Master PDF Editor 5.6.42 is a genuine historical release, published on August 19, 2020. It was a maintenance update for the Windows, Linux, and macOS editions of Master PDF Editor 5—not a major feature upgrade. The publisher’s download page now lists version 5.9.98, dated April 15, 2026, so 5.6.42 should be treated as a legacy build rather than a current download recommendation.
What is Master PDF Editor 5.6.42?
Version 5.6.42 belongs to the fifth major generation of Code Industry’s desktop PDF editor. It followed version 5.6.40 on August 18, 2020, and was followed by 5.6.49 in September and 5.6.80 in November. The historical release date and changelog are documented by Code Industry in its previous updates archive.
The release was available across the product’s desktop platforms, although some fixes were platform-specific. Its scope was maintenance: interface polish, shortcut reliability, printing corrections, localization, and a macOS signature-check fix.

- New default icon sets: a visual interface adjustment, not a new PDF-editing capability.
- Updated localization: multilingual interface resources were revised. The changelog does not identify every language or each translation correction.
- Keyboard-shortcut conflict checking: shortcut customization could identify duplicate assignments instead of silently allowing conflicting commands.
- Keyboard-setting reset fix: corrected a problem in which default or customized keyboard settings could revert unexpectedly.
- macOS signature-check fix: improved checking of digitally signed PDFs on macOS. The changelog does not specify every certificate or signature format affected.
- Custom print page sizes: added support for defining nonstandard paper dimensions, useful for specialist forms and print workflows.
- Text-color selection fixes: addressed problems selecting or applying text colors; this was not a general text-rendering overhaul.
- Multiple-copy printing fix: corrected print jobs that requested more than one copy.
- Other minor fixes: the publisher grouped additional small corrections without detailing each one.
In practical terms, 5.6.42 improved reliability for people who customize shortcuts, print unusual page sizes, print multiple copies, or validate signatures on a Mac. It did not represent a wholesale redesign of Master PDF Editor.

Is 5.6.42 still current?
No. The official download center lists Master PDF Editor 5.9.98 for Windows, Linux, and macOS. Code Industry’s update material dates that build to April 15, 2026. That puts 5.6.42 and 5.9.98 nearly six years apart:

An old version is not automatically proof of a security vulnerability. The available 5.6.42 changelog records functional fixes, not a complete security-advisory history. It is more accurate to call the build old and unsupported as a current choice than to make an unverified security claim.

Should you keep it or upgrade?
Keeping 5.6.42 can be reasonable when
- a validated legacy workflow depends on its exact behavior or interface;
- an offline or regulated environment requires change control;
- you have tested only this build with important forms, fonts, signatures, or print processes;
- your existing license does not clearly include a later release and you are not ready to renew.
Upgrading is the better choice when
- your operating system or desktop environment has changed;
- you need current Linux packaging or Apple-silicon support;
- you are encountering printing, rendering, forms, or signing problems;
- you need current vendor support and later compatibility fixes.
Master PDF Editor’s current product pages describe editing PDF text and objects, annotations, bookmarks, merging and splitting, encryption, digital signatures, JavaScript and Dynamic XFA forms, redaction, and related tools. Those are product capabilities, not features that should automatically be credited to the 5.6.42 update; later changelogs are needed to establish when any particular capability arrived.
How to update safely
- Record the installed build. Use the application’s About or version dialog and save the information for rollback documentation.
- Preserve your setup. Keep the old installer if available, license details, custom shortcuts, templates, and workflow-specific settings.
- Build a test set. Use copies of digitally signed PDFs, JavaScript or XFA forms, unusual-font documents, annotation-heavy files, custom-size print jobs, and sensitive files that can be tested without exposing originals.
- Download from Code Industry. Use the official download page. A search result or mirror listing 5.6.42 does not prove that an installer is authentic or unmodified; the current download center is not clearly presented as an archive for that exact build.
- Check licensing first. Code Industry describes a purchased version as perpetual, with 12 months of updates and email support. Later update and support access may require renewal, reportedly at 50% of the then-current price. Confirm which release your purchase covers through the purchase information or support.
- Install using your platform’s normal installer. Do not assume that Windows, Linux, and macOS installers all support side-by-side installation in the same way.
- Reactivate only if prompted. The activation FAQ says one license permits two activations; if the limit has been exceeded, deactivate an old system or contact support through the activation FAQ.
- Regression-test before replacing production. Open and save copies, inspect fonts and form calculations, verify annotations and bookmarks, test signatures without overwriting originals, and print both multiple copies and custom page sizes.
Free and paid use
The demo is functional but places a watermark on output. A commercial license removes that watermark and enables unrestricted use. Code Industry describes the purchased version as perpetual, while updates and support are included for 12 months rather than indefinitely.

Linux has an additional distinction: unregistered use is limited to personal, noncommercial use. Commercial work and full functionality require a license. See the publisher’s Linux information and demo FAQ for the current terms. A license is not automatically an unlimited multi-user entitlement; terminal-server or network deployment may require separate licensing under the license agreement.

Windows: the current 5.9.98 page lists Windows 7, 8, 10, and 11 and identifies the virtual PDF printer as Windows-only. Do not retroactively apply those requirements to 5.6.42 without checking its installer.

Linux: current packages include Debian/Ubuntu, RPM, tarball, AppImage, repository, Snap, and ARM64 options. The current page documents newer Qt and glibc requirements; those are not verified requirements for 5.6.42.
macOS: 5.6.42 specifically included a signature-check fix. Current downloads target Intel and Apple silicon Macs and list macOS 12.0 requirements, which should not be attributed to the 2020 build.

When another PDF editor makes more sense
Master PDF Editor is a practical cross-platform desktop choice when you want editing, forms, signatures, and a perpetual-license option. Consider alternatives when your priority is different:
- Adobe Acrobat for a broad enterprise ecosystem, cloud workflows, OCR, and collaboration.
- Foxit PDF Editor for another desktop and enterprise-oriented option.
- PDF-XChange Editor for a Windows-focused feature set.
- LibreOffice Draw for occasional basic edits without a commercial license.
- Okular for free viewing and annotation, especially on Linux, when full object editing is unnecessary.
Verdict
Master PDF Editor 5.6.42 is legitimate, but it is a six-year-old maintenance release—not the current version and not a sensible first download in 2026. Keep it temporarily when a controlled legacy workflow depends on it. For new installations or users facing compatibility, printing, signing, or support issues, start with the publisher’s current 5.9.98 build, verify your license, and test representative PDFs before switching production work.
