In the United States, no single standalone streaming service carried every 2025 playoff game. ESPN and ABC games required ESPN access through an eligible provider or service, while TNT Sports games were available through Max or a live-TV streaming provider carrying the relevant channels. In Canada, Sportsnet+ was the main direct streaming option, with CBC and TVA Sports also carrying games.
Can You Still Watch the 2025 NHL Playoffs?
Not as live events. The postseason ended in June 2025, and Florida beat Edmonton 4–2 in the Stanley Cup Final. Services may still offer full-game replays, condensed games or highlights, but availability is not guaranteed and can change by country, plan and date.
The term “NHL playoffs” includes the First Round, Second Round, Conference Finals and Stanley Cup Final. “Hockey finals” can mean either the Conference Finals or the championship series. The championship series is properly called the Stanley Cup Final.

How the 2025 NHL Playoffs Were Broadcast in the U.S.
The official NHL schedules split national coverage between ESPN-family outlets and TNT Sports outlets. Check the NHL’s viewing guide or the game-specific schedule for the authoritative listing.

The First Round schedule, Second Round schedule and Conference Finals schedule show the split clearly. Network assignments and start times can change, so do not rely on a generic service description for a particular game.
Best Ways to Stream Without Cable
If you need only ESPN or ABC games
Use an eligible ESPN subscription or a live-TV service carrying ESPN, ESPN2 and the local ABC station. ABC availability is market-specific, so enter your ZIP code before subscribing. A national sports package does not automatically include your local ABC affiliate.
If you need only TNT Sports games
Max was the relevant direct streaming route for TNT, truTV and other TNT Sports-produced games, subject to the applicable live-sports access. A live-TV provider carrying those networks was another option.

The simplest approach was a live-TV streaming service carrying ABC, ESPN, ESPN2, TNT and truTV. Confirm all five channels—and local ABC availability—in your ZIP code. ESPN-only and Max-only subscriptions each covered only part of the schedule.
If you want the lowest short-term cost
- Check the remaining games and their network assignments.
- Subscribe only to the network group required for those games.
- Check the current trial, monthly price, automatic-renewal and cancellation terms at checkout.
- Cancel after the final game if you no longer need the service.
There was no universally cheapest option: the answer depended on whether you needed one game, one network group or the entire postseason. Do not assume a free trial is available; eligibility and offers change.

Live-TV services worth comparing
Hulu + Live TV, YouTube TV and Fubo were potential broad live-TV replacements, but channel lineups, local affiliates, promotions and plan names change. Hulu’s NHL page showed a $89.99-per-month Hulu + Live TV offer with ads after a three-day trial when viewed on August 18, 2026, plus unlimited DVR and up to two simultaneous live streams; verify the current offer before purchase. YouTube TV’s official NHL page advertised ABC, ESPN and TNT coverage, while Fubo’s NHL page described ESPN activation through the Fubo account or invitation flow. These are service signals, not guarantees of the same 2025 lineup or price.
Was ESPN+ Enough?
Not necessarily. ESPN+ content was not the same thing as the live ESPN cable feed, ESPN2 or every ABC telecast. Some playoff listings included ESPN+, but other national games required live ESPN access through an authenticated provider or an eligible direct plan. Check the individual game listing rather than assuming ESPN+ included the entire postseason.
The ESPN app may also ask you to activate it with a participating TV provider. A subscription purchased directly from ESPN does not automatically unlock every network broadcast.
Was Max Enough?
No. Max covered the TNT Sports portion of the schedule, including relevant TNT and truTV games, but it did not replace ESPN, ESPN2 or ABC coverage. A Max-only viewer could miss a large part of the postseason. Branding and plan names have changed over time, so use the current Max plan-selection page rather than assuming a historical plan still exists.

How to Watch the 2025 Playoffs in Canada
Sportsnet and CBC were the principal English-language outlets, while TVA Sports provided French-language coverage. Sportsnet+ was the main direct streaming destination. Sportsnet’s NHL Game Finder says Sportsnet+ subscribers could stream every Stanley Cup Playoff game, but regional and out-of-market rules still depended on the package and location.

Use the Game Finder for a specific matchup instead of assuming every game is available under every plan. CBC access may be free over the air where the station is available, while digital access can be subject to location and platform rules. TVA Sports is the relevant French-language route for games it carried.
Sportsnet+ is Canada-only. Its pricing page indicated announced prices of C$34.99 monthly and C$269.99 annually effective September 22, 2026; those should not be treated as the price before that date, and all plans can change.
How to Watch on a TV, Phone or Computer
- Create an account with the service carrying the specific game.
- Install the official ESPN, Max, Sportsnet, or live-TV app on your Roku, Fire TV, Apple TV, Google TV, smart TV, phone or tablet.
- Sign in with the account that holds the subscription.
- Search for the NHL, the teams or the specific matchup.
- Check whether the listing says Live, Full-game replay, Condensed game or Highlights.
- Cast with AirPlay, Chromecast or the device’s native casting feature where supported.
Wording and menus vary by device and app version. If an older television does not support the app, use a supported streaming stick, game console, browser or mobile-device cast option. Check the provider’s compatibility page first.
2025 Stanley Cup Final Schedule and Results

Rights varied by territory. Start with the NHL’s official international broadcaster and streaming listings for your country. Do not assume U.S. or Canadian services work abroad.
A VPN may violate a provider’s terms and is not a reliable or authorized way to defeat regional blackouts, authentication requirements or location checks. Use the broadcaster licensed for your territory.
Troubleshooting Streaming Problems
The game is listed but unavailable
- You have ESPN+ but the game requires authenticated live ESPN access.
- You have Max but the game is on ESPN, ESPN2 or ABC.
- Your live-TV plan lacks the local ABC affiliate.
- A regional blackout applies.
- You are outside the service’s supported country.
- The app is signed into a different account.
- Your live-TV account has not been linked to ESPN or Max.
The app says “Subscribe” after you paid
- Confirm the purchase was made through the account you are using.
- Sign out and sign back in.
- Complete the provider’s activation or “link TV provider” process.
- Check Apple, Google, Amazon or Roku billing accounts for a different subscription login.
- Try the provider’s website in a browser.
- Confirm the game is included in your exact plan.
- Check whether travel has taken you outside the subscription territory.
The local ABC station is missing
Recheck availability by ZIP code. ABC access depends on the local affiliate and service agreement, even when the service advertises national sports coverage.
You found a replay instead of the live game
Check the label carefully. “Live,” “Full-game replay,” “Condensed game,” “Highlights” and “Postgame” are different products. Since the 2025 postseason has ended, current listings are more likely to show archived content than live broadcasts.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I watch the 2025 NHL Playoffs for free?
Some ABC or CBC games may have been available through free over-the-air reception where the local station was available, but free online access was not universal. Trials and promotions depend on current eligibility and should be confirmed at signup.
