Choose Internxt if you want client-side, zero-knowledge encryption across your Drive by default. Choose pCloud if you value everyday file management, media playback, sharing and recovery features more—and use its separate Crypto folder for files that need zero-knowledge protection. They are not equivalent on privacy by default, so the right choice depends on whether convenience or keeping the provider from accessing file contents matters more.

Internxt vs. pCloud at a glance

Question Internxt Drive pCloud
What is encrypted client-side by default? Internxt says its Drive files are encrypted on the user’s device before upload. Files in the optional Crypto folder; ordinary pCloud storage uses a different encryption model.
Best fit Private storage for documents, personal records and sensitive files. General-purpose storage, sharing, media access and file recovery.
Free tier 1 GB, according to Internxt’s pricing page. Free storage is offered; check the current plan page for the amount and terms in your region.
Media and previews Privacy is the central product proposition; verify that current app capabilities meet your needs. Built-in audio and video playback and a virtual-drive model are prominent features.
Sharing Encrypted sharing is advertised; check current link controls and limits. Download and upload links, shared folders and other link controls are central features.
Lifetime plans Available in 1 TB, 3 TB and 5 TB plan families, subject to current offers. Displayed lifetime options include 500 GB, 2 TB and 10 TB; prices and promotions vary.

The central distinction is simple: Internxt presents its Drive as encrypted by default; pCloud offers client-side, zero-knowledge encryption in a separate Crypto folder. pCloud’s ordinary storage is encrypted in transit and at rest, but that is not the same as a client-side zero-knowledge vault. See Internxt’s Drive description, pCloud’s Crypto description and pCloud’s explanation of its ordinary storage protection.

Encryption: the biggest difference

Internxt: privacy across the Drive by design

Internxt says it encrypts files on your device before they are uploaded, using zero-knowledge AES-256 encryption. It also advertises post-quantum cryptography, open-source software and GDPR compliance. These are provider claims about its product and policies; terms such as “zero-knowledge” or “post-quantum” are not, on their own, proof that every app, feature or operational risk has been independently assessed.

Internxt publishes a technical white paper and a SOC 2 Type II report. The report is evidence about security controls and describes the Drive’s access model; it should not be read as a full independent cryptographic audit of every current client and feature. Internxt’s pricing page outlines the current plan positioning.

Encrypting content before it reaches the service reduces the chance that a file is accidentally left in a provider-readable area. It is a natural fit for identity, financial, medical or legal records, private photos and confidential archives. It does not necessarily hide all metadata: account details, login and device information, traffic volume, file sizes or sharing activity may still be visible to a service. Check each provider’s current privacy documentation for the specific metadata it collects.

pCloud: ordinary storage plus an optional encrypted folder

pCloud’s regular service encrypts data in transit and at rest. Its optional pCloud Encryption feature—also called Crypto—adds a dedicated folder whose contents are encrypted client-side. Files must be placed in that folder to get that zero-knowledge protection; storing a sensitive file elsewhere in the account does not make it Crypto-protected. pCloud describes the distinction on its Crypto page and in its zero-knowledge explainer.

This selective approach can be useful: keep ordinary photos and shared work in regular storage, and put confidential documents in Crypto. The trade-off is that you must remember to move the right files into the protected area, and encrypted files may not support the same previews, search, streaming or sharing workflows as ordinary files.

There is also a recovery trade-off. pCloud’s terms say pCloud does not retain the Crypto Pass and cannot restore it if lost. Keep it securely in a password manager or another safe location. Losing access credentials to a zero-knowledge area can mean losing access to its contents; provider support cannot simply decrypt files on your behalf.

Features and day-to-day use

Sync, virtual drive and recovery

pCloud promotes synchronization across devices, a virtual-drive option intended to save local disk space, offline access, camera-roll and desktop backup, and backup integrations with other services. It also offers file recovery tools. Its standard pricing page lists 30 days of trash history; pCloud separately describes Extended File History, which can extend file-history recovery up to 365 days when activated. Confirm the exact plan, add-on and retention period before relying on it.

Internxt promotes Drive synchronization, mobile apps, backup and file-versioning or recovery-related features. Its exact behavior—such as whether a local deletion propagates, how long versions remain available, and which plans include each recovery option—should be checked in the current app and plan terms rather than assumed to match pCloud. See Internxt’s plan-inclusions guide.

Sharing, media and collaboration

pCloud is the stronger fit if you regularly send large files or manage a media collection. Its materials emphasize download links, upload links, shared folders, password-protected links, link branding and statistics, file requests, and audio and video playback. It also promotes online previews and the virtual-drive workflow. See pCloud’s plan and feature page.

Internxt advertises password-protected and encrypted file sharing. A password on a sharing link is an access control; it is not automatically proof that the provider cannot access the underlying file. If that distinction matters, verify that the specific share remains end-to-end encrypted and review current expiration, recipient and download controls. Internxt’s central differentiator is private storage, not a broad promise of real-time collaborative editing.

Neither service should be selected on an assumption of Google Docs- or Microsoft 365-style real-time co-authoring. If that is essential, verify the exact workflow before moving team documents.

Plans and long-term cost

Cloud-storage pricing changes with region, currency, promotions, billing term and plan. The figures below are price signals reported as displayed on August 18, 2026, not guaranteed checkout prices for every country or a claim about what is available today. Check the linked plan pages before purchase, including taxes, renewal terms and whether a price is promotional.

Plan or add-on Displayed price signal What to keep in mind
pCloud lifetime storage 500 GB: $199; 2 TB: $399; 10 TB: $1,190 One-time displayed amounts; confirm the live offer, region and plan terms.
pCloud Crypto $150 annual or $229 lifetime Separate from standard storage in the cited offer; confirm current bundling and eligibility.
pCloud storage plus lifetime Crypto Illustrative sum: $428 for 500 GB, $628 for 2 TB, or $1,419 for 10 TB Simple addition of the displayed storage and Crypto lifetime signals, before tax or any promotion. Not a current quote.
pCloud Family lifetime 2 TB: $595 displayed (with $890 crossed out); 10 TB: $1,499 displayed (with $2,249 crossed out) Promotional signals for up to five users; confirm current offer and family terms.
Internxt lifetime storage 1 TB, 3 TB and 5 TB plan families Internxt’s own comparison material has cited approximate examples of €380, €580 and €780 respectively; those are vendor-published examples, not stable current checkout prices.

Internxt’s pricing page lists a 1 GB free tier, annual and lifetime plan families, and a 30-day money-back guarantee. Paid plans may include services beyond Drive, depending on the plan, so compare the actual bundle rather than storage capacity alone. See Internxt pricing and its included-services guide.

To compare a subscription with a lifetime offer, calculate the total cost over one year and three years from the live checkout price, then calculate the break-even point: lifetime price ÷ annual subscription price = approximate years to break even. Include pCloud Crypto if you need its zero-knowledge protection. The dossier does not establish stable, comparable annual prices for each capacity, so a universal one-year or three-year winner would be misleading.

A lifetime plan is a commercial service term, not a promise of eternal availability. pCloud’s terms define lifetime as the account owner’s lifetime or 99 years, whichever is shorter. For either provider, weigh export options, service continuity, feature changes, account terms and your ability to retain recovery credentials before paying upfront.

Which one is right for you?

  • Privacy-first personal archive: Internxt is the clearer fit if you want the whole Drive encrypted client-side by default and your workflow is mainly storing and retrieving files.
  • Family photo and video library: pCloud is likely more convenient for shared access, previews and media playback. Choose Internxt instead if privacy by default outweighs those conveniences.
  • Freelancer sending large files: pCloud’s sharing and link-management features make it the more obvious starting point. Test Internxt’s current sharing limits and recipient workflow if encrypted sharing is central.
  • Confidential work documents: Internxt offers the simpler default encryption posture. For a business, validate administration, collaboration, compliance terms and recovery requirements before adopting either service.
  • Media collector: pCloud’s ordinary storage is better aligned with streaming and playback. Putting everything in Crypto may reduce the conveniences that make pCloud attractive.
  • Backup-focused user: Compare recovery retention and backup behavior, but do not treat sync as a complete backup strategy. Keep another independently managed copy.
  • Linux, NAS or command-line power user: Verify the exact current client or workflow on your operating system before buying. Do not assume Linux, WebDAV, rclone or CLI support from anecdotal reports.
  • Lifetime-plan shopper: Test the apps, upload and download representative files, confirm export and recovery, and compare the live price with a realistic subscription horizon first.

Privacy claims, reliability and backup limits

Encryption is one part of security, not a complete verdict. Also consider account security, device security, metadata, recovery procedures, independent assessments and the scope of any audit. “Open source,” “audited” and “post-quantum” describe different things; none alone proves that every current product component is risk-free.

Sync is not the same as backup. A synced deletion or account compromise can affect cloud copies, and recovery windows are limited by plan and settings. Keep irreplaceable files in a separate backup that is not continuously exposed to the same account or device—for example, an offline copy or an independently managed backup system—and periodically test that you can restore it.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

If you want to compare further, Proton Drive and Sync.com are other privacy-oriented services; Tresorit emphasizes security-conscious business use; MEGA is another broad encrypted-storage ecosystem; Filen attracts privacy-focused storage buyers; and Nextcloud offers more infrastructure control if you are prepared to manage hosting, updates and backups. These are starting points, not direct recommendations: verify their current features and recovery models against your requirements.

Verdict

Internxt is the better match for privacy by default; pCloud is the better match for a capable everyday drive. Choose pCloud Crypto when only selected files need zero-knowledge protection and you accept the extra cost and separate-folder workflow. Before committing to either—especially on a lifetime plan—test the features you depend on, understand password recovery, and keep an independent backup.
