There is no confirmed Apple product called “iPhone V Folding Prototype.” The phrase is best treated as an unofficial label—possibly for a concept, dummy model, or image of a partly opened phone—not as an Apple model name. Current rumors about Apple’s first foldable iPhone more often call it “iPhone Fold” or “iPhone Ultra.” Apple has not announced a foldable iPhone or listed one for sale.
What does “iPhone V” mean?
No credible current coverage identifies “iPhone V” as an official Apple name or a verified prototype designation. The “V” may describe the angle formed when a book-style phone is partly open, or it may simply be a label added to a fan concept, AI-generated image, video, or social-media post. A V-shaped profile does not establish a particular hinge design or show that the device is genuine.

Apple has explored foldable-device technology, including through patents and reported development work. That does not establish that a particular image labeled “iPhone V” depicts an Apple prototype, or that Apple will ship a foldable phone. The distinctions matter:

MacRumors’ foldable iPhone guide summarizes patent and development claims. Rumors have described Apple testing both a book-style design, which opens like a small tablet, and a vertically folding clamshell. The book-style design is the more consistently reported candidate for a first foldable, but Apple has not confirmed either design.
What design and specifications are rumored?
The recurring rumor is a book-style phone with a smaller outside screen for use while closed and a larger screen inside. The figures below are estimates reported in rumor coverage, not Apple specifications. Different figures may reflect different prototypes or stages of development; they should not be combined into a single confirmed spec sheet.

These reports do not establish final dimensions, weight, processor, battery capacity, durability, or whether a crease would be visible. A claim that a display is “crease-free” would not, by itself, prove durability over time. Likewise, software strings cited online as evidence of foldable support would not confirm a retail product without corroboration.

Evidence should be weighed by what it actually demonstrates. Apple has not confirmed a foldable iPhone; claims about its development and features come from patents and reporting rather than a product announcement.

- Patents: Support the conclusion that Apple has explored foldable technology, but do not prove a product is coming.
- Supply-chain and leaker claims: Reports have alleged carrier testing, hinge choices, and production challenges. These claims are not independently verified product specifications. A June 2, 2026 MacRumors report on a liquid-metal hinge is a rumor report, not confirmation from Apple.
- Photos of alleged dummy units: A nonfunctional model can suggest proportions but cannot establish internal hardware or final design. Coverage of purported leaked models, such as this Tom’s Guide report, should be read with that limitation in mind.
- Renders and social posts: Without a credible origin and corroboration, an image labeled “iPhone V” may be a concept or miscaptioned material. Do not treat it as an Apple photograph solely because it looks plausible.
A patent diagram, rumor, dummy housing, and production-ready engineering unit are different kinds of evidence. None should be presented as a confirmed, final iPhone design.

Published price estimates often fall around $2,000–$2,500 in the United States, with some reports centering near $2,300. These are unconfirmed estimates, not an Apple starting price; they may refer to a premium or higher-storage configuration. See the rumor coverage from What Hi-Fi. Should you wait for Apple’s foldable?
Do not base a purchase decision on an image labeled “iPhone V.” If a foldable is essential, wait for Apple to announce a real product and its price, software support, repair terms, and availability. If you need a foldable now, Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold lineup is an official category to compare; it runs Android and will not reproduce Apple ecosystem integration. Current iPhone options are listed on Apple’s iPhone page. An iPhone paired with an iPad mini provides separate phone and larger-screen devices, rather than the convenience of one foldable.
If Apple does release a first-generation foldable, practical trade-offs to assess will include price, folded thickness and weight, display wear and crease, repair cost, battery capacity, camera capability, and app support for new screen shapes. None of those outcomes is settled by the current rumors.
