Check Canva’s official status page first: canvastatus.com. Read the overall banner, then inspect the component that matches your problem—such as login, uploads, editing, saving or downloads. Canva can be operational overall while one feature, app, region or identity provider is failing. If the status page is green, compare a private browser window, another device and another network before concluding that Canva’s servers are down.
Check Canva’s official status page
Open https://www.canvastatus.com/ (the alternate domain is https://canva.statuspage.io/). Because availability changes minute by minute, the live page—not a cached search result—decides whether Canva is currently reporting an incident.
- Read the overall status banner.
- Find the component related to the failure.
- Open any active incident and read its latest update and timestamp.
- Check whether the incident is being investigated, monitored or marked resolved.
The page is powered by Atlassian Statuspage, so colors and layout can change. Use the label and incident text rather than color alone.

Components Canva tracks
Depending on the page version, you may see administration and settings, billing, help, homepage, login and signup, media uploads, print and delivery, search, apps and integrations, designs, importing, editing, saving, viewing, sharing and downloading. It also lists offline designs, publishing websites, scheduling posts, Canva AI, and iOS, Android, iPad, macOS and Windows applications.
A green overall banner therefore does not rule out a failed download, upload, login method or mobile app.
Check the incident history
Use Canva’s incident history to see affected services, start and resolution times, and status updates. Times may be shown in AEST, so convert them to your own time zone before judging whether an incident overlaps your work session.

History is useful when an incident has just been resolved, when a similar upload or login failure keeps returning, or when your session is still broken after the banner turns green. “Resolved” means Canva marked the incident resolved; cached sessions, regional connections or individual accounts may still need recovery.

Typical incident stages are Investigating, Identified, Monitoring, Resolved and, sometimes, Postmortem. Recent archived incidents have included access, video downloads, Microsoft-based signup or login, uploads and Canva AI.
Use Downdetector as a second check
Open Downdetector’s Canva page. It groups user reports into areas such as app, login and website, and provides a chart, map and report list. Its signal rises when reports are significantly above the normal volume for that time of day; it is not a measurement of Canva’s internal systems.

Social posts and Reddit can reveal symptoms, but they are anecdotal. A report spike can also come from a regional ISP or browser problem, so do not treat it as confirmation.

Tell a Canva outage from a local problem
- Private window: Open Canva in an incognito or private window. If it works, stale cookies, cached files, extensions, ad blockers or a broken sign-in session are likely. Clear Canva site data and re-enable extensions one at a time.
- Another browser: Test a current Chrome, Edge, Firefox or Safari release. A failure limited to one browser points away from a platform-wide outage.
- Another device: Compare the desktop site, mobile site, Canva app and a second computer or phone.
- Another network: Try a mobile hotspot or cellular data. A work or school firewall, VPN, proxy, content filter, DNS resolver or ISP can block required services.
- Scope of the failure: Determine whether login, the editor, uploads, saving, sharing, downloads, search or Canva AI is affected, and whether every design or only one design fails.
- Account and integration: Permission errors, SSO, subscription access, a shared design, a large or damaged file, or a third-party integration can fail while Canva itself remains available.
Canva includes integrations involving education platforms such as Canvas, the learning-management system. A Canvas integration problem is not necessarily a Canva platform outage.
What to do when Canva says it is operational
- Refresh the page once; restart the app if you are using mobile or desktop Canva.
- Sign out and back in if the session or SSO flow is stuck.
- Try a private window, then a different browser.
- Clear Canva’s cached site data and temporarily disable extensions, ad blockers, VPNs and proxies.
- Update the app through the relevant app store; reinstall only after protecting any local work.
- Try another device and network, then test a new or different design.
- If the history page shows a recently resolved incident, wait several minutes and retry.
- For persistent failures, use the Canva Help Center. Canva’s guidance for unresponsive Canva AI also recommends checking the connection, refreshing or restarting, clearing cache and trying another browser or device.
These are diagnostic steps, not guarantees. A green page can lag behind a small regional incident or a provider-specific failure.
What to do during a confirmed outage
- Do not repeatedly submit the same upload, form or payment.
- Avoid constant refreshing while editing if unsaved changes may be at risk.
- Save local exports or screenshots when the interface still permits it.
- Record the affected feature, exact error, device, network and time zone.
- Follow the incident updates and retry when the status changes to Monitoring or Resolved.
- If a deadline cannot move, use a previously exported Canva file or a temporary tool such as PowerPoint, Google Slides, Figma, Adobe Express or Google Drawings. These are workflow fallbacks, not automatically equivalent replacements for Canva’s templates, brand controls, collaboration or export formats.
A cached page or open app does not prove that cloud saving, sharing, uploads or downloads are working.

Why can I open Canva but not save or download?
Saving and downloading are separate components; they can fail while the homepage and editor remain available.
