IKEA announced 21 Matter-compatible smart-home product variations on November 6, 2025, spanning KAJPLATS bulbs, five kinds of sensors, BILRESA remotes and the GRILLPLATS smart plug. Matter is intended to make devices easier to use across supported smart-home ecosystems, but it does not remove the need for a compatible hub or guarantee that every feature works in every app. IKEA says a hub is required; DIRIGERA is one option, not the only one. IKEA’s launch announcement says local sales dates and prices vary by market.
What IKEA launched
The “21” refers to listed products and variations, not 21 entirely different device families. IKEA’s launch list comprises 11 KAJPLATS bulb variations, five sensor variations, four BILRESA remote entries—including two kits—and one GRILLPLATS smart plug. The range covers lighting, sensing, physical controls and power switching.

KAJPLATS bulbs: choose by base, brightness and light type
IKEA lists KAJPLATS bulbs across E27/E26, E14/P45, GU10 and clear-glass decorative formats. The range includes white-spectrum dimmable models, colour-and-white-spectrum bulbs, and clear-glass decorative options.

The announcement describes 11 bulb variations; its clear-glass listing includes multiple formats, so the headline count is best understood as a launch count of listed variations rather than a count of unique designs. IKEA notes that E14 may be sold as E12 or E17 depending on local standards. Match the base and voltage to the fixture rather than assuming socket names are interchangeable. IKEA also says KAJPLATS offers more colour options and a broader light-intensity range than its previous TRÅDFRI range; that is IKEA’s comparison, not independent testing.
What the five sensors do
- MYGGSPRAY motion sensor: Detects movement indoors or outdoors to trigger lights or scenes. Follow the local installation guidance for placement and conditions; an indoor/outdoor label alone does not establish suitability for every climate or location.
- MYGGBETT door/window sensor: Detects whether a door or window is open or closed. IKEA says hub connection enables notifications.
- TIMMERFLOTTE temperature and humidity sensor: Measures indoor temperature and humidity for monitoring or supported automations.
- ALPSTUGA air-quality sensor: Measures CO₂, PM2.5 particles, temperature and humidity, and is designed to work with IKEA air purifiers. The announcement does not establish medical-grade or regulatory measurement status.
- KLIPPBOK water-leak sensor: Detects water and can sound an alert; phone notifications are available through a hub. It detects leaks but does not shut off the water supply by itself.
Sensor readings, notifications and automation triggers can vary with the hub and platform. A device appearing in an app does not by itself establish that all its readings or advanced features are supported there.
BILRESA remotes and the GRILLPLATS smart plug
BILRESA comes in dual-button and scroll-wheel formats. IKEA describes the dual-button remote as controlling on/off, brightness, colour and preset scenes. The scroll-wheel version adds group and scene control alongside on/off, dimming and colour. The launch list also includes colourful multi-unit kits in green, red and beige, with button and scroll-wheel configurations. Physical controls can be useful when a household member wants to operate lights without opening an app or using voice control.

GRILLPLATS is intended to switch suitable lamps or smaller appliances remotely and track energy consumption. IKEA says it can be paired with a remote or motion sensor. The global announcement does not specify a complete electrical-load limit, so check the local product documentation before connecting an appliance; do not assume it is suitable for heaters, motors, compressors or other high-load equipment. IKEA says GRILLPLATS sales start separately, making local availability especially important to verify.
What Matter changes—and what it does not
Matter is a smart-home interoperability standard designed to help compatible devices from different brands work within supported ecosystems. IKEA positions these products for broader cross-brand connectivity. That does not mean every phone can pair directly with every device, or that every platform exposes identical controls and readings.
In practice, support can depend on the device category and features, the smart-home platform and its hub, regional product variant, firmware and software. Check support for the specific functions you need—such as air-quality readings, energy reports, scenes or sensor-triggered automations—instead of relying on the Matter label alone.

Is DIRIGERA required?
IKEA says its Matter-enabled products need a compatible smart-home hub. DIRIGERA is an option, but IKEA also says a hub from another brand may work, depending on the device and ecosystem. That makes “hub required” the useful buying assumption; “DIRIGERA required” is too absolute.

Bridging can help bring existing IKEA equipment into a broader setup, but it does not guarantee that every original feature appears in every platform.

- Check that the product is sold in your market and that its socket, voltage or plug format matches the intended installation.
- Confirm that your chosen smart-home platform supports the device category and the particular features you need.
- Make sure you have a compatible Matter hub or controller. For an IKEA-centered setup, configure DIRIGERA and IKEA Home smart first.
- Start the platform’s Matter pairing flow and use the product’s QR code or setup code when prompted.
- Assign the device to a room, then test its basic function before creating automations.
- For sensors, test the required readings, alerts and automation triggers. For GRILLPLATS, check appliance suitability against local electrical specifications before use.
If pairing or features fail, check that the hub is powered, online and updated; that the product is not already paired elsewhere; and that the phone is on the required local network. Keep the Matter QR or setup code available. Also verify the regional socket variant and whether the platform supports the feature that appears to be missing. An older IKEA Zigbee product may need to be bridged through DIRIGERA rather than paired as a Matter device.
Availability, pricing and who should consider the range
IKEA’s November 6, 2025 global announcement gives no single worldwide price list or universal launch date; it says timing and prices vary by market. It does not establish current U.S. availability or stock. Check the local IKEA site or store for the exact product, price and return terms before planning a purchase.

Buying checklist
- Does the local product listing show the correct socket or plug format and voltage?
- Do you already have a compatible Matter hub/controller, or must you add one?
- Does your chosen ecosystem support the exact readings, controls and automations you want?
- For motion sensors, is the intended placement covered by the local installation guidance?
- For GRILLPLATS, does the local electrical documentation approve the appliance and load?
- Are the product, price and return terms confirmed in your own IKEA market?
