads or $32.99 without ads. It can be worthwhile for a household that already wants Disney+ and Hulu, but it costs more than one month of standalone Basic if House of the Dragon is your only objective. See the official bundle terms.
Prime Video Channels and Philo
Prime members can add HBO Max through Prime Video Channels, choosing the plans Amazon displays. HBO Max says Basic with Ads is included with Philo Core. Neither route is a guaranteed free trial; compare the total cost of the wider service with a direct HBO Max month.

Annual plans are advertised as roughly 16% cheaper than paying monthly, but they require prepaid commitment. Standard and Premium can still include advertising in live programming. HBO Max says 4K UHD, HDR10 or Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos are available on select titles, devices and setups; House of the Dragon requires the applicable Premium plan and compatible equipment. Can you watch the complete series free without HBO Max?
There is no verified official source showing the complete House of the Dragon series is freely available without a subscription or qualifying promotion. HBO Max may offer selected free episodes or previews, but a free-watch collection is not proof that every season is available.
A website promising pirated episodes is not a safe alternative. Unauthorized streams can expose you to malware, deceptive payment forms, intrusive advertising, copyright claims and stolen passwords. Use an official trial, an existing provider benefit or the least expensive paid plan instead.

Common problems and fixes
“I signed up, but there was no trial”
The plan may not include a trial, you may not meet a new- or returning-customer requirement, the provider may use different terms, or the checkout offer may have been a discount rather than free access. HBO Max warns that ineligible users can be charged at sign-up.
“I canceled and was still charged”
Check whether you canceled after renewal, canceled the app rather than the subscription, or used the wrong billing provider. Review your bank statement and subscription screen, then contact the company listed as the biller with your cancellation proof.
“The show is missing”
Confirm provider activation, the correct HBO Max profile, a supported country, an updated app and a supported device. Catalog rights vary by market, and a trailer or preview is not the full series.
