The Insta360 GO 3S leak was substantially accurate. On June 10, 2024, leaker Igor Bogdanov, known as @Quadro_News, shared official-looking renders and specifications for the then-unannounced camera. The leak pointed to a GO 3-like design, 4K recording, continued Action Pod compatibility, and a possible 128GB model. Insta360 officially released the GO 3S on June 13, 2024, confirming the central claims.
There is one important qualification: the renders were described as “official” by the leak coverage, but there is no evidence that Insta360 publicly authenticated them before launch.
What leaked about the Insta360 GO 3S?
The June 10, 2024 report from Heyup attributed the leak to Igor Bogdanov, or @Quadro_News. It showed front, rear, and side views of a compact camera that looked closely related to the Insta360 GO 3.

The reported renders indicated white and likely black color options, a familiar wearable form factor, and compatibility with the existing Action Pod. The headline specification was 4K video—an important jump over the GO 3’s cited 2.7K maximum.

The report also mentioned a removed Amazon listing that appeared to indicate a 128GB version. That listing was not definitive evidence of every configuration, but Insta360’s later hardware documentation confirmed that the GO 3S is available with 64GB or 128GB of internal storage.
Pre-launch coverage also speculated about pricing around €450. That estimate should not be treated as an official launch price.
Was the GO 3S leak real?
Yes, in substance. Insta360 released the product three days later, and its official specifications confirmed the leak’s most important claims.

The final product therefore validated the leak as a credible preview, but not every unverified detail surrounding it.
The headline upgrade: 4K video
The GO 3S records standard video at up to 3840 × 2160. The available frame rates are 24, 25, and 30fps—not 4K/60.
Its confirmed recording modes include:
- Standard 4K: 3840 × 2160 at 24/25/30fps.
- FreeFrame Video 4K: 3840 × 2880 at 24/25/30fps.
- 2.7K: 2720 × 1536 at 24/25/30fps, and 2752 × 1530 at 50fps.
- 1080p: 24/25/30/50fps.
- 4K timelapse: 4000 × 3000 at 30fps. Insta360 recommends exporting this through Insta360 Studio for optimal quality.
FreeFrame Video is taller than conventional 16:9 footage. That gives creators more room to reframe a clip later for vertical or horizontal publishing. Standard 4K is more conventional, but it is limited to 30fps. Buyers specifically seeking smooth 4K/60 action footage should look elsewhere.

Insta360 also says the GO 3S uses a new chip with 50% greater CPU computing power than the GO 3 and a new wide-angle lens. These are evolutionary improvements rather than evidence of a completely redesigned camera platform.

The Action Pod is the larger companion unit that makes the tiny GO camera easier to use like a conventional action camera. It provides a screen, physical controls, USB-C connectivity, and a larger battery for extended recording.
The GO 3S camera works with the original GO 3 Action Pod after the relevant firmware update. This is particularly useful for existing GO 3 owners: they can buy the GO 3S camera separately and continue using their Action Pod and most of their existing mounting accessories.
The compatibility does not work in reverse. Putting a GO 3 camera into a GO 3S Action Pod does not turn it into a GO 3S. Insta360 says the new processing and camera features are built into the GO 3S camera itself.
- GO 3S camera + GO 3 Action Pod: supported after a firmware update.
- GO 3 camera + GO 3S Action Pod: the camera remains a GO 3 and does not gain GO 3S features.
- GO 3 accessories: most are compatible.
- Generation-specific accessories: the Lens Guard, ND Filter Set, Dive Case, and Custom Skin are not cross-compatible because of different lens sizes or designs.

The GO 3S keeps the GO-series concept: a very small camera that can be worn, mounted, or detached from its display-equipped pod. The main changes are image resolution, processing, lens design, and durability.

The GO 3S camera measures approximately 25.6 × 54.4 × 24.8mm. The Action Pod weighs approximately 96.3g, while the camera weighs approximately 39.1g. The extra camera weight is modest, but the GO 3S is still designed primarily around portability rather than conventional action-camera ergonomics.
Battery life and waterproofing need careful reading
Insta360’s official hardware specifications quote approximately 38 minutes of camera-only battery life and approximately 140 minutes with the Action Pod. Those figures come from controlled laboratory conditions using 1080p/30, with Wi-Fi disabled and other specified settings.
They are not guaranteed 4K runtimes. Recording at 4K, using wireless features, operating in heat or cold, and repeatedly waking the camera can all change actual endurance. Anyone planning long, uninterrupted 4K recording should treat the Action Pod as an important part of the setup rather than assuming the camera alone will last for the quoted maximum.

The standalone camera is rated waterproof to 10m. The Action Pod is only splash-resistant unless it is used with the appropriate case. The two ratings should not be conflated.

Launch and support materials identified several details that were not necessarily established by the original renders:
- Apple Find My support.
- FlowState stabilization.
- Hands-free point-of-view recording.
- A new processing chip and wide-angle lens.
- 10m standalone camera waterproofing.
- 64GB and 128GB storage options.
- Compatibility with the GO 3 Action Pod.
Insta360’s hardware documentation lists the official release date as June 13, 2024.

Who should consider the GO 3S?
The GO 3S makes the most sense for creators who value a camera that can disappear into a mount, clothing attachment, bicycle setup, or pet accessory. It is suited to wearable POV footage, travel, hiking, cycling, family activities, and behind-the-scenes clips where a larger action camera would be intrusive.
It is also a logical upgrade for GO 3 owners who want 4K image quality without buying another Action Pod. The standalone camera option preserves much of the existing ecosystem, although lens-specific accessories may still need replacement.
It is a poorer fit for users who need:
- 4K recording at 60fps.
- Long 4K sessions without the Action Pod.
- Strong low-light performance from a larger sensor.
- A conventional action camera with a large integrated screen.
- Universal compatibility with every GO 3 accessory.
The tiny form factor necessarily involves compromises in sensor size, battery capacity, heat management, and sustained recording. The GO 3S’s 4K mode improves detail, but it does not turn the camera into a full-size action-camera replacement for every use case.
Buying and safety cautions
The official India-region product page lists the GO 3S Standard Bundle with the camera, Lens Guard, Action Pod, Magnet Pendant, Pivot Stand, and Easy Clip. A displayed price of US$506.99 for the 64GB bundle was observed in August 2026, but the page uses region-dependent currency and availability. Treat any displayed amount as subject to checkout verification rather than a universal price.
Existing GO 3 owners should confirm firmware compatibility before ordering a standalone GO 3S camera. They should also check the generation of any Lens Guard, ND filter, Dive Case, or Custom Skin they intend to reuse.
Finally, Insta360 warns against wearing the camera on the chest with the Magnet Pendant if the user has a pacemaker. Follow the manufacturer’s safety guidance for magnetic mounts and use the safety cord where appropriate.
Verdict
The Insta360 GO 3S leak was a credible and largely accurate preview of an evolutionary upgrade. It correctly pointed to the product’s GO 3-like design, 4K recording, Action Pod support, and eventual 128GB option. The final camera delivered those headline changes while retaining the GO-series wearable format and accessory ecosystem.
Its most important limitation is equally clear in hindsight: “4K” means up to 30fps, not 4K/60. For buyers who prioritize an exceptionally small camera and need higher resolution than the GO 3, the GO 3S is a meaningful upgrade. For users focused on high-frame-rate action footage, long 4K recording, or low-light quality, its small size remains both the appeal and the constraint.
