The Logitech K780 keyboard and M720 Triathlon mouse still make a useful multi-device office setup, but they are best bought at a discount. Their three-device switching, quiet full-size keyboard, tablet cradle, comfortable right-handed mouse and replaceable batteries remain practical. Their age shows in the K780’s lack of backlighting, the M720’s AA battery and older receiver technology, and the fact that you switch the keyboard and mouse separately.
Verdict: Buy the pair if you want affordable, straightforward switching among up to three devices and do not need modern extras. Choose newer hardware if you want USB-C charging, illuminated keys, an ambidextrous or more modern mouse, or greater certainty about current software features.
What this pairing is—and what it isn’t
The K780 and M720 are two separate Logitech products, not a single synchronized keyboard-and-mouse system. Each can be assigned to as many as three devices. The K780 has its own Bluetooth connection and an included Logitech Unifying receiver stored beneath its battery compartment; the M720 can connect using Bluetooth Low Energy or a Unifying receiver. Their similar multi-device controls make them a sensible pairing, but switching the keyboard does not automatically switch the mouse.
That distinction matters in everyday use: moving from a desktop to a laptop means selecting the matching channel on both peripherals. If the keyboard is set to device two while the mouse is still on device one, typing and pointer movement go to different computers. Assign each computer the same channel number on both products to make the routine predictable.

Setting up and switching between devices
For Bluetooth, pair each numbered channel with a computer, tablet or phone, then use the channel keys to move between already paired devices. Logitech’s K780 setup guide explains its three-device setup and receiver storage. The keyboard’s numbered Easy-Switch key is held to enter pairing mode; once the device is paired, a brief press selects that channel. On the M720, use the Easy-Switch button to select a channel and hold it until the channel indicator signals pairing, then pair in Bluetooth settings or through a Unifying receiver. Logitech documents the mouse’s channel, connectivity and specifications on its M720 technical specifications page.
- Choose a consistent channel map—for example, desktop on 1, work laptop on 2, tablet on 3.
- Pair the K780 and M720 separately with each device. Bluetooth is usually the simplest option for tablets and phones.
- When changing computers, press the corresponding channel key on the keyboard and the matching Easy-Switch button on the mouse.
- If one peripheral stops responding, check that it is on the correct channel before pairing it again.
The included Unifying receiver is USB-A, so a modern USB-C-only laptop may need an adapter or hub. Bluetooth avoids using a port, while the receiver can be useful on a desktop without dependable Bluetooth. Unifying is not the newer Logi Bolt system: do not assume a Bolt receiver will pair with either product. For receiver dropouts, try a front USB port or a short extension cable, and move the receiver away from a metal enclosure, hub or USB 3 device. Bluetooth is another option when available.
K780: a quiet, full-size keyboard with a useful cradle
The K780 is a full-size, low-profile keyboard with a number pad, rounded keys and a built-in channel for propping up a phone or tablet. Its quiet, non-mechanical typing is a good fit for shared rooms and conventional office work. The cradle makes a phone or tablet easy to keep in view while typing, though it also makes the keyboard less convenient to carry than a slim travel model.

The trade-off is an older, shallow key feel that will not suit everyone. Mechanical-keyboard fans may find it too soft or low-profile, and its full-size layout takes more desk space than a compact or tenkeyless board. The arrow-key area is another layout detail worth checking against a photograph if you rely on those keys heavily. Most importantly, the K780 has no backlighting: users who work in dim rooms should look elsewhere rather than expect a software fix.
The keyboard uses replaceable AAA batteries, rather than a rechargeable battery. That avoids charging downtime, but it is less convenient for buyers who want USB-C charging. Logitech’s US product listing is a useful place to check current availability and price.
M720: comfortable office mouse, with older-school power
The M720 is shaped for right-handed use and has rubberized grip areas, a thumb-side channel selector, a tilt-capable wheel and a fast-scroll mode. Fast scrolling is useful in long documents and spreadsheets; wheel tilt can help with horizontal navigation. Its substantial body is likely to suit many medium-to-large hands, but it is not ambidextrous and may feel large to smaller-handed users.

Logitech lists the mouse at approximately 115 × 74 × 45 mm and 135 g including its AA battery, with a 1000± DPI optical sensor. That is an office-oriented specification, not a promise of modern gaming performance. The mouse uses one replaceable AA battery; Logitech claims up to 24 months, with actual life varying by use and computing conditions. Treat that as a manufacturer estimate, not a guaranteed ownership result. The battery choice is convenient if you prefer swapping cells to charging, but it is a drawback if you expect USB-C recharging.
The M720 supports three device channels, Bluetooth Low Energy and Logitech Unifying. Its advertised wireless range is up to 10 meters (33 feet), but obstacles and radio interference can reduce usable range. See Logitech’s specification page for the supported connection details.
Compatibility: basic input is not the same as full software support
Both devices can serve as basic input peripherals across a broad range of computers and mobile devices, but the connection method and operating system affect what is available. Logitech’s M720 specification page lists Bluetooth compatibility for Windows, macOS, ChromeOS, Linux, Android and iPadOS, with separate compatibility information for Unifying. The K780 is designed for computers and mobile devices through Bluetooth and Unifying. Platform-specific keys, shortcuts, gestures and custom button behavior may differ; a device connecting successfully does not mean every feature works identically.

For current model-specific connection and OS notes, consult Logitech’s M720 compatibility listing and the K780 setup material. Treat release-era minimum OS versions as compatibility documentation, not a guarantee about every future OS update.

Basic typing, clicking, scrolling and channel selection do not depend on a computer running Logitech’s customization software. Logitech’s current software page lists both products, while older K780 documentation refers to Logitech Options. The company’s software has moved toward Logi Options+, and current support does not necessarily mean every feature behaves exactly as it did at launch. Check the current Options+ compatibility and feature information for your operating system before relying on customization.

Flow is a separate, software-assisted feature intended to move between computers; Logitech’s M720 materials explicitly associate it with Flow and say Options+ is required on Windows and macOS. Do not assume Flow will make the K780 and M720 switch together in every setup. Verify the current Options+ behavior for both devices if coordinated cross-computer movement is essential.

Common problems and quick fixes
- Keyboard and mouse control different computers: Press the matching channel on each device. Keep channel numbers aligned when setting up.
- Bluetooth pairing will not complete: Remove the stale keyboard or mouse entry from the computer’s Bluetooth list, power the peripheral off and on, hold the intended channel to re-enter pairing mode, then pair again.
- Receiver connection drops: Move the Unifying receiver to another USB port, preferably one with a clearer line to the mouse. Try a short extension cable and avoid placing it next to a USB 3 device or behind a metal desktop.
- USB-C laptop has no receiver port: Use Bluetooth or a USB-C-to-USB-A adapter or hub.
- Mouse becomes unreliable: Check the AA battery, selected channel and receiver position before assuming the sensor or device has failed.
- Customization is missing: Confirm your OS, product and current Logitech software version support the feature. Basic input can work even when advanced software options do not.
Should you buy the K780 and M720 in 2026?
Buy the pair at a meaningful discount if three-device access is the priority, you want a full-size quiet keyboard and tablet cradle, and the M720’s right-handed shape suits you. Replaceable batteries can be a plus for people who would rather swap cells than manage charging. The main value argument is practical utility, not cutting-edge hardware.
Skip or compare newer devices if the combined price approaches newer alternatives, or if you need backlighting, rechargeable USB-C power, a more modern mouse shape or sensor, a left-handed design, or one-button synchronized switching. Logitech’s keyboard catalog lists choices such as the illuminated MX Keys S and smaller MX Keys Mini; the mouse catalog includes the more premium rechargeable MX Master 3S. Those models cost more and solve different problems, so compare the features you will actually use rather than treating them as direct replacements.
The K780 alone makes sense if its cradle, full-size layout and quiet typing matter more than modern charging or lighting. The M720 alone is a reasonable option if you specifically want its large right-handed shape, fast scroll wheel and three-device mouse switching. Either way, confirm current pricing and software compatibility before buying: the products are still listed by Logitech, but listing is not a promise of indefinite stock or future feature support.
