Verdict: the Huawei Mate 30 Pro is internally modular but difficult to open safely. iFixit rated it 5/10 for repairability: battery, cameras, USB-C hardware, speakers, fingerprint reader, haptic motor and wireless-charging components are separate modules, while heavily glued curved glass makes access—and especially screen repair—high risk. The phone is better described as good internal modularity with poor access and sealing serviceability.
Which Mate 30 Pro is represented?
iFixit’s teardown used the Chinese LIO-AL00 test unit. The repair database also lists global identifiers such as LIO-L09 and LIO-L29. Board markings, radio components, SIM arrangements and some layout details can differ by region, storage configuration or 4G/5G version, so the teardown should not be treated as a universal map for every Mate 30 Pro. See the model index at iFixit’s Mate 30 Pro device page.
What is inside the phone?
The phone combines a 6.53-inch, 2400 × 1176 curved OLED, Kirin 990 platform, 8 GB RAM, 256 GB storage in the teardown configuration, a 4500 mAh battery, USB-C, wireless charging, NFC and an under-display optical fingerprint reader. It was rated IP68 when new, but that protection depends on intact glass, adhesive and seals. Opening the phone means the original water resistance can no longer be assumed.
Rear camera system
- 40 MP Cine Camera
- 40 MP SuperSensing Camera with optical image stabilisation
- 8 MP telephoto camera with optical image stabilisation
- 3D depth-sensing camera
- Separate flash and camera-frame hardware
The cameras are individual modules rather than one inseparable motherboard component. That can make a single-camera replacement more economical, provided a compatible part is available and the connector, lens alignment and stabilisation hardware remain undamaged.

Front camera and depth sensing
The top assembly contains a 32 MP selfie camera and additional 3D sensing hardware for face recognition and depth functions. iFixit found a dot projector remaining on the motherboard and described the arrangement as space-intensive. Damage or misalignment can affect face unlock, depth effects, proximity sensing and display behaviour during calls. Physical modularity does not prove that every replacement requires software pairing; post-repair testing is essential.
Mainboard, memory and storage
The motherboard carries the Kirin 990, radio and power-management circuitry, and some front-sensing hardware. iFixit identified SK hynix H9HKNNNFBMAU-DRNE 8 GB LPDDR4X SDRAM and Kioxia M-CT041930U544311JPN 256 GB UFS storage, with the Kirin 990 layered beneath the memory package. These are board-level, soldered or package-integrated parts—not user-upgradeable modules. Storage failure normally calls for board-level microsoldering, data recovery or motherboard replacement.
USB-C, daughterboard and audio hardware
The USB-C port uses a Y-shaped interconnect linking the port, motherboard and accessory board. A separate daughterboard carries the SIM slot. The port assembly, daughterboard and lower loudspeaker are independently replaceable, which is preferable to a port soldered directly to the mainboard.
For calls, the phone uses a structure-borne driver that vibrates the display instead of a conventional visible earpiece opening. The lower loudspeaker is a separate module, but the display-coupled driver means a cracked, badly bonded or incorrectly replaced screen can reduce call-audio quality.
Biometrics, haptics and wireless hardware
The under-display optical reader is identified by iFixit as a Synaptics S3909 and is physically modular. Replacement still requires careful alignment and a compatible assembly; the teardown does not establish one universal calibration or pairing procedure.
An x-axis linear actuator supplies haptics. The rear internal frame carries the flash, NFC coil and wireless-charging coil, allowing those parts to be serviced separately from the motherboard.
Component-by-component repairability

|---|---|---|---|
| Battery | High in principle | Moderate to high | Rear-glass removal, cable routing and battery damage |
| Back cover | Replaceable | High | Breaking curved glass or leaving gaps in the seal |
| Display | Replaceable | High | Curved OLED, sensor, fingerprint and speaker integration |
| Rear cameras | Modular | Moderate | Connector damage, dust and part availability |
| Front/depth sensors | Modular in assembly terms | Moderate to high | Alignment and loss of biometric or depth functions |
| USB-C assembly | Modular | Moderate | Interconnect or daughterboard damage |
| Loudspeaker | Modular | Moderate | Deep disassembly and seal restoration |
| Fingerprint reader | Physically modular | Moderate to high | Alignment and compatibility |
| Haptic motor | Modular | Moderate | Extended disassembly |
| NFC/wireless coil | Modular | Low to moderate | Torn flexes or misplaced frame |
| Motherboard | Replaceable as a whole | Very high | Data loss and regional incompatibility |
| RAM/storage | Not realistically user-replaceable | Board-level | Microsoldering and package damage |

Battery replacement: accessible part, difficult entry
Pull tabs make the battery itself easier to remove once the rear cover, internal frame and relevant cables are out. They do not make the job an “easy battery swap.” A technician must first heat and separate glued rear glass, remove the frame, disconnect the battery safely, clean adhesive and install new perimeter adhesive.

Do not heat, puncture or continue using a swollen, leaking or badly deformed lithium-ion battery. Use professional service for those conditions.
Official service availability
Huawei’s regional pages show that service is market-specific. On August 18, 2026, Huawei Colombia listed Mate 30 Pro battery service with references to a 69,000 COP promotional starting price and 89,000 COP smartphone pricing; Huawei Czech Republic listed 499 CZK. Inventory, eligibility and promotion terms apply, so neither figure is a global price. Check local Huawei support rather than converting these amounts into a universal estimate: Colombia and Czech Republic.
Display replacement is the hardest major repair
The curved OLED is tough to pry from its adhesive and has little tolerance for concentrated force. iFixit notes that it can be removed without first removing the battery, but cables obstruct the work. Excess heat can damage the OLED, flexes, nearby sensors or adhesive.
A screen assembly is part of a larger system: the display-coupled speaker driver, under-display fingerprint area and crowded front 3D-sensor region all have to remain correctly positioned. A low-cost panel may differ in brightness, touch response, curvature, fingerprint compatibility or acoustic performance. New perimeter adhesive is required, and replacement adhesive does not recreate factory-certified IP68 protection.
Rear-glass replacement and sealing
The back cover is normally the first barrier to every internal repair. The safe approach is controlled heat, suction and plastic picks. Broken glass can cut hands, shed fragments into the phone, admit dust or moisture, and damage flex cables. Reusing torn or distorted adhesive leaves gaps. Wear eye protection and cut-resistant gloves, and avoid making a deep metal insertion near the battery or display.
Diagnosing USB-C and charging faults
A modular port improves repair odds, but “not charging” does not automatically mean the port is bad. Before opening the phone:
- Remove lint and debris from the receptacle.
- Try a known-good cable and charger.
- Check whether charging changes with cable orientation.
- Inspect for liquid or corrosion.
- Test wireless charging and data transfer separately.
Possible causes include the port, Y-shaped cable, daughterboard, battery, corrosion, power-management circuitry or motherboard. Investigate the separable port assembly before condemning the mainboard.

Rear camera modules can be exchanged individually, but image quality depends on authentic or compatible parts, clean optics, correct seating and functioning optical stabilisation. A loose flex, damaged connector, contaminated lens, regional mismatch or motherboard fault can all produce a failed camera app.

The front 3D system is less forgiving. Alignment or damage can disable face unlock, depth effects or proximity behaviour. A working display with failed fingerprint recognition may indicate sensor damage, connector trouble, misalignment or an incompatible display; repeat enrollment may help in some cases, but no single universal calibration procedure is established here.
Motherboard replacement and data
A replacement board can restore a phone, but it may be uneconomical and can introduce model, radio-band, account and regional compatibility problems. It also does not recover data stored on the original board. Back up before repair; if the original board is dead, treat the job as data recovery rather than a routine parts swap. Donor boards have unknown condition and may be account-locked.

DIY work is most defensible for experienced technicians replacing a coil, loudspeaker, haptic motor or accessible daughterboard with the correct model and tools. Battery work is possible but begins with high-risk glass removal. Display damage, swelling, liquid exposure, severe frame deformation, biometric faults and motherboard problems justify professional service.
Huawei’s China portals provide repair applications and spare-parts lookup, although a Mate 30 Pro-specific price was not returned by the retrieved lookup page: phone support and spare-parts prices. Service access and inventory vary by country. Generic batteries or inexpensive OLED panels should not be assumed equivalent to Huawei parts.
Final assessment
The Mate 30 Pro’s internals are more serviceable than its glued exterior suggests. Standard Phillips screws, battery pull tabs and numerous independent modules are real advantages. Yet curved glued glass, a fragile integrated display system, deep disassembly, uncertain parts supply and lost sealing confidence make it a poor beginner project. The 5/10 rating captures that tension: repair is feasible, but safe access—not the existence of replaceable modules—is the decisive limitation.
