Polaris Dawn is no longer a live event. SpaceX launched the mission on September 10, 2024, and its crew performed a spacewalk on September 12. Watch both official replays on SpaceX’s Polaris Dawn mission page; the launch and spacewalk were separate broadcasts.
Where to watch the Polaris Dawn replays
Go to the official SpaceX Polaris Dawn page for the mission’s launch and extravehicular activity (EVA, or spacewalk) replay material. The page is the best starting point for the primary footage and mission information. SpaceX’s official account on X is another place to check for mission posts.
The launch replay and spacewalk replay cover different events. If you are looking for the historic EVA, choose the September 12 coverage rather than the September 10 launch broadcast. A media outlet such as Space.com may also have hosted a simulcast, but third-party streams can differ in availability and may include commentary or a delay. If one does not load, return to SpaceX’s mission page.

When did Polaris Dawn launch?
Polaris Dawn lifted off at 5:23 a.m. EDT (09:23 UTC) on September 10, 2024, from Launch Complex 39A at NASA’s Kennedy Space Center in Florida. Earlier coverage listed an initial target of 3:38 a.m. EDT (07:38 UTC); that was the planned target, not the actual liftoff time. The mission record confirms the later launch time.

The difference is a useful reminder about live launches: a published target is not a guarantee. Weather, technical checks and range constraints can change a countdown. SpaceX’s webcast may also begin well before liftoff, and its start time is not the launch time. For a future launch, use the official mission page and updates for the latest schedule rather than relying on an old headline or a fixed time conversion.
When was the spacewalk, and who took part?
The EVA took place on September 12, 2024, two days after launch, and was broadcast separately. Jared Isaacman, the mission commander, and Sarah Gillis, a mission specialist, moved outside the Dragon spacecraft and performed the external activity. All four crew members wore SpaceX-developed EVA suits during the operation. The full procedure, from cabin depressurization through repressurization, was expected to take about two hours; that is not the same as the time crew members spent outside the spacecraft.

What was the Polaris Dawn mission?
Polaris Dawn was the first of three planned missions in the Polaris Program, backed by Jared Isaacman and flown with SpaceX. A Falcon 9 rocket carried the Crew Dragon Resilience and a four-person crew: Isaacman, Scott “Kidd” Poteet, Sarah Gillis and Anna Menon. The mission lasted nearly five days.

Its objectives included flying in a high-altitude crewed orbit, conducting research and testing SpaceX’s EVA suits and procedures. The spacecraft reached 1,408.1 kilometers above Earth, an altitude SpaceX described as the highest Earth orbit flown since Apollo. The mission also demonstrated the first EVA from a Dragon spacecraft.

Polaris Dawn conducted the first commercial, or privately funded, spacewalk. “First civilian spacewalk” is less precise: the crew included SpaceX employees Gillis and Menon, so it should not imply that all four were unaffiliated civilians. The EVA was also notable as the first time SpaceX-developed suits were used for an EVA from Dragon.
