Yes. On Gmail’s desktop website, open Promotions, select the messages, then click the link to select all conversations in the category before choosing Delete. The extra selection step matters: the first checkbox usually selects only the current page.
Delete all Promotions messages on a computer
- Open Gmail in a desktop browser and choose Promotions in the left navigation. If you do not see it, expand the menu or click More.
- Click the master checkbox above the message list. Gmail initially selects conversations on the current page.
- Look for a banner above the list and click the link to Select all conversations in Promotions (the wording can vary).
- Click the trash-can Delete button and allow Gmail to finish if the selection is large.
Google documents this category-wide bulk-delete process for Gmail on a computer. The second click on the banner link is what expands the selection beyond the visible page. See Google’s instructions for deleting Gmail messages.
Before deleting: Promotions is a category, not a synonym for spam. It can contain receipts, shipping notices, travel confirmations, coupons, warranty details, and other messages you may want to keep. Check the selected conversations before proceeding, especially if Gmail groups multiple messages into a conversation.

If you want more control, search Gmail for category:promotions. You can narrow the results before selecting them, for example:
category:promotions older_than:1y— promotional conversations older than a year.category:promotions -is:starred— results excluding starred conversations.category:promotions from:retailer.example— results from a particular sender or domain.
After searching, use the same master-checkbox, select-all-conversations, and Delete sequence. Review the results first: Gmail’s categorization is not perfect, and a conversation may include several messages. Search refinements can reduce the chance of deleting something useful, but they do not guarantee that every result is expendable.

If you want to keep mail but clear it from the Inbox, choose Archive instead of Delete. To preserve a particular message in a long thread, open the conversation and act on the individual message rather than selecting the whole conversation.
What happens when you delete them?
Deleted messages go to Trash first. You can generally recover them for up to 30 days by finding them in Trash and moving them back to your Inbox or another label. After 30 days, Gmail permanently deletes them. If you are sure you do not need the messages, open Trash and choose Empty Trash now to remove them sooner; treat that as permanent. Can you do it in the Gmail mobile app?
Google’s documented workflow for selecting every conversation in a category is for Gmail on a computer. The Android and iOS apps may let you select multiple messages, but the controls can differ by app version and account, and may not offer the same desktop-style select-all banner. For a one-step cleanup of the entire category, use Gmail in a desktop browser.
Stop new promotional mail from arriving
Deleting existing mail does not unsubscribe you. To stop a legitimate mailing list, open one of its messages and use Unsubscribe beside the sender’s name, then confirm. Some senders direct you to their website, and an unsubscribe request can take several days to take effect. One sender may also operate more than one list. Google’s unsubscribe help page describes the process.
Gmail may also show Manage subscriptions under More in the left navigation. If it is available in your account, review the listed senders and use Unsubscribe beside ones you no longer want. The feature is rolling out gradually, so it may not appear for everyone. Check Google’s current Manage subscriptions guidance.

Blocking is different: blocking a sender sends future messages to Spam; it does not necessarily remove you from that sender’s mailing list. For suspicious or deceptive messages, report spam or phishing rather than clicking an unsubscribe link.

If your goal is freeing Google storage
Deleting Promotions mail may help, but the amount of space freed depends on the size of the messages and attachments. Mail remains in Trash until it is removed permanently, so empty Trash only when you are confident you will not need to recover anything. Google storage is shared across Gmail, Drive, and Photos; if your account remains full, check those services too. Google One explains shared storage and available plans. You do not need a paid cleanup service to delete a Gmail category in bulk.
