In the United States, do not assume that The Protégé is currently free to watch on Tubi. Tubi has a listing for the 2021 action thriller, but its regional page currently says “content unavailable.” U.S. availability data checked on July 31, 2026, also did not show a free Tubi option. Availability varies by country, however: the Canadian listing has shown the film as free with ads.

Make sure you have the right movie
The relevant title is the 2021 action, crime and mystery thriller directed by Martin Campbell and written by Richard Wenk. It stars Maggie Q as Anna, alongside Michael Keaton and Samuel L. Jackson. The film runs for approximately 109–110 minutes and is rated R in the United States.
Its story follows Anna, a highly trained assassin who seeks revenge after her mentor, Moody, is murdered. Tubi also lists a separate 2015 Canadian drama called The Protégé. That film is approximately 80–81 minutes long and has a different cast and director. Search results can therefore be misleading.

Use the year, cast and runtime to identify the 2021 thriller—not the shorter 2015 drama.
How to check whether Tubi can play it in your area
- Open Tubi in a browser or launch the Tubi app.
- Search for The Protégé.
- Confirm that the result says 2021 and features Maggie Q, Michael Keaton or Samuel L. Jackson.
- Look for an active play button. A page that says “content unavailable,” “remind me” or lacks a play option is not currently playable in your region.
The official Tubi page for the 2021 film exists, but the indexed regional page currently reports that its content is unavailable. A catalog page is not proof that a movie can be watched; licensing can expire while an old URL remains indexed.

Is Tubi really free?
Tubi’s service is free and legal, but it is supported by advertising. There is no subscription fee for the free service, and Tubi says it does not require credit-card information for viewing. Tubi also says it does not currently offer an ad-free viewing option.
Tubi does not always require an account to begin using the service, but some titles, devices or playback experiences may prompt you to create or sign in to a free account. Requirements can vary by platform.
Why Tubi availability differs by country
Streaming rights are negotiated territory by territory. The U.S. listing on JustWatch, checked July 31, 2026, showed subscription availability through Amazon Prime Video and the Starz Apple TV Channel, but no free streaming option. The Canadian listing, by contrast, reported The Protégé as free with ads on Tubi.
That Canadian result should not be treated as evidence that the movie is available on Tubi in the United States—or anywhere else. Your local Tubi app is the final practical check.

Tubi supports web browsers and devices including Roku, Apple TV, Amazon Fire TV, Xbox, PlayStation, Samsung Smart TVs, Sony Smart TVs, Android and iOS. If the 2021 film appears available but will not play:

- Update the Tubi app or try a supported browser.
- Sign in or create a free account if prompted.
- Disable ad-blocking extensions, or whitelist Tubi. Tubi’s advertising is part of the playback system, so an ad blocker can prevent a video from starting.
- Check that you are using the correct regional service and that the title still has a play button.
Video quality also varies by service and listing. The indexed JustWatch result showed the Tubi entry as SD, so do not assume that a Tubi stream will be available in HD or 4K.

Legal alternatives in the United States
If Tubi does not offer the film in your market, the U.S. availability data checked July 31, 2026, listed these alternatives:
- Subscription streaming: Amazon Prime Video and the Starz Apple TV Channel.
- Digital rental: Amazon Video, Apple TV Store and Fandango At Home.
- Digital purchase: Amazon Video, Apple TV Store and Fandango At Home.
JustWatch showed Amazon Prime Video availability through September 1, 2026, but that date is only a time-sensitive listing signal, not a guarantee. Check the live service page before subscribing, renting or buying. The official Apple TV listing is another place to check current rental or purchase availability.
For a one-time viewing, a digital rental is usually the most direct paid alternative. A purchase or disc makes more sense for repeat viewing. Existing Starz subscribers may prefer the channel option, while a new subscription may be excessive for a single film.
The bottom line for U.S. viewers
The Protégé (2021) has a Tubi listing, but the available evidence does not support the unqualified claim that it is now streaming free on Tubi in the United States. Tubi’s regional page marks it unavailable, while Canadian data has shown free, ad-supported access.
Search Tubi for the Maggie Q movie and verify the play button in your own market. If it is unavailable, use the current Prime Video, Starz, rental or purchase listing instead. Do not confuse the 2021 thriller with the unrelated 2015 film, and remember that all streaming availability can change.
