LMC 8.4 is an unofficial Google Camera modification that can work on some Samsung Galaxy phones, but there is no one APK or XML file that suits every model. Compatibility depends on the exact phone and chipset, Android and One UI versions, the package variant, and which camera capabilities Samsung exposes to third-party apps. Treat it as an optional still-photo app to test alongside Samsung Camera—not a guaranteed upgrade or replacement.
What is LMC 8.4?
LMC 8.4 is a community-developed GCam port associated with developer Hasli. It is not an official Google Camera app, a Samsung app, or a system-camera replacement. The Hasli download index lists LMC 8.4 R17 builds, including package variants associated with Samsung devices; its description says the port is based heavily on Shamim’s SGCam 8.4. Check the LMC 8.4 downloads and package listings.
The APK is the app itself. An optional XML file is a set of settings—such as processing choices and camera selections—loaded into the app. Both matter: the wrong APK may fail to expose a camera, while an XML tuned for another phone or chipset can cause crashes or poor results.
People try GCam ports for a different computational-photography look, configurable HDR and low-light processing, and controls that may not be available in their usual camera interface. Depending on the phone and build, LMC may offer manual controls, RAW/DNG capture, or access to auxiliary lenses. These are possibilities, not promises: LMC changes software processing, not the phone’s sensors, optical zoom, or stabilization hardware.

Does LMC 8.4 work on Samsung phones?
Sometimes, but compatibility is model-specific. A Galaxy model name alone is not enough to choose a build: phones with the same commercial name can use different processors in different markets, and Camera2 support and camera access can also vary by model and software version.
Snapdragon and Exynos versions may need different APKs or XML files. A configuration made for the Snapdragon version of a phone should not be assumed to work on its Exynos counterpart. Exynos support is more variable, but neither chipset guarantees success or failure. Hasli’s listings and config pages distinguish package variants and include Samsung- and chipset-specific entries. Look for matching Hasli configurations and check the other config listings.
Android’s Camera2 framework reports camera hardware levels such as LEGACY, LIMITED, FULL, and LEVEL_3, along with capabilities for individual cameras. In broad terms, higher levels offer wider support; for example, FULL adds per-frame manual control, while LEVEL_3 adds RAW capture and additional stream configurations. Those labels do not guarantee that every GCam feature works: the phone, its camera implementation, and the port all have to support the feature. Phones with active community support and a configuration for the exact model are the most promising candidates. Hasli’s listings include Samsung entries—for example, a Galaxy S20 Ultra Exynos profile and other Samsung models—but a listing is not a guarantee that every feature works on every software update. Budget phones with limited Camera2 support, very new models, and recent One UI releases without a settled configuration carry more uncertainty.
Check your phone before installing
- Record the exact model number. Open Settings → About phone. Note the model number, not just “Galaxy S23” or another family name.
- Identify the chipset. Check the exact model’s specifications or use a reputable device-information app. Do not infer Snapdragon or Exynos from the family name alone.
- Inspect Camera2 capabilities. A camera-capability checker from a trusted app source can show hardware level, RAW support, manual controls, and camera IDs. Check the rear cameras and selfie camera separately where possible. Android documents how to enumerate camera characteristics and logical multi-camera devices: camera enumeration and multi-camera behavior.
- Find a configuration for the exact combination. Look for your model, chipset, and—if specified—Android or One UI version in the Hasli config listings. A config for a related phone is not automatically a good match.
- Choose the APK recommended for that phone. Start with a Samsung-compatible package named by the device-specific instructions rather than installing several variants at random.
If there is no credible, model-specific guidance, or if you need every lens and video mode to work reliably, Samsung Camera is the safer default.
Which LMC 8.4 APK variant should you use?
Hasli’s download page lists multiple APK package identities, including Samsung-associated names such as com.samsung.android.ruler and com.samsung.android.scan3d, as well as variants commonly labelled _snapcam and _qcamera3. Package identity can affect how Android installs the app and, on some phones, which cameras the port can see. It is not a universal chipset-to-suffix formula. Start with the Samsung-compatible variant specified for your exact device or config. If the main camera works but an ultrawide or telephoto camera is missing, try another variant only if device-specific instructions recommend it. Installing unrelated variants can leave duplicate app icons and make it harder to tell which settings or permissions belong to which build.
Install LMC 8.4 and load a configuration
- Download deliberately. Get the APK from a recognized port listing such as the Hasli LMC page. Download an XML only when it is identified for your LMC release and your phone/chipset.
- Install the APK. Open the downloaded file. If Android asks, allow your browser or file manager to install unknown apps for this installation. Revoke that permission afterward if you do not need it.
- Launch once, then close the app. Grant only the permissions needed for the features you intend to use. Camera access is required for photography; microphone is relevant to video with sound. Photo/file access requirements vary by Android release and app build.
- Place the XML in the expected folder. Community instructions commonly use an internal-storage folder named
LMC8.4, often with aconfigssubfolder. The exact path can vary by build, so follow the release or config author’s directions. Unzip the XML first if it arrived in an archive. - Load the XML. Reopen LMC. In commonly used LMC builds, double-tapping the blank area near the shutter button opens the config loader. Select the XML and choose the import or restore option; labels can differ. Community setup examples describe this approach, but it is not an Android-wide standard.
- Restart if needed. If the app asks to restart, do so. Otherwise, close and reopen it if the imported settings do not appear.
Keep the original XML and load one configuration at a time. Once the camera works, change only one setting at a time; changing several processing and camera options together makes problems harder to diagnose.
If the XML does not appear or causes a crash
- Confirm the XML is extracted from any ZIP and is in internal storage, in the folder expected by this build—not just in a cloud location.
- Check the folder spelling and that the file is an XML, not a renamed archive.
- Confirm the XML is intended for LMC 8.4 and your chipset and camera layout.
- If the app crashes after import, clear LMC’s app data to restore defaults, then test the main camera before importing anything again. This removes the app’s settings, so keep the config file separately.
- Try a simpler, exact-model configuration. Leave auxiliary cameras and experimental options off until the main camera is stable.
Test the cameras before relying on LMC
A successful install only proves that the app opens. Test still photos and video separately, and keep Samsung Camera available as a comparison and fallback.

- Still photos: Try the main camera in daylight and indoors, a static night scene, a backlit subject, and a moving person or pet. Check portraits and edge separation, selfies, close focus, and macro behavior if offered.
- Lens access: Test the ultrawide and telephoto cameras individually. Confirm that switching lenses gives a real change in field of view rather than a crop or a failed preview.
- Controls and files: Check exposure compensation, focus and white balance controls, HDR behavior, save speed, output location, and whether the expected JPEG or HEIF file is created. Test RAW/DNG only if the phone reports RAW support and the build offers it.
- Video: Make a short test recording at the frame rate you need. Check playback, audio, stabilization, lens switching, and whether recording stops or crashes. A port that takes good stills can still have broken or limited video.
Compare the same scene with Samsung Camera in similar light. LMC may render contrast, color, sharpening, and noise differently; a more Pixel-like look is a preference, not proof of better image quality. If faces look over-smoothed, highlights clip, colors shift, or night shots show halos or ghosting, try a better-matched config or return to Samsung Camera for that scene.

Use Samsung Camera when reliability, video, fast lens switching, or Samsung-specific integration matters. Try LMC when you want to experiment with still-photo processing and have a suitable device-specific build. If both work, keeping both lets you choose per scene.

The app crashes on launch
The package, XML, Camera2 implementation, or a setting may be incompatible with your phone or software version. Clear app data and launch with defaults. Test only the main camera, then try a configuration made for the exact model and chipset. If it still crashes, uninstall LMC rather than applying system modifications just to force it to run.

The preview is black or a lens is missing
Samsung may restrict that camera to its own app; the package may not expose its camera ID; or the XML may assume a different lens layout. Test the main camera first, then consult device-specific package guidance. Do not root the phone or edit hidden system files just to expose an auxiliary lens.
The photos look worse than Samsung Camera
The config may target another sensor, or its sharpening, noise reduction, contrast, or color settings may not suit your taste. Samsung’s native processing may simply be better tuned for that phone. Try a model-matched XML and compare like-for-like scenes; there is no guarantee LMC will win.
Night photos take too long or look artificial
Longer processing can create ghosting around moving subjects, smooth faces, halos around lights, color shifts, or delayed saving. A static night scene is a better test than people or pets in motion. Use Samsung Camera when you need a quick, dependable capture.

Video fails or lacks stabilization
Still-photo compatibility does not establish video compatibility. Recording can crash, frame rates or stabilization may be limited, and lens switching or audio behavior can differ. Use Samsung Camera for important video unless you have tested LMC on the exact phone and settings.

- Use a recognized source and confirm the package variant before installing. A listing is not a guarantee that every re-upload or mirror is safe.
- Avoid repackaged APKs advertised as “premium unlocked” or otherwise modified.
- Use a reputable mobile-security scanner if you want an additional check, and review permissions after installation.
- Do not grant unrelated permissions. Remove the app if it behaves unexpectedly.
- Keep Samsung Camera installed as your fallback.
