Leaked photos published ahead of Huawei’s February 2026 launch suggested the Watch GT Runner 2 would trade some of the first model’s understated running-watch look for brighter colors and a more sculpted case. The finished watch largely confirmed that direction: it comes in Dawn Orange, Dusk Blue and Midnight Black, with a pronounced geometric bezel and two strap types. The leak got the broad design story right—but buyers should weigh the watch’s running features against regional availability and Huawei Health compatibility.
What the leaked photos showed
On February 25, 2026, a day before Huawei’s China launch, Android Headlines reported on images published by WinFuture. They appeared to show a round AMOLED display inside a bolder, more geometric outer frame, with orange and blue accents, a titanium-alloy component and a slimmer-looking profile. The straps pictured included plain black, a multicolor orange-purple-white design and a blue version.
Those were pre-launch images, not an official specification sheet. And “more stylish” is a judgment, not a measurable feature. What the photos did suggest was a more colorful, visually distinctive running watch than a conventional black-and-gray design.

The retail design follows the leak’s general direction. Huawei lists three main finishes—Dawn Orange, Dusk Blue and Midnight Black—and pairs the watch with an AirDry woven strap and a fluoroelastomer strap. Its official UK product page presents the bezel and strap as part of the watch’s design, while the Japanese announcement identifies it as the successor to the original GT Runner, launched in 2021.

Huawei Japan says the new model is about 10% lighter than its predecessor, at approximately 34.5 grams without a strap, and measures about 10.7 mm thick. TechRadar lists a titanium-alloy case and dimensions of roughly 43.5 × 43.5 × 10.7 mm. The combination of a more prominent bezel and a slim, light case makes the redesign an evolution of a sport watch, not a conversion into a dress watch.
The color accents and woven strap may make it easier to wear beyond a workout, particularly in orange or blue. They may also be less discreet with formal clothes than a plain black watch. Which look is preferable comes down to taste; the concrete change is that Huawei offers more visual personality than a typical utilitarian running-watch palette.

Running features are the bigger story
The GT Runner 2 remains focused on running rather than general-purpose smartwatch use. Its feature set includes dual-band GPS, running and training metrics, customizable plans, and a smart marathon mode intended to assist with pacing and race strategy. Huawei also promotes VO₂ max and recovery-related information, alongside more than 100 sports modes. A partnership with Eliud Kipchoge reinforces the running-first positioning, but sponsorship and feature count alone do not prove professional-level performance.
TechRadar’s independent review reported strong GPS results in its testing, including a 10.5-kilometer run compared with a Garmin Fenix 8 Pro. That is useful evidence, not a guarantee for every route or wearer. GPS readings can vary with buildings, tree cover, tunnels, weather, wrist position and software. Huawei has also made claims about outperforming a Garmin Forerunner 970, but those claims should be attributed to Huawei; TechRadar did not have that Garmin model available for a direct test.

Huawei Japan rates battery life at up to 14 days in typical use or up to 32 hours of continuous GPS use. Those are manufacturer maximum figures, not promises of everyday results. GPS frequency, health monitoring, notifications, display behavior and workout habits can all affect endurance. The GPS figure is particularly relevant to marathon and longer-distance runners, while the typical-use estimate speaks to how often a buyer may need to charge during ordinary use.

Huawei’s Japanese announcement lists heart-rate, blood-oxygen, stress, sleep and continuous HRV monitoring, as well as ECG functionality. Huawei says the health features are not intended for medical use. Its note about Japanese medical-device approval for the ECG app applies to Japan; it should not be read as approval in other countries. Availability and regulatory status can vary by market, so check the local product information if ECG access matters to you.

Availability and price depend on country
The watch is already a launched product, not a speculative leak. Huawei Japan announced availability from March 27, 2026, at a suggested retail price of ¥54,780, including tax. TechRadar lists a UK price of £349.99 and reports availability in parts of Europe and Asia. At the time of its review, it said the watch was not available in the United States or Australia. These are country-specific signals, not a guarantee of current stock or support everywhere; check Huawei’s local catalog and authorized retailers before buying.

A UK or Japanese price is not a reliable US price equivalent. An imported unit may have different warranty coverage, firmware, language support, payment options or health-feature approvals from a locally sold version. The watch is Bluetooth-connected; the available specifications do not identify cellular capability, so it should not be treated as a phone replacement.
The practical question: does Huawei Health fit your routine?
For many runners, ecosystem fit matters as much as GPS hardware. Huawei Health is central to the watch’s data and training experience. If you rely on a particular phone platform, training service or established data-sharing workflow, verify current compatibility in your country before choosing it. The available information does not establish a universal policy for third-party syncing, so do not assume that a preferred service will work exactly as it does with your current watch.
Consider the GT Runner 2 if you are in a supported market and want a lightweight, running-first watch with long stated GPS endurance, marathon tools and a more colorful design. Look elsewhere if you need official local sales and support where it is absent, cellular service, broad third-party app options, or especially seamless integration with Apple or Google services. For a purchase decision, compare running accuracy, battery, training-platform compatibility, phone ecosystem, warranty and availability—not appearance alone.
