No—the Samsung Galaxy S23+ is water-resistant, not waterproof. It has an IP68 rating, which Samsung describes as protection in up to 1.5 meters of fresh water for up to 30 minutes under laboratory conditions. That is a test limit, not a recommendation for swimming or underwater photography, and it does not guarantee protection from every spill or immersion.
What IP68 means on the Galaxy S23+
Samsung lists the Galaxy S23+ as IP68-rated. In Samsung’s stated test, the phone was immersed in up to 1.5 meters of fresh water for up to 30 minutes. The rating indicates substantial resistance under those controlled conditions; it does not mean the phone is sealed against water indefinitely or in every situation. Samsung advises against using the phone at the beach or in a pool. Samsung’s S23-series announcement describes the test and its limitations.
In practical terms, light rain, a brief splash, or an accidental short fall into shallow fresh water is generally a lower-risk exposure for an intact phone. It is still not guaranteed to survive. Depth, time, impact, water movement, residue, and the phone’s condition can all change the outcome. The Galaxy S23 and S23 Ultra also carry IP68 ratings, but matching ratings do not guarantee matching results for individual phones.

Salt water, chlorinated pool water, sugary drinks, soap, and other liquids are not equivalent to fresh water. Salt and residue can be corrosive or conductive, and contaminants may remain after the liquid evaporates. If such a liquid gets on the phone, Samsung advises rinsing residue with still fresh water and then drying the device. What to do if your S23+ gets wet
- Remove it from the liquid promptly and disconnect any cable or accessory.
- Remove the case and wipe the outside with a clean, dry, soft cloth.
- If it was exposed to salt water, pool water, a sugary drink, or another contaminant, gently rinse residue from the exterior with still fresh water, then wipe it dry.
- Let the USB-C port dry naturally with the port facing downward. Do not connect a charger while the port is wet.
- If the phone behaves abnormally after substantial exposure, turn it off and seek help from Samsung or an authorized service center.
- Watch for persistent charging problems, distorted speakers, screen flicker, or overheating. These symptoms warrant service even if the phone still turns on.
Do not use a hair dryer, heat gun, oven, or other high-heat source. Do not insert cotton swabs, paper, metal, or tools into the USB-C port, and do not shake the phone aggressively. A phone that powers on is not necessarily free of liquid damage; problems can appear later.
What the USB moisture warning means
A water-drop or moisture warning means the phone has detected moisture or conductive contamination in the USB-C port and may block or restrict wired charging. Unplug the cable and allow the port to dry naturally. Try wired charging again only after the warning disappears; do not keep reconnecting a charger to bypass it. Samsung does not give one drying time that applies to every exposure, so avoid relying on a fixed wait period.
If the warning remains when the port looks dry, debris, residue, or port damage may be involved. Seek service if it persists. Wireless charging may be an option only when the phone’s exterior is dry and it is otherwise working normally; it is not a way to rule out or bypass internal water damage.

Can water resistance wear out?
Yes. Samsung says water and dust resistance can diminish over time with normal wear. Chips or cracks in the screen or rear glass, a bent frame, a hard impact, separation around a panel, or a previous repair can also compromise protection. An older or refurbished S23+ with an unknown history deserves particular caution. Samsung does not specify a fixed number of months or years after which the rating expires, so age alone cannot tell you whether a particular phone remains sealed. Samsung’s support guidance covers wear and damage to water resistance.
Does a case make the S23+ waterproof?
An ordinary protective case does not make the phone safe to submerge. A shock-resistant case can help prevent drops and cracks, indirectly helping preserve the phone’s original resistance; it may also reduce exposure to light splashes. For swimming, boating, or planned underwater photography, use a pouch or housing whose manufacturer explicitly specifies an immersion rating, depth limit, duration, and closure procedure. Follow those instructions, and check that it fits the S23+.
Samsung Care+ is a separate repair-cost consideration, not added water protection. Whether accidental liquid damage is covered depends on the plan, country, device eligibility, and terms. The IP68 rating itself is not a promise of free repair. Check the current warranty and protection-plan terms for your region at Samsung Care+ before relying on coverage.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I use the Galaxy S23+ in the rain?
Light rain is generally a lower-risk exposure for an intact phone, but IP68 is not a guarantee. Wipe it dry afterward and avoid charging until the USB-C port is dry.
Can I take the Galaxy S23+ in the shower?
It is best not to. Shower spray, steam, heat, and soap are outside Samsung’s fresh-water immersion test conditions.

Can I use the S23+ in a pool or ocean?
Samsung advises against beach or pool use. Its IP68 test is for fresh water, not seawater or chlorinated water.
Can I take underwater pictures with the S23+?
Not without separate, properly immersion-rated protection. IP68 does not make the phone an underwater camera.
What if the moisture warning will not disappear?
Keep the cable unplugged and let the port dry naturally. If the warning persists, or the phone has charging or other problems, contact Samsung or an authorized service center.
Is a used Galaxy S23+ still water-resistant?
It may be, but you cannot assume so. Age, impacts, cracks, and prior repairs can reduce resistance, and an unknown history makes the condition difficult to judge.
