A18 Pro benchmark results are available, but the chip is not inside every iPhone 16. The iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus use the standard A18, while the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max use A18 Pro. Launch-period Geekbench 6 results put the Pro models at roughly 3,300–3,500 single-core and 8,000–8,700 multi-core, depending on benchmark version, iOS release, thermal conditions, and the individual test sample.

The headline A18 Pro scores

The first credible launch-period results, reported as Geekbench 6 tests rather than Apple-guaranteed figures, were:

Phone Geekbench 6 single-core Geekbench 6 multi-core Geekbench 6 Metal
iPhone 16 Pro 3,354 8,049 32,533
iPhone 16 Pro Max 3,337 8,000 32,702
iPhone 16 (A18) 3,240 7,739 27,529

The launch comparison also recorded 2,974 single-core and 7,519 multi-core for the iPhone 15 Pro. On those particular Geekbench 6 runs, A18 Pro was approximately 12.8% faster in single-core and 7.0% faster in multi-core than A17 Pro.

The small difference between the iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max is expected: both use the same A18 Pro configuration. A few points can change with temperature, battery state, background activity, and normal device-to-device variation.

  • Titanium frame combines strength and lightness, giving the iPhone 16 Pro a premium feel while reducing weight for prolonged daily use. The polished edges and textured back enhance grip and handling, making it easier to use during long calls, gaming sessions, or when capturing photos and videos on the move.

Which iPhone 16 has A18 Pro?

Apple’s specifications identify A18 Pro as a six-core CPU with two performance cores and four efficiency cores, a six-core GPU, and a 16-core Neural Engine. It powers the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max. The regular iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus use A18, with a five-core GPU and the same 16-core Neural Engine.

See Apple’s technical specifications and comparison page for the model-by-model hardware differences. Calling a standard iPhone 16 result an “A18 Pro benchmark” is therefore incorrect.

Why later benchmark results look different

Geekbench scores are not a permanent specification. Later Geekbench Browser submissions show the spread:

  • Titanium frame combines strength and lightness, giving the iPhone 16 Pro a premium feel while reducing weight for prolonged daily use. The polished edges and textured back enhance grip and handling, making it easier to use during long calls, gaming sessions, or when capturing photos and videos on the move.
  • Geekbench 6.4.0, iOS 26.0: 3,386 single-core and 8,490 multi-core.
  • Geekbench 6.7.0, iOS 18.7.8: 3,514 single-core and 8,747 multi-core.

These are individual, user-submitted results, not controlled laboratory averages. Geekbench 6.4 and 6.7 can produce different results, and Geekbench 7 uses a different scoring scale and workload implementation altogether. The current Geekbench device page lists approximately 2,912 single-core, 7,788 multi-core, and 27,789 Metal for the iPhone 16 Pro under Geekbench 7. Those figures should not be placed in the same ranking table as Geekbench 6 numbers.

OS version, thermal throttling, ambient temperature, battery level, background processes, cooling time, and whether a result is a single run or an average all matter. A responsible report should put the benchmark version and iOS version beside every score.

A18 Pro versus the standard A18

Using the launch-period Geekbench 6 results, the Pro model’s CPU advantage was modest:

  • Titanium frame combines strength and lightness, giving the iPhone 16 Pro a premium feel while reducing weight for prolonged daily use. The polished edges and textured back enhance grip and handling, making it easier to use during long calls, gaming sessions, or when capturing photos and videos on the move.
  • Single-core: 3,354 versus 3,240, about 3.5% higher.
  • Multi-core: 8,049 versus 7,739, about 4.0% higher.
  • Metal GPU: 32,533 versus 27,529, about 18.2% higher.

The GPU gap is more meaningful because A18 Pro has an additional GPU core and hardware-accelerated ray tracing. The Pro phones also add a ProMotion display with refresh rates up to 120Hz, Pro video capabilities, a more advanced camera system, and USB 3 transfer speeds up to 10Gb/s. Those features—not a four-percent CPU lead—explain most of the practical difference.

What the scores mean in everyday use

Messaging, browsing and streaming

Both chips are exceptionally fast for ordinary apps. The standard iPhone 16 is unlikely to feel materially slower when opening messages, browsing websites, streaming video, or taking casual photos. Perceived smoothness is also affected by display refresh rate and software; the standard model’s 60Hz screen can look less fluid than a ProMotion display even when the processor is keeping up.

Gaming

A18 Pro’s extra GPU core and ray-tracing support matter more for demanding games than its small CPU lead. Sustained frame-rate stability, heat, game support, and the display are more useful measures than one Metal score. These benchmarks do not establish a particular frame rate for every title.

Video and creative work

Creators may benefit from the Pro camera system, Pro video features, faster USB 3 transfers, higher storage options, and the brighter, faster-refresh display. If you regularly move large footage files or edit on the phone, those advantages can outweigh the synthetic CPU difference.

Apple Intelligence

A18 Pro’s Neural Engine and memory subsystem are relevant to on-device AI, but Geekbench CPU scores are not Apple Intelligence tests. Apple says Apple Intelligence is available across the iPhone 16 range subject to supported software, languages, and regions; a higher Geekbench score alone does not prove faster or broader AI feature support.

Is the iPhone 16 Pro the fastest phone?

A18 Pro has extremely strong single-core results in the relevant Geekbench generation, but “fastest phone” is too broad without matching benchmark versions and test conditions across devices. Synthetic scores do not measure sustained gaming, battery life, modem performance, camera processing, or app optimization. A phone can lead a chart and still feel no faster for routine social-media use.

Should you buy the iPhone 16 Pro?

Choose the iPhone 16 Pro or Pro Max if you specifically want:

  • 120Hz ProMotion.
  • The stronger GPU and hardware ray tracing.
  • Pro cameras, a 5x telephoto camera, and Pro video tools.
  • USB 3 transfers up to 10Gb/s.
  • More storage or demanding, sustained gaming and creative workloads.

The standard iPhone 16 is the better fit for general users, lighter-weight preferences, and buyers who do not need telephoto photography, Pro video, USB 3, or 120Hz. Its A18 already delivers excellent CPU performance. The launch scores do not justify buying the Pro solely for faster app opening.

Bottom line

A18 Pro benchmark results are real and impressive: launch-period Geekbench 6 tests landed around 3,354 single-core, 8,049 multi-core, and 32,533 Metal for the iPhone 16 Pro. Newer submissions range higher, which is why a version-labeled range is more honest than one “official” number. The standard iPhone 16 is already extremely fast; the Pro premium makes sense for its GPU, display, cameras, video features, storage and connectivity—not for a dramatic everyday CPU difference.
