Huawei’s first Mate-branded television is officially called the HUAWEI MateTV. Unveiled in China in 2025, it combines a 4K 144Hz MiniLED VA display, HarmonyOS 5.1, Huawei’s Honghu Vivid picture chip and close integration with Huawei devices. The standard model starts at ¥8,999 in China and comes in 65-, 75-, 85- and 98-inch sizes.
Huawei has not verified a U.S. launch or broad international availability in the official material reviewed for this article.
What Huawei unveiled
“Huawei Mate Smart TV” refers to the HUAWEI MateTV product family, branded in China as 华为智慧屏 MateTV. It is Huawei’s first television to carry the Mate name—not Huawei’s first television overall.

- MateTV: the standard model, available in 65, 75, 85 and 98 inches.
- MateTV Pro: a higher-end version available in 75, 85 and 98 inches.
- MateTV Max: a separate 110-inch flagship priced from ¥64,999 in China.
They share the broad MiniLED and HarmonyOS concept, but their display, audio, storage and other specifications are not identical.

Huawei MateTV launch timeline
- August 20, 2025: Huawei presented the MateTV’s headline technologies, including the Honghu Vivid picture chip and Lingxi floating-touch interaction. IT之家 reported on the technical presentation.
- August 29, 2025: Huawei announced the formal September 4 launch date.
- September 4, 2025: Huawei formally announced the product range and pricing at its “Mate XTs Ultimate Design and All-Scenario New Product Launch.”
- September 4, 2025, 16:08 China time: Full-payment presales reportedly opened.
- September 26, 2025: Sales of the standard MateTV were reported to begin in China.
The September sales report cited a temporary coupon-adjusted starting price of ¥8,199. Huawei’s current official product page lists the standard MateTV from ¥8,999, so ¥8,199 should be treated as a launch promotion rather than the permanent list price.
Standard MateTV specifications
These figures come from Huawei’s official Chinese specification page. Brightness, contrast and color figures are Huawei’s typical or laboratory-derived claims, not independent test results.

All four models have a 3840 × 2160 resolution, a claimed typical contrast ratio of 7,000:1, 128GB of internal storage, HarmonyOS 5.1 and a 36.9mm chassis thickness. Huawei also claims a 99% screen-to-body ratio.

The supplied ultra-thin wall mount is designed to position the television approximately 5mm from the wall. Huawei’s product page presents this as part of the MateTV’s near-wall design.

Huawei notes that the listed height may include the camera. The camera itself is 18.5mm high.
Key MateTV features
Honghu Vivid picture processing
The Honghu Vivid chip is Huawei’s first independent picture-processing chip, according to the company. It is intended to work separately from the main system processor for image enhancement, upscaling, detail processing, HDR presentation and color processing.
That does not establish that the MateTV produces a better picture than a Samsung, LG, Sony, TCL or Hisense television. Huawei’s claims require independent testing before making that comparison.
Flagship-phone-class processing
Huawei markets the MateTV as using processing performance closer to a flagship smartphone than a conventional low-power television chipset. Launch coverage attributed the following comparisons to Huawei:

- Nearly ten times the multi-core performance.
- More than ten times the GPU capability.
- Large-application cold starts in roughly two seconds.
These are Huawei’s comparative marketing claims, not independently measured benchmark results. Huawei also says the television can run large games locally.
HarmonyOS 5.1 and HarmonyOS AI
The television runs HarmonyOS 5.1. Huawei lists AI functions such as face or person recognition, AI-assisted content search and encyclopedia-style question answering. The platform is also designed to connect with Huawei phones, tablets and smart-home products.
In practice, these functions may depend on Chinese-market services, a Huawei account, compatible devices, language support and the installed software version. HarmonyOS 5.1 should not be confused with Android TV or Google TV.
Lingxi and StarFlash connectivity
Huawei’s Lingxi interaction system supports floating-touch interaction and multi-finger control. Launch coverage reported a claimed transmission latency as low as 8ms. StarFlash connectivity is intended to support compatible Huawei devices and accessories.

Compatibility is not universal. Huawei’s support documentation identifies supported products and software versions, so buyers should check their exact phone, tablet and accessory models.
Audio
Launch coverage reported a HUAWEI SOUND 3.2.2 audio system and a 7.1.4 “Starry Sky” sound field. Treat these as model- and configuration-dependent claims, particularly when comparing the standard MateTV with the Pro and Max models.

The Max is not simply a larger standard MateTV. Huawei describes features including a 1.2mm narrow bezel, claimed 1080p-to-4K enhancement and a patented differential-suspension woofer with bass extension down to 39Hz. See Huawei’s official MateTV Max page for the model’s positioning.

The standard MateTV uses a VA LCD panel with MiniLED backlighting, not OLED. That gives it a plausible advantage in peak brightness and HDR impact, and LCD has no OLED-specific pixel wear mechanism. The 144Hz refresh rate also makes it relevant to high-refresh-rate gaming.

OLED remains attractive for pixel-level black control and generally wider viewing-angle performance. MiniLED televisions can still show blooming around bright objects, while VA panels may lose contrast when viewed from the side. Actual black uniformity and motion performance depend on the panel, local-dimming system, software and picture mode.
Price and China availability
The official Huawei China product page lists the standard MateTV from ¥8,999. The MateTV Max page lists the 110-inch model from ¥64,999. Huawei says displayed prices are reference prices and directs buyers to the Huawei Mall for current pricing.
Do not convert ¥8,999 into a U.S. retail price. Taxes, shipping, import charges, local distribution, warranty coverage and currency movements would all affect the final cost.

Huawei has confirmed the MateTV in China, but the reviewed official evidence does not verify U.S. retail availability, a U.S. dollar price or a broad international launch. It also does not establish Google TV, Google Play, Roku, English-language firmware, international warranty coverage, FCC certification or U.S. retailer distribution.
Huawei’s global events page does not, by itself, establish an international MateTV release. International buyers should wait for country-specific confirmation rather than assume that Huawei’s global brand presence guarantees local support.
Who should consider it?
- Huawei ecosystem owners: The strongest case is for buyers with compatible Huawei phones, tablets, accessories and smart-home products.
- Bright-room or HDR buyers: MiniLED and Huawei’s claimed high peak brightness may be appealing, subject to independent testing.
- High-refresh-rate gamers: The 144Hz panel is promising, but input-lag and game-performance testing was not verified.
- Near-wall installation buyers: The thin chassis and supplied mount create a clean installation, if the wall and cable routing are suitable.
Who should be cautious?
- Buyers who require guaranteed U.S. or international warranty and service.
- Households dependent on Google TV, Google Play, Roku or region-specific streaming apps.
- OLED shoppers who prioritize pixel-level blacks and wide viewing angles.
- People without compatible Huawei devices who may not benefit from StarFlash and ecosystem features.
- Anyone importing a television without confirming firmware language, app catalog, tuner and broadcast compatibility.
Import and installation checklist
- Confirm regional software: Check interface language, streaming apps, AI language support and Huawei-account restrictions.
- Verify support: Establish whether warranty repairs, replacement remotes, stands and mount parts are available in your country.
- Check compatibility: Confirm power, tuner, broadcast standards, HDMI requirements and casting support.
- Inspect the wall: Confirm that the wall structure can support the screen and supplied mount. Huawei’s free first-installation offer applies to listed China-market MateTV installations using the included ultra-thin mount; nonstandard work requires confirmation. - Plan cables and service access: A 5mm wall gap looks clean but leaves little room for connectors, cable bends and maintenance.
- Measure delivery routes: Check doors, stairways, elevators, corners and wall space. A 98-inch set is more than 2.17m wide without its stand; the 110-inch Max demands even more careful logistics.
Verdict
The HUAWEI MateTV is an ambitious China-market premium MiniLED television built around Huawei hardware and the HarmonyOS ecosystem. Its notable differentiators are 144Hz display hardware, Huawei’s dedicated picture chip, phone-class processing claims, Huawei-device integration and a near-wall design.
For Chinese-market Huawei users, it is a serious premium large-screen option. For buyers elsewhere, the key question is not only picture quality or performance: it is whether the software, apps, warranty, service network and installation support work in their country.
