The LG 32UN500-W is worth buying in 2026 only when it is genuinely cheap. Its 31.5-inch 4K VA panel delivers sharp text, strong contrast, HDR10 compatibility, FreeSync, and useful built-in speakers. But it is an older 60Hz monitor with a tilt-only stand, no USB-C, no USB hub, and limited HDR performance. At a clearance-like price it remains a good large-screen work and media monitor; near the price of newer models, it is difficult to recommend.
LG 32UN500-W: verdict
The 32UN500-W makes the most sense for home-office users, students, programmers, movie watchers, and casual gamers who want a large 4K display without paying for premium connectivity or ergonomics.
Buy it when the price is substantially below current 32-inch 4K alternatives and you are comfortable with 60Hz, a basic stand, and separate USB-C or docking hardware. Consider a newer model instead when the price approaches the mid-$300 range. Skip it for competitive gaming, serious HDR, USB-C laptop docking, height-adjustable ergonomics, or color-critical professional work.

Availability is now as important as specifications. LG’s U.S. product page directs buyers to local retailers rather than publishing a current direct price, while an indexed Best Buy listing showed a $244.99 clearance price but was unavailable when checked. Bottom line: this is a good inexpensive 32-inch 4K monitor, not a modern all-purpose monitor. Its value comes from size, resolution, and VA contrast—not HDR, gaming speed, or connectivity.

Is 32-inch 4K a good size?
For productivity, 32-inch 4K is a useful compromise between workspace and readability. The panel provides enough room for two documents, a spreadsheet beside a browser, a large coding window, or a video-editing timeline. At roughly 140 pixels per inch, text and images are sharp without making the physical interface as small as it would be on a 27-inch 4K monitor.
Windows users may prefer 100% or 125% scaling depending on eyesight and viewing distance. macOS users will commonly choose a scaled mode that behaves like a lower-resolution desktop while retaining the sharpness of the 4K panel. Scaling is preferable to lowering the monitor’s actual resolution, which can make text softer.
The size also has costs. A 32-inch 16:9 display needs a reasonably deep, stable desk, and users on shallow desks may need to move their chair farther back or turn their head more often. Tom’s Hardware similarly noted that the screen needs sufficient distance to take in comfortably. It is excellent for large canvases and immersive video, but not automatically better for every small desk.
Picture quality
Sharp 4K detail and strong contrast
The strongest image-quality argument is the combination of 4K resolution and VA contrast. Text, photographs, games, and high-resolution video look detailed, while the VA panel produces darker-looking blacks than many inexpensive IPS displays.
LG rates the monitor at 3,000:1 contrast and 350 nits typical brightness. Tom’s Hardware measured 2,353:1 contrast and 375.4 nits on its review sample. Those independent results are useful context, but they are not guarantees for every unit or regional panel.

VA viewing angles are nominally wide, but contrast and gamma can change as you move off-axis. On a screen this large, that effect can be more noticeable toward the edges when viewed from close range.
Color is adequate, not professional
LG regional material advertises 90% DCI-P3 coverage. That indicates a potentially broad color gamut, but gamut coverage is not the same as color accuracy, calibration, uniformity, or professional certification.
Tom’s Hardware measured an average gamma of 1.9 against a preferred 2.2 target, with visible grayscale tracking issues. Its reported grayscale error was 2.84 Delta E, while native DCI-P3 color accuracy measured 2.1 Delta E on the tested sample. These are historical results from one unit, not a promise about every panel.

In practical use, the monitor should be fine for office work, browsing, photography consumption, video, and ordinary creative projects. Shadow detail and midtones may not look perfectly balanced, however. For print proofing, color grading, or client-critical commercial work, choose a display designed around factory calibration and color management instead.
HDR10 support is not strong HDR
HDR10 is a compatibility feature here, not a premium picture-quality feature.
The 32UN500-W accepts HDR10 signals, but it lacks local dimming and has only modest brightness. A display can process HDR content without producing the bright highlights, controlled dark zones, and high contrast associated with a good HDR monitor.
Tom’s Hardware found obvious HDR grayscale and color-tracking problems, including blue shifts, and concluded that the monitor did not deliver a premium HDR experience. Depending on the operating system, application, and content, HDR may look flatter, cooler, or less accurate than SDR.
If you buy this monitor, treat HDR as an optional compatibility mode rather than a reason to choose it. Compare HDR and SDR with the same content; SDR will often be the more pleasing setting for desktop use.
Gaming performance
The LG is suitable for casual 4K gaming but is not a modern gaming monitor. Its maximum refresh rate is 60Hz, so it cannot display the 120Hz, 144Hz, or 165Hz motion that competitive PC gamers generally seek.
AMD FreeSync can reduce tearing when frame rates fluctuate within the monitor’s supported operating range. Tom’s Hardware also reported successful unofficial G-Sync operation with an Nvidia graphics card. That should not be confused with current Nvidia certification, and behavior can vary with the GPU, driver, input, and settings.
Strategy games, role-playing games, simulations, console gaming, and ordinary 60fps play are natural fits. A 4K/60 target is demanding for a gaming PC, so the graphics card may need to use upscaling or reduced settings in demanding games. Competitive shooter players should choose a higher-refresh display instead.
VA panels can also show slower dark-level transitions or black smearing, particularly in dark scenes. Sensitivity varies by person and panel. If motion clarity matters, buy from a retailer with a practical return policy and inspect real reviews or the individual unit.

Connectivity includes two HDMI inputs, one DisplayPort 1.4 input, and a 3.5mm audio output. There is no USB hub and no USB-C port. HDMI and DisplayPort are sufficient for 4K at 60Hz when the computer, cable, and adapter support the required bandwidth.

USB-C laptop owners will need a USB-C-to-DisplayPort or USB-C-to-HDMI cable or adapter, assuming the laptop’s USB-C port supports video output. The monitor cannot charge the laptop and cannot replace a one-cable dock. Keyboard, mouse, webcam, and storage devices must connect to the computer or a separate hub.
The integrated two 5W speakers are convenient for system sounds, calls, casual video, and temporary use. They should not be treated as a replacement for dedicated speakers or headphones. Audio over HDMI or DisplayPort is required for the monitor to receive the signal; exact headphone-output behavior can vary by regional implementation and setup.
For consoles, think of the 32UN500-W as a 4K/60 display, not a 4K/120 display.

The stand is one of the clearest cost reductions. It supports tilt but not height adjustment or portrait rotation. The screen may therefore sit too low for some desks, requiring a monitor riser, shelf, or arm.
A monitor arm can substantially improve positioning, but check the exact regional manual for the VESA pattern and confirm the arm’s weight rating. Do not assume every suffix has identical mounting hardware. Rear-facing ports can also make wall mounting less convenient because cables project backward.
The white and silver styling is distinctive and may suit a light desk setup, though it will not blend into every workspace. Because the panel is large, place it on a stable desk with enough depth to maintain a comfortable viewing distance.
Controls and software
A control nub beneath the display operates the on-screen menu. Reported options include FreeSync, HDMI Ultra Deep Color, Reader mode, Color Weakness, HDR Effect, Super Resolution+, Black Level, and Dynamic Fine Contrast. Some controls become unavailable when HDR, FreeSync, or particular signal modes are active.
LG’s U.S. support page showed OnScreen Control for Windows version 9.43 dated March 27, 2026, OnScreen Control for Mac version 7.30 dated June 18, 2026, and Dual Controller versions 2.89 for Windows and 2.77 for Mac dated July 22, 2026. The monitor launched into an approximately $349–$350 price position, but that price should not be used as a current recommendation. It is an older model, and availability now appears uneven. An indexed Best Buy listing showed $244.99 clearance pricing but was unavailable when checked.
A practical buying rule is:
- Clearance or deep-discount price: attractive if the unit is new, returnable, and the buyer accepts its limitations.
- Around the low-$300s: compare carefully with newer 32-inch 4K monitors and better-stand LG models.
- Near the mid-$300s or higher: usually skip unless the exact LG model is the only suitable option or includes a meaningful retailer warranty.
Prices depend on country, retailer, condition, and stock. Clearance, open-box, and refurbished units deserve extra attention to return terms and warranty coverage.

What to check after buying clearance stock
- Confirm the model suffix on the box, invoice, and rear label.
- Test every HDMI and DisplayPort input.
- Verify that the computer can produce 3840×2160 at 60Hz.
- Inspect black, white, and gray screens for dead pixels, unevenness, and distracting backlight or panel variation.
- Test the built-in speakers and 3.5mm output.
- Check the stand, mounting points, power cable, and adjustment mechanism.
- Keep the packaging until the return period ends.
If 4K at 60Hz is unavailable
Check the operating-system display settings, cable rating, GPU output, drivers, and any dock, adapter, KVM, receiver, or cable extension in the chain. USB-C docks vary widely; not every dock supports 4K at 60Hz.

That is consistent with the monitor’s limited HDR hardware. Compare both modes with identical content and disable HDR for ordinary desktop work if the image looks flat, blue, or inaccurate.
If FreeSync or adaptive-sync controls are missing
Check that FreeSync is enabled in the monitor menu and that the GPU, driver, input, and selected picture mode support it. HDR or another mode may disable related controls. Nvidia adaptive-sync operation, when available, is not the same as Nvidia certification.
If text looks too small
Increase Windows or macOS scaling before lowering the display resolution. Scaling keeps the 4K rendering target while making interface elements easier to read.
Alternatives worth considering
Dell 32 Plus 4K Monitor S3225QS
Dell’s U.S. listings showed the S3225QS around $369.99, with another indexed page showing a $329.99 sale signal. Prices are volatile. This is the more natural choice for buyers who prefer a currently listed product rather than older clearance stock, but compare the exact panel, refresh rate, ports, stand, and warranty before buying. LG 32UN650-W or 32UN650K
The 32UN650 family is a related LG option positioned above the 32UN500-W, with a better stand position in the range. Confirm the exact suffix, height-adjustment capability, ports, panel, warranty, and current price because regional versions differ. Higher-refresh gaming monitors
Anyone prioritizing competitive gaming should look for a verified 120Hz-or-faster model instead. The 32UN500-W’s FreeSync support does not overcome its 60Hz ceiling.
USB-C and professional creator displays
MacBook and laptop users who want one-cable video, charging, and peripherals should choose a monitor with verified USB-C power delivery and a USB hub. Color-critical creators should look for independently verified accuracy, calibration features, uniformity, and workflow connectivity rather than relying on the 90% DCI-P3 claim alone. Specific models and prices should be checked against current product pages.
Who should buy the LG 32UN500-W?

Its age shows in the fixed 60Hz refresh rate, basic stand, missing USB-C, and weak HDR implementation. In 2026, buy it for the screen—not for the feature list—and only when the price clearly reflects those compromises.
