After U.S. strikes on Iranian nuclear facilities on June 21, 2025, two online incidents drew attention: a leak of records believed to be linked to the Saudi Games 2024 and a claimed distributed-denial-of-service (DDoS) attack on Truth Social. Resecurity reported analyzing the leaked data; Cybernews reported the DDoS claim by the pro-Iranian group 313 Team. The timing connected the incidents to the crisis, but public evidence did not establish that Iran’s government directed either one or that the incidents were coordinated.
What happened, and when
- June 21, 2025: The United States struck Iranian nuclear facilities.
- June 22, 2025: Resecurity said actors linked to the Cyber Fattah movement published SQL database dumps believed to come from the Saudi Games 2024 website. Cybernews also reported a DDoS claim against Truth Social.
- June 23, 2025: Cybernews published its report, “US strike on Iran sends online ripples.”
This is a June 2025 story, not a newly confirmed August 2026 incident. The strikes and the online activity followed one another in time; that sequence alone does not prove a direct cause, common command, or coordinated operation.
The Saudi Games leak
The Saudi Games is a national multisport competition. Its official website describes an event spanning more than 53 sports and involving over 6,000 athletes. Resecurity said the leaked material was believed to be associated with the Saudi Games 2024 website and described it as SQL database dumps. The suspected source is not the same as confirmation that the event organization—or Saudi government systems more broadly—was compromised.
According to Resecurity’s analysis, the reported dump contained thousands of sensitive records, including visitor and athlete information, scans of passports and identity cards, bank-related documents such as statements and IBAN certificates, medical examination forms, IT staff credentials, and information concerning government officials. Those categories are based on Resecurity’s account of material it said it obtained and analyzed; the cited public reporting does not provide an independent audit of every record or establish that every participant was affected.

A database leak can create risks even when no money is immediately taken. Identity documents and personal details can make phishing more convincing; medical information is sensitive in its own right; and exposed credentials can provide a route into other systems if they were reused. Do not seek out or circulate alleged breach files: doing so can further expose victims and may create legal risks.
What is known about the Truth Social incident?
Cybernews reported that 313 Team claimed responsibility for a DDoS attack against Truth Social. A DDoS attack attempts to overwhelm a website or service with traffic so that legitimate users experience slowdowns or an outage. The claim and reports of service disruption are relevant, but they are not the same as independent technical confirmation that a DDoS occurred or proof of who caused it.

An outage by itself cannot identify an attacker. Establishing cause and attribution ordinarily requires technical evidence, such as traffic and service logs, along with corroboration. The available reporting does not establish that the Iranian government ordered or carried out an attack on the platform.
Why these incidents were described as “online ripples”
The phrase covers different kinds of activity, not one verified cyber operation. The Saudi Games report concerned data theft and publication; the Truth Social story concerned a group’s DDoS claim and reported disruption. Cybernews also described online amplification of the conflict by pro-Iranian and other regional channels. Such messaging can turn a technical incident into a wider influence effort, but amplification does not itself prove who conducted the underlying activity.

A sports-event database is a consequential target because registration and accreditation can bring together identity, payment, medical, and contact information for athletes, visitors, staff, and partners. The event’s public profile can also give a leak symbolic value: it may be used to suggest insecurity or embarrass organizers. Resecurity assessed the leak as consistent with an anti-U.S., anti-Israel, and anti-Saudi information operation and argued that high-profile sporting events can offer both valuable data and a platform for messaging.
How certain is the attribution?
Resecurity linked the actors to the Cyber Fattah movement and a pro-Iranian ecosystem, and assessed the leak as aligned with Iranian interests. It also cautioned that activity in the region can be difficult to classify as state-sponsored, state-supported, state-tolerated, or independent. The public evidence cited does not establish direct command responsibility by Tehran.

These distinctions matter. A group’s claim, evidence that a service was disrupted, and evidence that a state directed the disruption are three different things. The Saudi Games leak and the Truth Social claim should be treated as parallel incidents in the same tense geopolitical moment, not automatically as parts of a single operation.

What people and event organizers can do
If you may have submitted information to the event
- Be wary of unexpected messages about Saudi Games participation, travel, accreditation, medical forms, or passport documents. Verify requests through a known official channel rather than following links or calling numbers in the message.
- If you reused a password for an event-related account, change it there and anywhere else it was reused. Use unique passwords and enable multifactor authentication where available.
- Watch relevant bank and identity accounts for unusual activity, especially if you supplied financial or identity documents. Contact your bank through its official app or published number if you see suspicious transactions.
- Do not share leaked files or personal details to “check” whether you appear in them. If an organization contacts you about exposure, use its verified channel to ask what information was involved and what protective steps it recommends.
For sports organizers and their suppliers
- Review access to registration, medical, accreditation, and payment systems; revoke or rotate credentials that may have been exposed, including reused or embedded secrets.
- Check logs and preserve relevant evidence before routine retention processes remove it. Investigate access to affected systems and assess whether linked suppliers or accounts were also exposed.
- Limit who can access sensitive documents, retain them only as long as necessary, and separate identity and medical records from systems that do not need them.
- Coordinate incident response and notifications with qualified security, legal, and privacy teams, following applicable legal requirements. Communicate clearly with affected people without distributing the exposed material.
For organizations planning future events, the lesson is broader than protecting a public-facing website. Registration portals, credentialing tools, ticketing and payment systems, medical-data stores, staff accounts, and third-party suppliers all need appropriate access controls and incident plans. A DDoS response plan should also distinguish a genuine traffic flood from an ordinary outage and preserve evidence needed to determine the cause.
