JerryRigEverything’s test showed that the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus survived the creator’s manual bend test without visible structural damage. Scratching the frame also exposed shiny aluminum—but Apple had already specified that the phones use aluminum. The useful takeaway is that these models handled this particular bending demonstration; it is not proof that they are unbreakable or safer from drops.
Which iPhones were tested?
JerryRigEverything published its durability video on September 27, 2023, testing the standard iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus. The video includes display scratching, a flame test on the display, frame scratching and manual bending from the front and back. It does not test the iPhone 15 Pro or iPhone 15 Pro Max.
This was a creator-led demonstration, not an Apple procedure or a standardized laboratory test. The reported results are useful as an illustration of how the tested samples behaved, but the video does not provide calibrated force measurements or a controlled comparison across a large number of phones.
What the iPhone 15 is made of
Apple identifies the standard iPhone 15’s enclosure as aerospace-grade aluminum, with a color-infused glass back and Ceramic Shield front. The iPhone 15 Plus uses the same general construction in a larger body. These are separate parts of the phone: the enclosure surrounds the internal components; the device is not a solid block of aluminum. Apple’s published product details already establish the material, so the scratch test visually corroborated a known specification rather than discovering it.

The Pro models are a different design: the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max use titanium side rails. That distinction matters when interpreting comparisons between them and the standard models.
What happened in the scratch and bend tests?
In the frame-scratch portion, scratching through the surface finish exposed a shiny, aluminum-colored material. During the display portion, the screen reportedly remained functional after the flame demonstration; that is a narrow observation, not a measure of how a display fares in ordinary accidents.

The more consequential result was the bending sequence. According to coverage of the demonstration, neither the iPhone 15 nor the iPhone 15 Plus showed noticeable bending, cracks or shattering when the creator applied force from the front and back. In plain terms, both tested standard models remained apparently intact under that manual bend test.
That result reflects the whole phone, not aluminum in isolation. Frame shape and thickness, glass, adhesives, internal support, openings and the direction and location of the applied force all affect how a phone responds. The demonstration did not measure how much force each phone withstood.

Why the Pro Max comparison does not prove aluminum is stronger
In a separate bend test, the iPhone 15 Pro Max’s rear glass cracked. The standard iPhone 15 models did not show the same failure in their reported tests. This is a notable contrast, but it does not establish that aluminum is stronger than titanium. The phones differ in size, frame construction, glass dimensions and internal design, and the demonstrations were not a controlled material comparison. A larger body may also respond differently to applied force.
The defensible conclusion is limited: the aluminum-framed iPhone 15 and 15 Plus passed the creator’s particular bend test, while a separate test damaged the Pro Max’s rear glass. It is not evidence that the standard models are more durable in every situation.

What the test does—and does not—tell you as an owner
A bend test and a drop test stress a phone differently. Bending applies sustained force across the body; a drop delivers a short impact that may concentrate at a corner, edge or glass panel. A phone can keep a straight frame and still suffer cracked front or back glass, camera damage or hidden internal damage after a fall. Scratches and liquid exposure are separate risks, too, and neither is settled by the bend result.

- Glass: Both front and back surfaces remain glass. A case can help protect edges and the back; a screen protector can help with surface scratches. Neither makes the phone indestructible, and no specific accessory was tested in this demonstration.
- After a hard impact: Check the display, cameras, buttons, charging and wireless-charging behavior. Visible cracks or a bent enclosure deserve attention even if the phone still turns on.
The flame test has little relevance to typical ownership, and the video does not establish controlled drop heights, impact angles, environmental conditions, long-term wear or repeatability across units. Treat “passed” as a description of these samples and procedures, not a guarantee for every iPhone 15.

Repair implications if glass or the frame is damaged
Apple provides an iPhone 15 repair manual covering procedures for parts including the display, back glass, enclosure, battery and USB-C connector, and lists genuine-parts support. Repair documentation does not mean a repair is easy for an untrained owner: procedures can involve safety steps, specialized tools, diagnostics and part-replacement requirements.
For AppleCare+ customers, service is subject to the applicable plan terms, fees and damage classification. The North American terms distinguish screen-only damage from cases that also involve a bent or dented enclosure; frame damage may mean the issue is not handled as screen-only service. Check the terms for your country and plan rather than assuming a particular repair fee or outcome.
The practical verdict
The test confirms visually what Apple already says about the standard iPhone 15: its enclosure is aluminum. More importantly, the iPhone 15 and 15 Plus showed no visible structural failure in JerryRigEverything’s manual bend test. That is reassuring about this specific kind of stress, but everyday protection still matters because the phone has glass on both sides and the demonstration was not a drop test. Think of it as a sturdy frame around a still-fragile glass phone—not an indestructible device.
