The iPhone 14 Pro is a 2022, 6.1-inch premium iPhone with an A16 Bionic chip, an adaptive 120Hz OLED display, a 48MP main camera, and a separate 3× telephoto camera. It uses Lightning—not USB-C—and comes in 128GB, 256GB, 512GB, and 1TB capacities. Apple lists it as compatible with iOS 26.5 in its current compatibility guide, though that does not mean every iOS feature is available on this model. In 2026, most buyers will be weighing a used or refurbished unit against newer alternatives.

Design, materials, and what comes in the box
The iPhone 14 Pro has a stainless-steel frame, textured matte-glass back, and Ceramic Shield front. Its launch finishes were Space Black, Silver, Gold, and Deep Purple. At 206g, it is relatively heavy for a 6.1-inch phone. The listed depth is for the phone body and does not include the raised camera module or a case.

The box includes the phone, a USB-C to Lightning cable, and documentation. A power adapter and EarPods are not included. The cable’s USB-C end is for the power source; the phone itself has a Lightning port.
Display: OLED, 120Hz, Dynamic Island, and Always-On
The 6.1-inch Super Retina XDR OLED has a resolution of 2556 × 1179 pixels (460 ppi), HDR, True Tone, P3 wide color, and Haptic Touch. Apple lists typical brightness at 1,000 nits, HDR peak brightness at 1,600 nits, and outdoor peak brightness at 2,000 nits. These are different measurement conditions: the peak outdoor figure is not a brightness level the display maintains continuously.
ProMotion adjusts the refresh rate up to 120Hz, making scrolling and supported animations feel smoother than on a standard 60Hz screen. The Always-On display can show selected information while the phone is locked. Dynamic Island is the interactive area around the front camera and sensors; it can present alerts and live activities such as calls, timers, and media controls. Apple measures the display at 6.12 inches as a standard rectangle; rounded corners reduce the actual visible area slightly.
Processor and software support
The A16 Bionic has a 6-core CPU (two performance cores and four efficiency cores), a 5-core GPU, and a 16-core Neural Engine. It remains capable for everyday apps, photography, gaming, and video work, but it is not equivalent to newer Apple chips. Apple does not publish RAM capacity in its official specifications, so third-party estimates should not be treated as Apple-confirmed figures.
Apple’s compatibility guide lists the iPhone 14 Pro for iOS 26.5. Compatibility with an iOS release does not guarantee access to every feature in that release; some capabilities have device, language, region, or carrier requirements. Check the specific feature you need rather than inferring it from the iOS version alone.

Rear cameras: what the three lenses actually do

The camera system offers 3× optical zoom in, 2× optical zoom out, a 6× total optical zoom range, and digital zoom up to 15×. The 2× option is not a fourth camera or a separate physical 2× lens: it uses the main sensor. The dedicated telephoto camera is the 3× lens.
The main sensor’s 48MP rating describes its hardware, not necessarily the resolution of every photo. Output depends on settings and format. Features include Photonic Engine, Deep Fusion, Smart HDR 4, Night mode, Night mode portraits with LiDAR, Portrait mode with Depth Control, Photographic Styles, Apple ProRAW, and panoramas up to 63MP. LiDAR supports depth-related functions and low-light autofocus; it is not a general-purpose 3D camera.

ProRAW files allow more editing latitude but take more storage. The ultrawide camera enables macro photography, though results depend on lighting and subject distance. A dedicated 3× camera is useful for portraits and distant subjects, but newer phones may offer different zoom ranges and processing.
Front camera
The 12MP TrueDepth front camera has an ƒ/1.9 aperture, autofocus with Focus Pixels, and a six-element lens. It supports Portrait mode, Night mode, Deep Fusion, Smart HDR 4, Photographic Styles, Portrait Lighting, Animoji, and Memoji, as well as Face ID.
Video recording and the 128GB ProRes limitation
The iPhone 14 Pro records HEVC or H.264 video at up to 4K and 60 fps. It also supports Dolby Vision HDR up to 4K at 60 fps, Cinematic mode up to 4K HDR at 30 fps, 1080p slow motion at 120 fps, stabilized time-lapse, Night mode time-lapse, QuickTake, and stereo recording.

It can record Apple ProRes, but capacity matters: the 128GB version is limited to 1080p at 30 fps for ProRes. Models with 256GB or more can record ProRes up to 4K at 30 fps. Ordinary 4K video support is a separate capability and is not subject to that same ProRes limit. ProRes files can be large, so buyers who regularly shoot or edit video should consider at least 256GB—and often more.

Storage options and usable space
Apple sold the iPhone 14 Pro in 128GB, 256GB, 512GB, and 1TB capacities. Actual free space is lower than the advertised capacity because iOS, system data, and preinstalled apps use storage; the remaining amount varies with software, settings, and installed content.
- 128GB: A reasonable fit for lighter use, but restrictive for large games, offline media, extensive photo libraries, or ProRes work.
- 256GB: A practical starting point for many buyers, especially if they shoot 4K video.
- 512GB: Better for frequent video capture, editing, travel, and large local libraries.
- 1TB: Most useful for professional video workflows or people who keep substantial media locally.
Battery life, charging, and MagSafe
Apple’s comparison material lists up to 20 hours of video playback and up to 16 hours of streamed video playback. Apple materials have also shown an “up to 23 hours” video-playback figure in some contexts, so those numbers should not be presented as interchangeable or as a promise of everyday runtime. Results vary with settings, network, signal, usage, and battery condition. Apple does not publish battery capacity in mAh in its official specification sheet.
The phone supports fast charging using a suitable adapter and cable; Apple’s test used a 20W USB-C power adapter with a USB-C to Lightning cable. MagSafe and Qi wireless charging are supported. Chargers are sold separately. For a used unit, inspect battery condition at Settings → Battery → Battery Health & Charging; the original specification says little about the health of a battery after years of use.
Connectivity, port, and regional SIM differences
The iPhone 14 Pro supports 5G (sub-6GHz and, depending on model and market, mmWave), Gigabit LTE, Wi-Fi 6 (802.11ax, 2×2 MIMO), Bluetooth 5.3, NFC reader mode, GPS and other positioning systems, and Ultra Wideband where available. Cellular bands and SIM arrangements vary by model number and region, so imported phones should be checked against the buyer’s carrier.

It uses Lightning, with USB 2-class wired transfer speeds—not USB-C. Compared with a newer USB-C iPhone, this can mean another cable for charging, slower wired file transfer, and less direct compatibility with USB-C storage or displays.
U.S. iPhone 14 models are activated with eSIM and have no physical SIM card support. Some international versions have a nano-SIM tray alongside eSIM. eSIM requires a participating carrier and eligible plan; carrier rules can also affect roaming and provider changes. Confirm the exact model and carrier support before purchasing, particularly if buying an import.
Safety and other features
The phone supports Face ID, Apple Pay, Crash Detection, Emergency SOS via satellite, MagSafe accessories, and Express Cards with power reserve. Satellite SOS availability, pricing, and terms depend on country and current service conditions; the original launch offer and activation terms should not be assumed to describe current availability everywhere. Crash Detection requires cellular connectivity or Wi-Fi calling to call for help.

It can make sense if its condition is good and its price is clearly below comparable newer models. You still get a high-quality 120Hz OLED, Dynamic Island, a capable A16 chip, a 48MP main camera, a dedicated 3× telephoto, and current listed iOS compatibility. The main compromises are its age, the battery condition of many used examples, Lightning, and the absence of newer hardware capabilities. Do not assume iOS compatibility means access to every new feature, including advanced AI features.

Apple Certified Refurbished inventory and prices change; Apple says its refurbished iPhones receive a new battery and outer shell and include a one-year warranty, but these standards do not apply to every third-party refurbisher. A refurbished iPhone 15 Pro is a particularly relevant comparison if its price is close, because it is newer and uses USB-C. A newer model may be a better fit if you prioritize a longer expected support runway, newer camera capabilities, or USB-C. Choose the 14 Pro when the savings are meaningful and its particular camera and display features meet your needs.

Used iPhone 14 Pro inspection checklist
- Verify the model and capacity: Open Settings → General → About and confirm model name, model number, storage, and iOS version.
- Check battery health: Open Settings → Battery → Battery Health & Charging. Look for maximum capacity and any service warning.
- Confirm it is no longer linked to the prior owner: The phone should be erased and not tied to someone else’s Apple Account. Do not buy a device that cannot be activated by you.
- Review parts and service history: Check for replaced display, battery, cameras, or other components. Poor-quality repairs can affect features such as Face ID, True Tone, camera function, and water resistance.
- Test Face ID: Confirm it can be set up and unlock reliably; a fault can be costly to resolve.
- Inspect Lightning: Check for debris, corrosion, looseness, and reliable charging and data connection.
- Test every camera: Try all rear cameras and zoom steps, autofocus, flash, macro switching, video, and the front camera.
- Check the display: Look for cracks, dead pixels, burn-in, uneven brightness, and touch-response problems.
- Verify SIM and carrier compatibility: Determine whether it is a U.S. eSIM-only model or an international configuration, then confirm your carrier supports it.
- Do not treat IP68 as a guarantee: A used phone’s prior exposure or repairs can compromise resistance; inspect its history and condition rather than relying on the original rating.
