The newest firmware package located for the Samsung Galaxy S8 SM-G950U on T-Mobile’s TMB configuration is G950USQU8DZE3. It runs Android 9 Pie and reports a December 1, 2020 security patch—not a 2026 security update. Samsung lists June 12, 2026 as the release date, but that date does not mean the phone has received a new Android version or current security protection.
Use the phone’s normal over-the-air (OTA) update if it is offered. Consider manual Odin flashing only if you understand the model, carrier configuration, binary-revision, and data-loss risks.
Latest SM-G950U T-Mobile firmware
As of August 18, 2026, G950USQU8DZE3 is the latest firmware package located for the SM-G950U / TMB combination. Samsung’s firmware-notification page lists this build for the Galaxy S8 SM-G950U. Its change description refers to device stability, bug fixes, new or enhanced features, and performance improvements, without identifying a newer Android release. Samsung’s firmware history

The June 2026 listing date and May 2026 build timestamp are unusual alongside a December 2020 security patch. The available listings do not establish why the dates differ from the security level. The safe interpretation is that this is the newest listed package for this model and CSC, while the software remains Android 9 with a 2020-12 security patch. What TMB means—and why the model number matters
SM-G950U identifies the US carrier-model Galaxy S8. TMB is the carrier configuration (CSC) associated with T-Mobile USA. Samsung’s CSC customizations can affect carrier settings and software; a phone using a T-Mobile SIM is not automatically a TMB-configured SM-G950U.
Before downloading or flashing anything, check the model in Settings → About phone → Model number. It must say SM-G950U. Do not assume that SM-G950U1, the US unlocked variant, is interchangeable. For example, a U1 package such as G950U1UEU8DZE2 is a different firmware target, even if the handset is used on T-Mobile. To inspect the installed carrier software, open Settings → About phone → Software information → Service provider software version. Labels can vary by software build. The original CSC, active CSC, and current network may not be identical; inserting a T-Mobile SIM alone does not prove that the phone is configured for TMB. You can also check the model and software identifiers in Download Mode or on the device label and original packaging.

If the phone works normally, OTA is the preferred, lower-risk route. Back up important data, connect to Wi-Fi, and charge the battery. Then open Settings → Software update → Download and install. Menu wording may vary slightly. Install the update only if the phone itself offers it for its current configuration, and do not turn the phone off during installation. Samsung advises keeping the device updated in its firmware notice.

A firmware repository listing does not guarantee that Samsung’s update service will offer the package to every handset. Availability may depend on rollout status, CSC, carrier configuration, region, and whether the software has been modified. If no update appears, work through the checks under troubleshooting before considering a manual flash.
Manual Odin flashing: for repair or experienced users
Manual flashing is not the default way to update a healthy phone. It requires a Windows PC, Samsung USB driver, a reliable data cable, the correct firmware package, and a compatible Odin release. A failed or incorrectly targeted flash can cause data loss or leave the phone unable to boot. Download firmware only from a source you trust, verify the model and package before extraction, and back up first. Samsung’s support page for the Galaxy S8 T-Mobile lists device support resources and a USB driver. A third-party firmware repository is not Samsung’s consumer download portal or an endorsement of its hosting service.
The listed TMB package is about 3.94 GB and contains files for the Odin slots, including AP, BL, CP, CSC, HOME_CSC, and carrier USERDATA. The SamFW package page lists these components. File names typically begin with prefixes such as AP_G950USQU8DZE3, BL_G950USQU8DZE3, CP_G950USQU8DZE3, CSC_OYN_G950UOYN8DZE3, HOME_CSC_OYN_G950UOYN8DZE3, and USERDATA_TMB_G950USQU8DZE3.

SM-G950U, notSM-G950U1or another model. Check the active software provider information as well. - Check the current build and binary revision. The target package is binary 8. Samsung bootloaders generally block downgrades to a lower binary; do not attempt a lower revision or firmware for another model or region.
- On a Windows PC, install the Samsung USB driver from Samsung’s support page. Download the firmware archive from a reputable source, verify it as available, and extract it with a current archive utility.
- Open a compatible Odin release. Odin is a third-party flashing tool; do not treat downloads from unverified mirrors as official Samsung software.
- Power off the phone. Hold Volume Down + Bixby + Power to reach the warning/download sequence, then press Volume Up when prompted to continue.
- Connect the phone by USB and wait for Odin to recognize it. Load the firmware files into their matching slots:
BLinto BL,APinto AP, andCPinto CP. - For the CSC slot,
HOME_CSCis normally the non-wipe option; the regularCSCfile is normally used for a clean installation and may wipe user data. HOME_CSC does not guarantee data preservation, so keep a backup either way. - Confirm Re-Partition is not selected. Do not change partition settings or use files for another device.
- Start the flash. Do not disconnect the cable or power off the phone while the process is running. Wait for Odin to report success and for the phone to reboot.
These are third-party flashing steps, not Samsung’s official consumer update instructions. Do not proceed if the model is uncertain, the binary is too low, the download is unverified, or you cannot afford the risk of losing data. Rooting, custom recovery, or unofficial modifications may trip Knox or affect Samsung services; installing official firmware does not reverse a Knox state that has already been tripped.

Troubleshooting updates and flashing
No OTA update appears
- Confirm the model is exactly
SM-G950U. - Check Service provider software version under Software information; do not infer TMB from the SIM alone.
- Restart the phone, connect to Wi-Fi, charge it, and make enough storage available for the update.
- Check again through Settings → Software update → Download and install. A listing does not guarantee OTA eligibility for every configuration.
- If Samsung desktop support/update tooling is available for the device, you can try it. Use manual flashing only after checking model, CSC, binary, and package.
Odin fails or does not recognize the phone
Record the exact Odin error before trying again. Common causes include a wrong model or CSC, a binary downgrade attempt, a corrupt download, a poor USB cable or port, a missing driver, an incompatible Odin build, low battery, or Re-Partition being selected by mistake. Bootloader or device-state restrictions and hardware faults can also prevent a successful flash. Do not repeatedly retry random packages.
The phone stays on the Samsung logo or boot-loops
Allow extra time for the first boot after a flash. If it remains stuck, stop repeated flashing attempts. If the phone can enter recovery, clearing the cache is a possible first troubleshooting step; a factory reset may erase data and should be a later option. If the phone cannot reach Download Mode or recovery, or the problem persists, seek qualified repair help rather than guessing at firmware.
Mobile data, calls, or Wi-Fi Calling do not work
Confirm the active CSC and T-Mobile provisioning, then test the SIM and network settings. TMB firmware cannot remove a SIM lock, blacklist, unpaid-device restriction, or carrier limitation. It also cannot add hardware bands or guarantee that a carrier will continue supporting an older phone. Samsung lists LTE bands for its T-Mobile Galaxy S8, including bands 2, 4, 5, 12, 13, 25, 26, and 66, but support depends on the network and the specific service. Samsung specifications

Check the phone after installation
The first boot can take substantially longer than a normal restart. Once the phone is running, open Settings → About phone → Software information and verify the Android version, build number, baseband version, service-provider software version, and security patch level. For this package, expect Android 9, build G950USQU8DZE3, and the December 1, 2020 security patch.

Test calls, SMS/MMS, mobile data, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, camera, fingerprint sensor, charging, and VoLTE or Wi-Fi Calling if those services are available on your account and network. Is it worth installing?
If your SM-G950U offers this package through OTA, installing it may address the stability or compatibility changes described in Samsung’s notice. It does not upgrade the phone beyond Android 9 or bring its security patch level up to 2026. If the device is stable and your concern is modern security protection, the 2026 listing date should not be taken as evidence that the S8 has current security coverage.
For a working phone, use OTA if available. For a failed update or repair scenario, consider Odin only when you can verify the exact model, CSC, binary revision, and firmware source. If the symptoms point to a failing battery, charging port, modem, or storage, firmware may not solve the problem; a hardware diagnosis may be more appropriate.
