Master PDF Editor 5.6.20 was a real release covered in July 2020, but the contemporary update record did not provide a dedicated changelog for it. It was listed for Windows, macOS, and Linux as shareware. Later versions were released, so 5.6.20 is a historical build—not a sensible default for a new installation in 2026.
The key distinction: features and fixes documented for versions 5.6.09 and 5.6.18 should not be presented as changes introduced by 5.6.20. If you need the program today, check the vendor’s current offering rather than relying on an old installer listing.
What is Master PDF Editor?
Master PDF Editor, from Code Industry, is a desktop application for viewing and working with PDF files. Period coverage described capabilities including editing text and images, creating PDFs, rearranging or combining pages, adding annotations and bookmarks, filling and creating forms, and handling signatures and document protection. It also described XPS-to-PDF conversion, JavaScript support, and importing or exporting pages as images.

When did version 5.6.20 come out?
Neowin covered the update on July 6, 2020. Separately, the Chocolatey package record shows approval on July 11, 2020. Those are publication and package-approval dates; neither should be treated as definitive proof of the vendor’s exact release date.
The bracketed “[Update]” in the old article title was an editorial label, not part of the product’s version number. The software version is Master PDF Editor 5.6.20.

What changed in 5.6.20?
The specific 5.6.20 changelog was unavailable in the contemporary coverage. As a result, the source does not establish which fixes or features this version introduced. An update article that lists nearby release notes can make the history confusing, so keep the versions separate:

These are 5.6.09 notes, not confirmed 5.6.20 changes.

Platforms and historical download sizes
The contemporary listing offered builds for Windows, macOS, and Linux. Its approximate file sizes were Windows 42.7 MB, macOS 29.0 MB, and Linux 66.8 MB. These are historical figures, not current installer sizes or evidence that the old builds still work on today’s operating systems.
Linux users should be especially careful about assuming compatibility: a package for one distribution, architecture, or library stack may not work on another. A historical community record refers to a Qt5 x86_64 Debian package, but that does not establish universal Linux support. Likewise, the old platform listing does not prove compatibility with current Windows or macOS releases.

Is Master PDF Editor 5.6.20 still available or safe to install?
A Chocolatey record documents a 5.6.20 package, and its version history shows releases later than 5.6.20, including versions in the 5.6, 5.7, 5.8, and 5.9 series. That establishes that 5.6.20 is not the latest version recorded there; it does not prove what Code Industry currently offers, supports, or recommends. The official destination to check is Code Industry’s product page. Current official availability of the 5.6.20 installer and its present support status have not been established here.
Because this is a 2020 build, treat it as obsolete. No evidence cited here confirms that it receives security updates or works reliably with modern operating systems and newer PDF features. That is a reason for caution, not proof of a specific vulnerability in 5.6.20. Old PDF software can pose compatibility and security risks simply because its parser and dependencies may no longer be maintained.

If you must use this exact version for a legacy workflow, first look for the installer through the vendor. Avoid random mirrors, repacked installers, cracks, and keygens; the existence of a third-party package record is not a guarantee of current integrity or support. If you cannot verify the installer’s origin, do not use it with sensitive files. Where testing is unavoidable, use an isolated environment, keep the original document untouched, and check edited output in a maintained PDF viewer.

The right replacement depends on what you need to do. Simple annotation or page rearrangement does not require the same tools as OCR, redaction, complex forms, or professional signature workflows.

Choose the tool around the job. Filling a form, merging pages, and adding an annotation are different from accurately editing text in a complex PDF. For scanned pages, check for OCR. For sensitive content, use a tool with genuine redaction rather than placing a black shape over text. For signatures, distinguish a visible signature image from a cryptographic digital signature and from a managed e-signature service with identity checks and audit records. A product description that mentions signature creation or validation does not establish legal compliance or a managed signing workflow.
