To watch local weather on DIRECTV, tune to your area’s ABC, CBS, FOX, NBC, PBS, or independent station; local forecasts usually air during its newscasts rather than on a dedicated 24-hour local-weather channel. To find the right station, look up your billing ZIP Code in DIRECTV’s channel lineup. For national coverage, search the Guide for The Weather Channel and check its current channel number and package availability.
2024 reference, current-lineup caveat: A DIRECTV guide published in 2024 listed The Weather Channel on channel 362. Channel numbers, packages, and local-station availability can change, so verify your current lineup before tuning.
First, choose the kind of weather coverage you want
“Local weather channel” can mean several different things:
- Your local station’s forecast: An ABC, CBS, FOX, NBC, PBS, or independent affiliate may provide local forecasts, alerts, and regional coverage as part of its morning, midday, evening, or late-night newscasts. Some stations also have a continuous weather feed or digital subchannel, but not all do.
- The Weather Channel: A national network with broader weather forecasts, storm coverage, radar, and meteorologist analysis. It is not a substitute for information from a meteorologist covering your immediate area.
- Other national weather services: AccuWeather and FOX Weather may appear in DIRECTV’s weather options, depending on the product, package, and device.
- Over-the-air local stations: A television antenna can receive broadcast stations directly. Eligible DIRECTV satellite customers can connect an antenna through a Local Channel Connector (LCC), but those antenna-fed channels are not available in the DIRECTV app.
DIRECTV also created a temporary Severe Weather Channel and Severe Weather Mix for Hurricane Helene in September 2024. That was event-specific coverage, not a permanent channel guaranteed for every storm or market.

Find your local station by ZIP Code
- Open the DIRECTV channel lineup lookup.
- Enter the billing ZIP Code associated with your service. If asked, select the relevant county or market.
- Review the local results and note the station’s call sign, network affiliation, and channel number.
- Check that your DIRECTV product and package include the station you want.
Local lineup availability is tied to the service’s billing ZIP Code and broadcast market. Results can vary by market, package, and programming or licensing arrangements; finding one network affiliate in a market does not guarantee that every other affiliate is carried. DIRECTV says local channels are included in most Signature packages and Genre Packs, but not every Genre Pack includes them. MyFree DIRECTV does not include local channels. Check DIRECTV’s local-channel guidance for details.
Watch local weather on a DIRECTV receiver
- Press Guide on your remote.
- Find the local affiliate you identified in the ZIP Code lookup.
- Select its current newscast or use the Guide to find a later broadcast with a weather segment.
- If your receiver supports it, add the station to Favorites or record a newscast to watch later.
Do not assume the station has a separate weather channel. Many affiliates present local forecasts during scheduled news programs; others may offer a weather subchannel or additional streaming coverage. The station’s own website or app can clarify its schedule and options.

Watch The Weather Channel and other national weather options
Open the Guide and search for The Weather Channel by name. Tune to the listing shown for your service, location, and package. If it is missing, check the current lineup and package eligibility rather than relying on an old channel number.

DIRECTV’s newer weather option is a Weather Mix on channel 913 for supported DIRECTV via Internet packages and devices. DIRECTV describes a two-tile mix with AccuWeather and FOX Weather, and a three-tile mix that also includes The Weather Channel. Its published package distinctions list the two-tile version with Entertainment and the three-tile version with Choice+. Availability is not universal; check the current Weather Mix details and your lineup. These newer options should not be mistaken for a feature available in every 2024 lineup.
Watch local weather in the DIRECTV app
App access depends on your DIRECTV product, package, billing location, the station’s streaming rights, and where you are watching. DIRECTV says included local channels can be watched in its app where available. If you are traveling or the app shows the wrong local channels, location services may need to be enabled so the app can determine your location.

There is an important distinction: a local station received through an antenna and LCC is available through compatible DIRECTV equipment, not through the DIRECTV app. Connecting an antenna to an LCC does not make those over-the-air channels streamable in the app. See DIRECTV’s Local Channel Connector guide.
If a local channel is missing or the Guide is wrong
- Check the service address. Confirm the billing ZIP Code is correct in your account and repeat the channel lookup.
- Confirm market and package availability. A station may not be carried in your market or included in your package. Satellite customers may also have opted out of local channels.
- Refresh the receiver. Restart it, then check the Guide again.
- Correct the location setting if the Guide is wrong. On supported equipment, go to Home > Settings > General > System Summary and verify the ZIP Code. Then go to Location > Location Status, toggle Location Status off, restart the device with the red button on its side, and turn Location Status back on.
- For app viewing, check permissions. Enable location services if required and confirm that the channel is included for streaming.
- Consider an interruption. A temporary carriage or licensing dispute can affect a station. Check DIRECTV or the station’s own notices.
If DIRECTV does not carry the station you need, try the station’s app or website, or use an antenna if its broadcast signal reaches your home. Local availability and streaming features vary by station.

Use an antenna with DIRECTV satellite: the Local Channel Connector
The LCC is a satellite-only fallback for eligible customers with compatible Genie equipment—not a solution for DIRECTV via Internet. DIRECTV lists these compatible models:
- Genie 1: HR44 or HR54
- Genie 2: HS17
It is not available for DIRECTV via Internet, U-verse TV, or every receiver model. Check DIRECTV’s LCC eligibility and setup instructions before buying or connecting equipment.
In general, setup works as follows:
- Connect the antenna splitter to the antenna power adapter with the included mini-USB cable, then plug the adapter into an outlet.
- Connect the antenna’s coaxial cable to the LCC.
- Connect the LCC to the compatible Genie receiver with the included USB cable, then connect the LCC power adapter to power.
- Wait for the “New Over-the-Air Tuner Found” message and follow the on-screen scan instructions.
- Use the resulting over-the-air listings, which may look like 4-1 or 6-1.
Reception depends on signal strength, distance, terrain, buildings, interference, and antenna placement; DIRECTV does not guarantee that every local station will come in. Try placing the antenna near an exterior window and away from large metal objects, and rescan if needed. With compatible equipment, the LCC can provide access through the receiver and Genie Minis and support watching or recording up to two local channels simultaneously. LCC channels do not have on-demand features and are not available in the DIRECTV app.

For urgent warnings, do not depend on a TV channel alone: use official local emergency alerts and weather services as well as broadcast coverage.
