The Huawei Router X1 Series is a China-market family of dual-band Wi‑Fi 7 routers built around internal smart antennas, multi-gigabit Ethernet and Huawei’s smart-home ecosystem. The standard Huawei Router X1 is the value-oriented model, while the X1 Pro adds four 2.5GbE ports and dedicated cross-floor mesh antennas. Both advertise an aggregate wireless rate of up to 3.6Gbps, but that is a theoretical physical-layer figure—not the speed a single device will necessarily achieve.
The X1 family is most compelling for Huawei-heavy households, Wi‑Fi 7 users, multi-gigabit broadband subscribers and buyers who prefer an unobtrusive internal-antenna design. It is less compelling if you need 6GHz Wi‑Fi, a ready-made multi-node mesh kit, or confirmed local warranty and support outside China.
Huawei Router X1 vs X1 Pro: What is the difference?
“X1 Series” refers to at least two routers rather than one single product. They share a dual-band Wi‑Fi 7 platform, but their physical design, Ethernet capacity and antenna arrangements differ.

What makes the X1 design different?
The X1 uses a tall cylindrical body instead of a conventional flat router with visible antenna rods. Its antennas are integrated into the enclosure, giving the router a cleaner appearance that is easier to place in a living room, office or open shelf.
Huawei describes the X1 as using high-gain and smart antennas to support 360-degree coverage and adaptive horizontal and vertical polarization. The company’s product material identifies an 11-antenna system. A Huawei-hosted report further describes that arrangement as five omnidirectional high-gain antennas, five directional smart antennas and one StarFlash antenna. Because that detailed breakdown comes from Huawei-hosted material rather than an independent teardown, it should be understood as a manufacturer description.
The X1 Pro follows the same design-led approach but is slightly larger and heavier, at about 899g compared with approximately 854g for the X1. Its main engineering distinction is the dedicated cross-floor antenna arrangement rather than simply a larger antenna count.
Internal antennas have a practical trade-off. They can be carefully arranged inside the chassis and remove the temptation to hide or incorrectly angle external rods, but users cannot manually reposition them. External antennas are not automatically inferior; radio design, antenna placement, transmit power, channel conditions and the client device matter at least as much as visible antenna count.
How the X1 and X1 Pro antenna systems work
Huawei Router X1
Huawei says the X1 combines high-gain and smart antennas to adapt coverage and polarization. In practical terms, the router is designed to maintain useful connections across different device orientations and locations rather than relying on a single fixed radiation pattern.
The X1 also includes a StarFlash/Bluetooth dual-mode gateway function for compatible Huawei smart devices. That may be valuable in a Huawei-centered home, but it does not mean the router is a universal controller for every Bluetooth, Matter, Zigbee or smart-home product.
Huawei Router X1 Pro
The X1 Pro’s listed antenna arrangement includes two 2.4GHz antennas and five 5GHz smart antennas. Huawei identifies three of the 5GHz antennas as omnidirectional and two as cross-floor mesh antennas. The design is intended to direct more useful coverage between adjacent floors, where a normal horizontal coverage pattern may be less effective.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Huawei claims that the cross-floor antenna system can raise adjacent-floor speeds by up to 30% compared with a traditional omnidirectional antenna design. That is a manufacturer test claim, not a universal result. Concrete slabs, metal framing, radiant barriers, plumbing, stairwell geometry, router placement, client position and local radio regulations can all change the outcome.

What Wi‑Fi 7 adds
The X1 family supports Wi‑Fi 7, or IEEE 802.11be, while remaining compatible with older Wi‑Fi generations. Huawei highlights Multi-Link Operation, 4K-QAM, Multi-RU and preamble puncturing.
Multi-Link Operation
MLO allows compatible devices to use more than one wireless link or band in a coordinated way. In suitable conditions, that can improve aggregate throughput, latency consistency and resilience when one link is busy or temporarily degraded.
MLO is not automatically faster for every device. Both the router and client need compatible Wi‑Fi 7 implementations, and vendors may implement or expose MLO differently. A Wi‑Fi 7 phone may still use one link, fall back to conventional operation or limit MLO behavior to particular power-saving modes.
4K-QAM
4K-QAM packs more data into each transmission under strong signal conditions. Huawei describes it as providing a 20% increase in data density compared with the preceding modulation level. That is an efficiency improvement under suitable conditions, not a guaranteed 20% increase in internet speed. Distance, signal quality, interference and client support are decisive.
Multi-RU
Multi-RU allows a Wi‑Fi 7 network to make more flexible use of resource units for a client. It can improve channel utilization in some traffic patterns, particularly where several clients compete for airtime, but the benefit depends on the scheduler, client support and network load.
Preamble puncturing
Preamble puncturing lets a Wi‑Fi 7 network avoid a portion of a wide channel affected by interference instead of abandoning the entire channel. It can make wide-channel operation more resilient in congested environments, but it cannot eliminate interference or compensate for a weak signal.
What “Wi‑Fi 7+” means
Huawei-hosted material says the X1 family received an OTA upgrade branded “Wi‑Fi 7+,” with features such as Lingxi Dual Wi‑Fi 2.0, dynamic narrow bandwidth and improvements aimed at long-distance performance, latency and interference resistance.

Understanding the 3.6Gbps claim
Huawei lists approximately 688Mbps at 2.4GHz and 2,882Mbps at 5GHz, for a combined theoretical rate of about 3,570Mbps. The X1 Pro is marketed with a 3.6Gbps-class aggregate rate.
This is a PHY or negotiated-rate figure. It combines wireless links and does not describe the application throughput of one phone or laptop. Real performance is limited by factors including:
- Whether the client supports Wi‑Fi 7, MLO, 4K-QAM and wide channels.
- Whether the connection uses 80MHz or 160MHz channel width.
- Signal strength and distance from the router.
- Interference from neighboring networks and household devices.
- Building materials and floor construction.
- The client’s antenna configuration and processing capability.
- Ethernet link speed between the router, server and test device.
- The internet plan and speed of the external test server.
A single Wi‑Fi 7 device will not normally achieve the combined 2.4GHz-plus-5GHz headline rate. The figure is more useful as an indication of the router’s aggregate wireless capacity across compatible clients than as a promised speed-test result.

Wired networking: where the Pro has a clear advantage
The standard X1 has two adaptive WAN/LAN ports supporting up to 2.5Gbps and two additional adaptive 10/100/1000 Ethernet ports. Huawei lists 512MB of RAM and 128MB of storage.
The X1 Pro is advertised with four 2.5GbE ports. That matters if you have multi-gigabit broadband, a multi-gigabit NAS, a desktop workstation, a wired access point or a multi-gigabit switch. It also gives you more flexibility when several high-speed wired devices must operate simultaneously.
A router does not need a 3.6GbE Ethernet port simply because its wireless aggregate rate is 3.6Gbps. Wireless aggregate rates and wired link rates are different measurements. However, a device connected through a 1GbE port cannot exceed roughly gigabit-class wired throughput, regardless of the router’s Wi‑Fi capability.
Dual-band Wi‑Fi 7 is not the same as tri-band Wi‑Fi 7
Both cited X1 models use 2.4GHz and 5GHz. They are not specified as 6GHz-capable tri-band routers.

Dual-band hardware can still be fast and useful, especially where 6GHz is unavailable or compatible devices are scarce. But buyers should not assume that the Wi‑Fi 7 label automatically means 6GHz support.
Is the X1 Pro a mesh system?
A single X1 or X1 Pro is a router, not a complete whole-home mesh kit. The X1 Pro is marketed globally as the HUAWEI WiFi Mesh X1 Pro, and Huawei promotes WiFi Mesh+ roaming, but whole-home mesh coverage requires compatible additional nodes and appropriate placement.
The distinction is important:
- Router: One unit that manages the local network and provides wireless access.
- Mesh system: Multiple coordinated access points that share network settings and support roaming.
- Repeater or extender: A simpler coverage device that may reduce throughput or add latency, particularly when it uses the same radio for backhaul and client access.
The X1 Pro’s cross-floor antennas may improve coverage from one strategically placed router, but they do not replace additional access points when a home has severe dead zones, thick floors or detached buildings.
Smart-home features and Huawei ecosystem benefits
Huawei promotes StarFlash/Bluetooth dual-mode gateway functionality, smart-home connectivity, game acceleration and HomeSec security features. These capabilities are most relevant to users already invested in compatible Huawei phones, wearables, smart appliances or other ecosystem products.
Compatibility should be checked by device model, protocol, firmware and region. The presence of Bluetooth or a Huawei-specific gateway feature does not guarantee compatibility with every Bluetooth device, Matter accessory, Apple Home setup, Google Home product, Amazon Alexa device or Zigbee hub.
For a mixed-brand household, the X1’s core networking features may still be useful, but the ecosystem premium becomes less meaningful. Buyers should evaluate the router as a Wi‑Fi and Ethernet product first, then treat smart-home integration as an additional benefit rather than a universal platform guarantee.
Who should buy the Huawei Router X1?
- Buyers who want a lower-cost entry into Huawei’s X1 platform.
- Homes where two 2.5GbE ports are enough.
- Mostly single-floor or relatively open layouts.
- Users with compatible Wi‑Fi 7 clients who want an attractive internal-antenna router.
- Huawei-device owners who can use the ecosystem features.
The X1 is the sensible choice when the Pro’s extra Ethernet ports and cross-floor antenna design solve no specific problem.
Who should buy the X1 Pro?
- Multistory-home owners who can position the router near the middle of the home and may benefit from cross-floor coverage.
- Users who need four 2.5GbE ports.
- Households with multi-gigabit broadband, a NAS or multiple high-speed wired devices.
- Buyers who prefer the more premium enclosure and intend to expand within Huawei’s mesh ecosystem.
The Pro costs more in China, so the premium makes the most sense when its ports, placement flexibility or multistory design address a real requirement—not simply because it has “Pro” in the name.

Who should skip the X1 Series?
- Households whose devices are mostly Wi‑Fi 5 or Wi‑Fi 6 and have no near-term upgrade plans.
- Users with sub-gigabit internet and no high-speed local file-transfer needs.
- Buyers who specifically need 6GHz Wi‑Fi.
- Homes that require a mature tri-band mesh system immediately.
- International buyers who cannot verify local warranty, firmware, power compatibility and regulatory approval.
- Users who need broad compatibility across several smart-home ecosystems rather than Huawei-specific integration.
Placement still matters more than the antenna marketing
Even a carefully engineered antenna system cannot defeat poor placement. Keep the router in an open, elevated location near the center of the home where possible. Avoid placing it:
- Inside a cabinet or behind a television.
- On the floor.
- Next to large metal furniture or appliances.
- Near a microwave or other significant interference source.
- At the far edge of the home when the connection must reach the opposite side.
For multistory homes, test the router near the stairwell or in a location that provides a reasonably direct path between floors. A specialized cross-floor antenna may help, but concrete and metal can still require a second mesh node or wired access point.
Availability and import risks
The official standard X1 pages identified for this family are China-market pages. Huawei also maintains an English-language X1 Pro page, but that does not by itself establish broad official U.S. retail distribution or local service support.
Before importing, verify the exact model number, seller, firmware region, setup language, Huawei AI Life app availability, account-region requirements, wireless-channel behavior, power adapter, local regulatory compatibility, warranty and return process. Also account for shipping, taxes, currency conversion and the cost of returning a defective unit internationally.
These are purchase risks rather than confirmed defects in every imported router. The important point is not to treat a China price as an official local price or assume that a feature shown on one regional product page is available on every firmware build.
Final buying decision
Choose the Huawei Router X1 if you want the lower-cost model, two 2.5GbE ports are sufficient, and your home does not present a major cross-floor coverage challenge.
Choose the X1 Pro if you need four 2.5GbE ports, live in a multistory home, or specifically value Huawei’s cross-floor antenna design and mesh ecosystem.
