LG’s FOTA (Firmware Over-the-Air), Update Center, LG Bridge and even service-center upgrade services ended for all LG mobile products on June 30, 2025, at 00:00 KST. This tracker therefore records LG’s historical promises and explains what owners and used-phone buyers should do now. It covers LG phones and tablets—not LG TVs or other webOS products.
LG announced its smartphone-business exit in 2021. Its later three-year pledge was a limited, model- and region-dependent support policy, not a commitment through 2026. The company’s current notices confirm that operating-system and security-update services are closed: LG U.S., LG India and LG UK.
Current LG phone update status
No LG phone has a future official update scheduled or available through LG. The June 30, 2025 shutdown covered every LG mobile product and these channels:
- FOTA: firmware updates delivered over the mobile network or Wi-Fi.
- Update Center: the update application built into LG phones.
- LG Bridge: LG’s PC management and update utility.
- Service centers: in-person software upgrades were included in the termination.
LG’s India notice explicitly says OS and security updates became unavailable after the cutoff. A phone reporting “Your software is up to date” now means no update is being offered; it does not mean LG is still maintaining that model.

What LG originally promised
In April 2021, LG said eligible premium phones released in 2019 or later could receive up to three Android OS upgrades. The categories named in its announcement were:
- G series models released in 2019 or later
- V series models released in 2019 or later
- LG Velvet
- LG Wing
Certain 2020 Stylo and K-series phones were described as eligible for two OS upgrades. “Up to” was a maximum, not a guarantee that every regional or carrier variant would receive three upgrades. Delivery depended on Google’s Android schedule, device performance, compatibility, carrier testing and local availability. See the original LG announcement.
LG Korea’s historical support notice listed Android 13 as planned for the Velvet, Velvet LTE and Wing, while warning that timing could change under Google’s policies. That was a plan made during the support period—not evidence of a new Android 13 rollout in 2026: LG Korea’s notice.

Historical LG update tracker
A family name is not enough to determine a final Android version. Model number, country, carrier firmware and unlocked status can all change the result. Use the table as an archive of the original policy, not as a promise of a downloadable update today.

To identify a historical release, record the complete model number in Settings > System > About phone (wording varies), then consult the relevant carrier or regional support page. Treat an old download page as evidence of a past release unless it clearly confirms present availability.
What the shutdown means in practice
No new LG firmware
There will be no future LG Android version, vendor firmware, modem update or LG security patch through the discontinued services. Google Play app updates are separate: an updated app does not patch Android, the kernel, modem or other vendor components.

Legacy pages can be misleading
Cached LG pages, carrier records and user posts can remain online. A carrier listing may document a historical firmware release; it does not reopen LG’s update infrastructure.
Factory-reset risk
LG warns that it no longer provides application updates. After initialization, a deleted default LG application may not be downloadable again. Before resetting, back up photos, contacts, messages and authentication data, and verify that essential apps can still be installed and used. LG’s termination notice contains this warning: official notice.
Can an unsupported LG phone still work?
Yes, potentially. LG’s U.S. FAQ says existing phones can continue working with their service provider: LG mobile FAQ. Depending on the device and network, it may still make calls, use Wi-Fi, run installed apps, access Google services and receive third-party app updates.

Functionality is not the same as security support. Unpatched vulnerabilities, eventual app incompatibility and carrier changes are the practical risks. A phone used mainly for calls, media or low-risk tasks may be usable temporarily if it remains compatible with the carrier. Avoid relying on it as the only device for banking, password management, work accounts, two-factor authentication, health apps, contactless payments or sensitive personal data.
What to do before replacing or resetting it
- Back up Google data and files stored locally, including photos and recordings.
- Export or transfer authenticator accounts and passkeys where supported; save backup codes.
- Transfer contacts, messages and any files held only on the phone.
- Confirm that banking, email and carrier accounts work on the replacement device.
- Remove the old phone from Google, payment and authentication-account device lists.
- Factory-reset the LG only after checking the backup and migration.
Are custom ROMs an alternative?
A custom ROM can be an advanced, model-specific option, but it is not an LG-supported update. Bootloader-unlock eligibility varies, and carrier variants may be incompatible. Flashing can erase data or permanently brick the phone. Camera, fingerprint, VoLTE, 5G, NFC, DRM and banking-app functions may fail. A ROM’s stated security-patch date also does not equal official manufacturer support. Consider one only after checking the exact model’s developer documentation and accepting recovery and compatibility risks; do not use generic firmware or cross-model flashing instructions.

Usually not as a primary or security-sensitive phone. LG’s official mobile software services ended on June 30, 2025, so the buyer is accepting an unsupported operating system. A very inexpensive handset may still suit calls, music or experimentation, but verify carrier compatibility, app requirements and the absence of a security-support expectation before purchase.

If you need a supported replacement, compare the manufacturer’s documented support end date, remaining OS updates, unlocked and carrier compatibility, warranty and repair access—not just the handset’s price. Official starting points include Google Pixel, Samsung Galaxy, Motorola and iPhone. Support length varies by exact model and region, so check the individual product policy.
Scope: LG phones versus LG TVs
This cutoff concerns LG mobile phones and tablets. LG TV and webOS appliance update policies are separate and are not affected by the discontinued smartphone-update program.
Frequently Asked Questions
Will LG phones get Android 16?
No. LG’s official mobile-update services ended on June 30, 2025, so no Android 16 or later LG phone update is scheduled through LG.
Can LG Bridge or an LG service center update my phone?
No. LG Bridge, Update Center, FOTA and service-center software upgrades were all terminated on June 30, 2025.
Will my LG phone still work with my carrier?
