Huawei’s 1TB SSD is real, but the “$32” price needs context. The figure came from a reported South Korean listing for the 1TB Huawei eKitStor Xtreme 200E at 47,500 won on December 30, 2024. It was a local converted price—not a confirmed current U.S. price or worldwide launch MSRP.
The drive is a PCIe 4.0 NVMe SSD with impressive headline specifications, but its QLC NAND, 400 TBW endurance rating, missing heatsink, and uncertain international warranty make it a budget storage option rather than an obvious flagship-killer.
What is Huawei’s eKitStor Xtreme 200E?
The product behind the headline is the Huawei eKitStor Xtreme 200E 1TB, an internal M.2 2280 SSD. Huawei’s official documentation identifies it as a PCIe 4.0 x4 drive using NVMe 2.0.
Huawei lists compatibility with desktops, laptops, and other M.2 2280 devices. Actual compatibility still depends on the host system’s physical clearance, PCIe support, BIOS behavior, thermal design, and warranty rules.

Where did the $32 price come from?
The price came from a 47,500-won South Korean retail listing reported in late December 2024. After currency conversion, that amounted to approximately $32 at the exchange rate used in the coverage.
Tom’s Hardware reported the Korean listing, while GadgetVoize reported the story on December 30, 2024.
That conversion does not mean a U.S. buyer could obtain the drive for $32. An imported purchase could add international shipping, taxes, customs charges, currency-conversion fees, marketplace fees, and return costs. The available evidence also does not establish a current authorized U.S. retail channel or U.S. warranty.

In other words, the accurate description is: Huawei’s 1TB SSD was reported at about $32 in South Korea in December 2024. It is not accurate to present $32 as a current worldwide price.
Why is the drive so inexpensive?
The low price is easier to understand because the 200E is positioned as a budget drive. Korean product listings identify it as using QLC NAND, and Huawei describes it as a DRAM-less design with host-memory-buffer support.
QLC NAND stores four bits per memory cell. It enables high capacities at lower costs, but it generally offers lower write endurance and less consistent sustained-write performance than TLC NAND. A dynamic SLC cache can make short bursts appear fast; after that cache is exhausted, long writes may slow substantially.

Workloads involving frequent large writes—such as video scratch files, databases, surveillance recording, or heavy content production—are better served by a higher-endurance TLC drive.

Regional pricing, promotions, supply-chain economics, and Huawei’s positioning may also have contributed. However, the available evidence does not prove that any particular sanctions-related explanation caused the price.
Is it actually a fast SSD?
On paper, yes. Manufacturer-rated sequential speeds of up to 7,000 MB/s read and 6,500 MB/s write place the 200E in the broad performance class associated with fast PCIe 4.0 drives.
Those are peak specifications, not independent benchmark results. They do not guarantee that the drive will sustain those speeds during long transfers. Everyday responsiveness also depends on random access performance, the operating system, CPU, thermals, and the workload.

Can it be used in a PS5?
Korean product listings identify the 200E as PS5-compatible, but the bare SSD does not include a heatsink. A PS5 expansion drive must meet the console’s performance, size, and thermal requirements.
Before buying, verify:
- M.2 2280 dimensions and physical clearance
- PCIe 4.0 compatibility
- Sequential-read requirements
- Heatsink compatibility and installation
- Seller warranty and return terms
A PS5 buyer should not assume that the drive can be installed without a suitable heatsink.

Can buyers outside South Korea get it?
That remains the unresolved part of the story. A South Korean listing does not establish current U.S. availability, official local support, or a regionally valid warranty. Imported marketplace listings should be checked carefully for:

- New versus used or pulled hardware
- Serial-number verification
- Warranty region
- Shipping origin
- Return and defective-drive policies
A locally sold PCIe 4.0 TLC SSD may cost more but can offer clearer warranty coverage, easier returns, and better-documented independent testing.
Should you buy the Huawei 200E?
The 200E could make sense if you need inexpensive read-heavy storage, can verify the seller, and accept QLC’s endurance and sustained-write trade-offs. It is less suitable for professional production workloads, servers, NAS systems, databases, surveillance recording, or anyone who requires dependable local after-sales support.
Most importantly, do not buy it because you believe a permanent $32 global deal exists. The reported price was regional and historical. Check the final delivered cost, warranty region, return policy, and exact model number before purchasing.
