Intel announced two senior-leadership changes on January 10, 2022: Client Computing chief Gregory Bryant would leave the company, and David Zinsner would become CFO in a succession that had been planned around George Davis’s retirement. The announcement followed Intel’s CES 2022 presentations, where Bryant had been a prominent executive. It is a historical announcement, not a new 2026 reshuffle.
What Intel announced
The changes involved separate roles and timelines. Bryant, an executive vice president and general manager of Intel’s Client Computing Group, notified the company on January 5 that he intended to resign. His departure became effective January 31. Intel said he was leaving to pursue another career opportunity, but did not identify his next employer or give a more detailed reason. Intel’s SEC filing records the resignation and effective date.
At the same time, Intel named Zinsner as its next CFO, effective January 17. That appointment completed an already anticipated transition: outgoing CFO George Davis stepped down from the CFO and principal accounting officer positions on January 17, remained as an executive adviser, and was scheduled to retire in May 2022. The CFO appointment was not described as an unexpected ouster.
Why Bryant’s departure drew attention
Bryant’s exit stood out partly because it came days after Intel’s CES 2022 events. He had appeared prominently in the company’s CES messaging, and contemporary coverage described him as the vice president who led Intel’s CES presentation. That timing naturally prompted questions about when the departure was decided, but the public record does not establish that the CES appearance caused it or that Intel had concerns about his performance.

Bryant joined Intel in 1992 and held several leadership positions, including general manager of the Asia Pacific and Japan region, before taking charge of Client Computing. Intel credited his organization with delivering consumer and commercial PC platforms such as Intel Evo and Intel vPro. The company’s announcement characterized his departure as a resignation to pursue another opportunity; it did not say he was fired or disclose a disagreement with management. Michelle Johnston Holthaus moves to Client Computing
Intel named Michelle Johnston Holthaus, then executive vice president and general manager of Sales, Marketing and Communications, to lead Client Computing. She joined Intel in 1996 and had held responsibilities spanning sales, marketing and communications, global client-computing sales, the Microsoft global account, channel products, and PC-client marketing and operations.

This was not an instant, one-for-one handover. Intel said Holthaus would transition into the role over the following months and began searching for a new leader of Sales, Marketing and Communications. In the meantime, senior vice president James Johnson served as interim head of Client Computing, effective immediately. Those details are in Intel’s announcement naming Holthaus.

Zinsner joined Intel from Micron Technology, where he had most recently served as executive vice president and CFO. His earlier experience included senior finance positions at Analog Devices and Intersil and a president and chief operating officer role at Affirmed Networks. At Intel, his responsibilities covered finance, accounting and reporting, tax, treasury, internal audit, and investor relations. Intel’s CFO announcement highlighted his semiconductor and manufacturing experience, strategic finance background, and capital-allocation discipline.

The appointment mattered in the context of Intel CEO Pat Gelsinger’s plans to invest heavily in semiconductor manufacturing. A CFO with industry and capital-allocation experience would be relevant to assessing those plans and their financial trade-offs. But Intel did not announce that Zinsner had been hired to cut spending, cap a particular investment level, or pursue a specific capital-expenditure mandate. Those are interpretations, not stated terms of his appointment.

What Intel did not disclose
Intel did not name Bryant’s next employer or explain his departure beyond saying he was pursuing another career opportunity. Its public announcement did not confirm a dispute with management, a performance issue, or a link between his exit and CES. Likewise, Intel’s statement about Zinsner described his qualifications but did not assign him a publicly stated spending-reduction or investment-control mandate.
