The clearest Black Friday 2024 MacBook Pro M4 deal cut the 14-inch base model from its $1,599 launch price to $1,399.99—a saving of $199.01, or about 12.4%. The discount applied to a specific configuration: the base M4 chip, 16GB of unified memory, and a 512GB SSD. Selected M4 Pro and 16-inch models were also discounted, but there was no single price cut covering the entire range.
This is a historical deal report, not a current offer. Black Friday 2024 fell on November 29, and Apple has since moved beyond the M4 generation.
The headline deal: $199 off the 14-inch M4
The best-documented deal was for the 14-inch MacBook Pro with the base M4 chip, 16GB unified memory, and 512GB SSD. Retailers including Amazon reported a price of $1,399.99, compared with Apple’s $1,599 U.S. launch price.

That worked out to a reduction of $199.01, or approximately 12.4%. MacRumors reported the price as a new or all-time low for the configuration, while 9to5Mac’s Black Friday Week coverage corroborated the $1,399 price.

Apple announced the M4 MacBook Pro on October 30, 2024, only weeks before the promotion. That made the retailer discount notable: this was a current-generation premium laptop, not an older model being cleared out.

Tom’s Guide reported an M4 Pro 14-inch configuration around $1,749, down from approximately $1,999. The 16-inch range had its own pricing and discounts, so buyers needed to compare the exact chip, memory, storage, and screen size rather than rely on an “up to” figure.
Did Apple cut the MacBook Pro’s price?
No—the documented Black Friday savings came primarily from retailers, not from a permanent Apple price reduction. Apple’s $1,599 launch price remained the official comparison point for the base 14-inch M4 model.

That distinction matters. A retailer promotion can end when inventory or the promotional period ends without Apple changing its list price. It is also important to separate a normal cash discount from:
- Apple education-store pricing;
- trade-in credit;
- store gift cards or rewards points;
- open-box or refurbished pricing; and
- temporary marketplace offers.
Prices above were U.S. dollars before sales tax and referred to reported retailer promotions. They were not guaranteed to be available at every seller, in every color, or for every storage configuration.
Which M4 MacBook Pro was the best buy?
14-inch base M4: the value choice
The discounted base model was the strongest choice for most buyers who wanted a MacBook Pro but did not run heavily sustained workloads. It offered:

- 16GB of unified memory;
- 512GB of SSD storage;
- active cooling for sustained workloads;
- more ports than a MacBook Air, including HDMI and an SD card slot; and
- a lower entry price than the M4 Pro and 16-inch models.
It was well suited to office work, school, web development, photo editing, and general creative work. The main limitations were its lower performance ceiling compared with M4 Pro and M4 Max systems and the possibility that 512GB would become restrictive for large media libraries. Unified memory and internal storage cannot be upgraded later.

The approximately $1,749 M4 Pro deal made sense for software developers working with large projects, frequent video editors, 3D artists, and users running demanding local workloads. The extra performance could reduce compile, render, and export times.
For ordinary browsing, documents, meetings, and light photo work, however, the extra cost was harder to justify. At the reported prices, the M4 Pro cost roughly $350 more than the discounted base M4. Choose it for the workload—not simply because its dollar discount was larger.

16-inch models: buy for workspace and endurance
The 16-inch models were aimed at buyers who preferred a larger working area and typically wanted the larger battery and higher-end configurations. They were less attractive for commuters because they were heavier and substantially more expensive.
A 14-inch M4 Pro could be better value for someone who needed performance and portability, while a 16-inch model was preferable for long desk-based sessions where screen space mattered more than weight.
Why choose the Pro instead of a MacBook Air?
A MacBook Air remained the better value for light workloads and maximum portability. The discounted MacBook Pro premium bought a brighter Liquid Retina XDR display, ProMotion, active cooling, additional connectivity, and access to M4 Pro and M4 Max chips.

Apple also highlighted Apple Intelligence, a 12MP Center Stage camera, a nano-texture display option, and Thunderbolt 5 on supported configurations. Thunderbolt 5 was not available on every M4 MacBook Pro, so buyers needed to check the chip tier and model before assuming it was included. Apple’s launch announcement lists the relevant features and configurations.

- Confirm the exact configuration. A $1,399.99 listing meant the 14-inch base M4 with 16GB memory and 512GB storage—not every M4 MacBook Pro.
- Check who is selling it. On Amazon and other marketplaces, distinguish retailer-sold inventory from an unfamiliar third-party merchant.
- Verify condition and warranty. Confirm that the laptop is new rather than refurbished or open-box, and check regional warranty coverage.
- Review returns and price adjustments. A later lower price would not necessarily trigger an automatic refund.
- Check color and availability. Silver and space black inventory could differ, and sale stock could disappear quickly.
- Add ownership costs separately. Sales tax, AppleCare+, docks, and external storage were not part of the headline discount.
Buyers should compare Amazon, Best Buy, B&H, and other authorized sellers, while checking the final checkout price and policy. Apple’s MacBook Pro store was useful for confirming official configurations, but shoppers should not assume Apple would match a retailer promotion.
Should shoppers have bought immediately or waited?
For the 2024 holiday season, buying the base 14-inch M4 at approximately $1,399.99 was reasonable if the buyer needed a laptop during the holidays and the exact configuration fit the workload. The deal was already strong for a machine launched only weeks earlier.
Waiting made more sense when the buyer needed more than 512GB of storage, a specific memory configuration, an M4 Pro or 16-inch model, or a particular color that was not discounted. Waiting was also sensible for anyone eligible for education pricing or an employer purchasing program if those alternatives produced a better total price.
Alternatives worth considering
- MacBook Air: Better for light productivity and portability, but with a less capable display, fewer ports, and no active cooling.
- Older M3 MacBook Pro: Potentially attractive if substantially cheaper, provided its memory, storage, condition, and warranty compare favorably.
- Refurbished MacBook Pro: Can reduce the price, but inspect battery health, condition, warranty duration, and return terms.
- Mac mini: A lower-cost desktop option for buyers who already own a display, keyboard, mouse, webcam, and speakers.
- Windows creator laptop: May offer upgradeable components or stronger discrete graphics per dollar, but with different software compatibility, battery-life, noise, and ecosystem trade-offs.
How this deal should be described today
As of August 18, 2026, the $1,399.99 price should be treated as an archived Black Friday 2024 deal, not a live offer. Apple has since introduced MacBook Pro models using M5 Pro and M5 Max chips, so the M4 is no longer the current MacBook Pro generation.
