HP Dimension with Google Beam is a real enterprise collaboration system, but the announced $24,999 price covers the hardware—not the full cost of deployment. A separate annual Beam license is required, and buyers may also need to budget for installation, support, furniture and configuration-dependent accessories. The system’s distinctive glasses-free 3D experience is designed for one-to-one conversations; ordinary group meetings use conventional 2D video. As of August 2026, Google describes Beam as launching soon and offers limited early access rather than a broadly available retail purchase.
What HP Dimension and Google Beam are
HP Dimension is the physical room system: an integrated display, cameras, audio, compute, lighting and controller intended for enterprise meeting spaces. Google Beam is the AI-powered communication platform that enables its immersive 3D experience. The technology began as Google’s Project Starline, a research effort that Google and HP moved toward commercialization.
It is not simply a 3D monitor, a free-floating hologram or a complete conferencing subscription in a box. The display and room endpoint need the Beam service, and the premium experience depends on a compatible endpoint at the other end of the call.

In broad terms, multiple cameras capture a participant from different angles. AI processes those views into a volumetric representation, which is rendered on a light-field display. Spatial audio, eye-contact correction and adaptive lighting are intended to make the remote person feel more naturally present without requiring glasses or a headset. HP’s 2026 product brief specifies a 65-inch light-field display and high-speed cameras.

There is an unresolved camera-count discrepancy in HP’s material: the product brief and launch announcement refer to six cameras, while an HP Tech Takes article says seven. Buyers should ask HP to confirm the current hardware configuration rather than rely on a single count. The reviewed product brief also confirms the display size and light-field technology but does not clearly establish an 8K specification, so that claim should not be treated as verified.
Price, license and what the hardware quote may include
HP announced a $24,999 hardware price for select enterprise customers. That is not a published all-in price. The annual Google Beam license is separate, and public Beam license pricing was not identified in the reviewed material. A Google Meet or Zoom version of the Beam license is offered; platform licensing may also be separate.

The 2026 product brief describes a configuration with a Poly TC10 touch controller and two Poly Studio A2 table microphones, but available brief text is inconsistent about whether these are included. Do not assume every quoted system includes the same accessories. Request an itemized current quote covering hardware, license term and renewal, installation, support, furniture, mount or stand, warranty and any required platform subscriptions.

What meetings it supports—and the important limit
HP describes three use patterns: immersive 3D one-to-one communication, traditional 2D group meetings, and interoperability with cloud services such as Microsoft Teams and Webex. The product brief explicitly limits 3D video to one-to-one conversations. Interoperability with another conferencing service should not be read as a promise that its users will appear in the full Beam 3D experience.
- Beam-to-Beam: the intended immersive experience, with compatible Beam equipment and service at both endpoints.
- Dimension-to-laptop or ordinary room system: a conventional 2D call; the remote participant does not gain Beam’s life-sized 3D presence.
- Group meeting: use the system’s conventional 2D or interoperable meeting mode rather than assuming multiple people can appear as full-size 3D participants.
That distinction matters to the business case. A single Dimension can still serve as an enterprise meeting endpoint, but its premium feature is most useful when an organization has other Beam-equipped rooms and recurring one-to-one conversations between them.
Published specifications and deployment requirements
HP’s March 2026 product brief lists the following specifications. These are vendor-published figures; site conditions and configuration still need confirmation.

At the published 600 W active-call figure, the system uses about 0.6 kWh for each hour of active calling. Actual operating cost depends on local electricity prices, usage, idle behavior and the room’s cooling needs. The packaged weight is also a practical deployment concern: check freight access, lifts, doorway clearance, floor loading, wall-mount capacity and installation access before scheduling delivery.
Plan for wired network access that can sustain the published bandwidth and latency requirements. Those figures are minimum product requirements, not a guarantee that a busy or poorly managed corporate network will deliver a good call. Room lighting, glare, noise, seating position and furniture geometry can also affect the experience. HP identifies a prescriptive table for the optimized setup; this is not a device to treat as a display that can be dropped onto any conference table.
Availability and enterprise administration
HP’s 2025 announcement said Dimension would be available to select customers beginning in late 2025. However, as of August 2026, Google’s Beam site still describes the service as launching soon and invites eligible enterprise partners to request limited early access. HP demonstrated collaboration products in 2026, but the reviewed sources do not establish general availability, a public order page or a published Beam subscription price. Treat procurement as sales-led and confirm eligibility, delivery timing and service terms directly with HP and Google.

The product brief names Google Workspace Admin Console and Zoom Device Management for the corresponding configurations. It does not establish the full current feature set for remote diagnostics, firmware policy, AV monitoring integration, support SLAs or update management. Buyers should have the vendors spell out administrative responsibilities and support boundaries in writing.

Dimension is most plausible for organizations with frequent, high-value one-to-one discussions where presence, trust or nonverbal communication matters: executive conversations, client relationships, specialist consultations, recruiting, design reviews or collaboration across distant offices. The case strengthens when both ends of a conversation can regularly use Beam-equipped rooms, and when avoided travel or improved interaction has measurable value.

It is a weaker fit for routine status calls, screen-sharing sessions, large group meetings, broad room rollouts or conversations mostly involving people on ordinary laptops. In those situations, a conventional enterprise room system is usually simpler to scale and less expensive. HP’s broader Poly collaboration portfolio is one conventional alternative; organizations may also consider standard Zoom Rooms, Google Meet hardware, Microsoft Teams Rooms or Cisco Webex Rooms according to their existing platform.

What the research claims do—and do not—show
HP cites Google Starline behavioral research from April 2023 reporting 28% higher memory recall, up to 39% more nonverbal behaviors displayed, and at least 14% greater focus on the meeting partner. These are vendor-reported findings from research on Starline, not a guarantee of results with every organization or proof of financial return from the final HP Dimension product.
The figures do not by themselves establish reduced travel, higher sales, faster decisions or a universal productivity increase. The reviewed source does not answer every question a buyer might ask about study size, controls, statistical significance, prototype versus final hardware, or how effects change after extended use. Treat them as a reason to pilot the experience, not as a substitute for deployment-specific evidence.
Enterprise buying checklist
- Confirm availability: Is your organization eligible to buy now, and what are the delivery and deployment dates?
- Get the full recurring cost: What is the Beam license price, renewal term and endpoint basis? Are Google Meet or Zoom licenses included?
- Specify the bill of materials: Confirm the controller, microphones, mounting option, furniture, warranty, freight, installation and support line by line.
- Validate endpoint coverage: How many Beam-equipped rooms will be available at the other ends of likely calls? What happens when the other participant has only a laptop?
- Check the room and network: Verify bandwidth, latency, wired ports, power, lighting, acoustics, floor loading and physical access at both sites.
- Review privacy and security: Ask where camera data is processed, whether reconstructed video is stored, retention and deletion controls, encryption, identity management, audit logs, recording behavior and cross-border data terms. The reviewed public material does not settle these details.
- Define the pilot: Track Beam-to-Beam usage, participant feedback, travel avoided, decision turnaround, support incidents and cost per high-value interaction. Compare results with the organization’s ordinary room system.
For most deployments, ordinary room systems remain the practical default. HP Dimension is a specialized telepresence investment: its case depends on whether the organization can use the one-to-one Beam experience often enough—and at both ends of calls—to justify hardware plus service and deployment costs.
