Apple released the fourth developer beta of macOS Sequoia 15.2 on November 20, 2024. Build 24C5089c continued testing the Apple Intelligence features planned for macOS 15.2, including Image Playground and ChatGPT integration with Siri and Writing Tools.
This was a test build, not a separate finished feature release. Apple published macOS Sequoia 15.2 for everyone with a compatible Mac on December 11, 2024, so beta 4 is now obsolete.

The beta was part of a broader Apple Intelligence rollout across Apple’s operating systems. Available reporting did not establish beta 4 as a major Mac-exclusive feature launch; its importance was that it gave testers another build for evaluating features expected in the macOS 15.2 release.
Apple Intelligence features being tested
Image Playground
Image Playground lets users create playful, stylized images from text descriptions, suggested concepts and people selected from the Photos library. Apple described styles including animation and illustration. The feature could also be used through apps such as Messages and Freeform, with images synchronized across devices through iCloud.

Access was not necessarily immediate for every tester. Early image-generation features could involve a waitlist or staggered rollout, meaning that installing the beta did not guarantee that every advertised tool would appear.
ChatGPT in Siri and Writing Tools
macOS 15.2 added ChatGPT as an optional extension of supported Apple Intelligence experiences. Siri could hand suitable requests to ChatGPT, while Writing Tools could use it for more open-ended composition and editing.
Writing Tools already supported tasks such as proofreading, rewriting, changing tone, summarizing, extracting key points and creating lists or tables. ChatGPT extended those workflows for requests that went beyond Apple’s built-in transformations. ChatGPT was also associated with image-generation workflows in the 15.2 feature rollout.

ChatGPT was not the same thing as Apple Intelligence processing. When the ChatGPT extension was used, Apple’s documentation said that the request, attachments and limited contextual information could be sent to ChatGPT. Review the permission prompt and account settings before submitting confidential business, personal, financial or medical material. See Apple’s explanation of ChatGPT with Apple Intelligence.
Other platform features
Genmoji and Image Wand were also part of the wider iOS 18.2 and iPadOS 18.2-era Apple Intelligence rollout. They should not automatically be treated as Mac features in the same form. Image Wand was primarily described for iPad and Notes, while Mac coverage for this beta was more clearly centered on Image Playground and ChatGPT integration.

Compatibility: installing Sequoia is not the same as using Apple Intelligence

During the initial 2024 rollout, Apple Intelligence supported U.S. English and localized English variants for Australia, Canada, Ireland, New Zealand, South Africa and the United Kingdom, according to contemporaneous reporting. A compatible Mac could still lack features if its device language and Siri language did not meet the requirements, if the feature had not launched in the user’s region, or if access was still waitlisted. Apple’s current documentation may list broader availability than existed during this beta period; those later requirements should not be applied retroactively.

Apple Intelligence remained a beta experience. Additional support files or models might have been downloaded after installation, but no reliable storage figure should be assumed for beta 4.

- Back up the Mac with Time Machine or another reliable method.
- Open System Settings.
- Choose General, then Software Update.
- Open Beta Updates.
- Select the developer beta channel associated with the enrolled Apple ID.
- Install macOS Sequoia 15.2 beta 4 if it appears, then restart when prompted.
Apple’s beta controls can change between macOS releases. This was the historical installation path, not a current way to obtain beta 4 in 2026. Do not download configuration profiles or installers from unofficial sites.

A reasonable choice for
- Developers checking application compatibility.
- Apple seed-program participants testing Apple Intelligence.
- People with a spare Mac and a complete backup.
- Testers willing to report problems through Feedback Assistant.
A poor choice for
- A primary work or school computer.
- Systems used for banking, production audio or video, VPNs, virtualization or enterprise software.
- Anyone who needed stable performance or guaranteed access to every AI feature.
The benefit was early access and extra testing time. The costs included bugs, app failures, battery or performance problems and incomplete feature availability. Since the final release arrived only a few weeks later, most ordinary users had little reason to install beta 4.

Apple’s macOS release-note guidance treats beta software as a testing environment. Issues not listed in the notes should be reported through Feedback Assistant.

Common problems and what they meant
The beta did not appear
Check that the Mac was enrolled in the relevant Apple beta program, that Software Update used the enrolled Apple ID and that the correct beta channel was selected. Restart and check System Settings → General → Software Update again. If the Mac was already running a later beta or the final release, beta 4 would not be offered. Do not attempt an informal downgrade.
Apple Intelligence was missing
Confirm that the Mac had an M-series chip, Apple Intelligence was enabled under System Settings → Apple Intelligence & Siri, and the device and Siri languages met the historical requirements. Also allow support downloads to finish and check whether the feature was waitlisted or unavailable in the region.
Apps stopped working
Restart the Mac, update the affected app and check the developer’s compatibility notes. If the beta was installed on a critical machine, restore from a backup or move testing to a separate Mac or volume rather than relying on the beta as a production environment.
ChatGPT did not respond
The extension may not have been enabled, the permission prompt may have been declined, or the request may not have qualified for handoff. Network, account, regional and service restrictions could also prevent a response.
Update: the final release arrived in December 2024
Apple released the finished version of macOS Sequoia 15.2 on December 11, 2024. Anyone looking for these features should use the latest supported macOS version available for their Mac rather than search for the obsolete 24C5089c beta. The final version remained subject to Apple Intelligence hardware, language, regional and feature-specific availability requirements.
